The Best Newcomer Winner at the 18th MOBO Awards on will get a special edition of the HTC One.
The UK arm of the Taiwanese brand announced that it will give an 18- carat gold plated version of the HTC One estimated to have a value of $4,416. The Music of Black Origin event will happen in Glasgow on Saturday October 19.
The gold-plated HTC One was designed in collaboration with Goldgenie that proves to have a Midas touch in turning gadgets to eye-catching bling’s. The company has bejeweled game consoles and have once encrusted iPod Nanos with Swarovski crystals for a charity event of legendary singer Elton John.
“The best artists have always been given gold discs to celebrate their success, but today most people listen to music on their phone. We wanted to celebrate that fact. The award winning HTC One is the gold standard in mobile design and innovation, so it was an obvious choice to make it even more special. We’re sure the winning MOBO artist will love their unique phone, and we will even be giving a lucky member of the general public the chance to get their hands on one soon too,” said Phil Blair HTC President for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, in a press statement.
According to HTC, the gold smartphone will function just like any other HTC One but just with a bling. The HTC One runs on a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor in tandem with 2GB of RAM. It also features a full HD 4.7-inch display, a 4MP Ultrapixel main camera, and 32GB or 64GB storage.
“MOBO turning 18 is a huge achievement and a special time for us. The 18ct Gold HTC One phone is a great addition to our coming of age celebrations and helps add ‘MOBO glitz’ to proceedings,” said Kanya King, founder of the MOBO Award, through a press statement.
The upcoming artists nominated for the Best Newcomer award at MOBO are Stylo G, Shakka, Daley, Jacob Banks, Elli Ingram, Shakka, Jahmene Douglas, Sam Smith, Fuse ODG, Krept & Konan, and Etta Bond.
There are only five gold-plated HTC Ones created by Goldgenie for HTC and a lucky winner who buys an HTC One from an O2 Store in between October 17 to 20 may have the jaw-dropping surprise of unpacking the very limited edition smartphone.
