While the authenticity of the video remains unverified and unconfirmed by Sony, experts have noted that it does not display signs of being a fake or a heavily photoshopped fabrication. The origin of the video is not clear, with a Reddit post from a relatively unknown account being referenced by some sources like Sumaho Digest.
If the leaked promotional video is indeed accurate, it indicates that Sony has taken a slimmer approach with this year’s smaller flagship, in comparison to its predecessor, the Xperia 5 IV. Specifically, the Xperia 5 V is shown to have two rear-facing cameras, one less than its previous iteration. The noticeable absence is the telephoto camera featured in the Xperia 5 IV. Instead, the Xperia 5 V will combine primary and rear-facing cameras, featuring ZEISS T* coatings to reduce reflections.
As of now, detailed specifications for these cameras have not surfaced, leaving questions about potential camera enhancements and performance tricks that Sony might have implemented. The brand has previously impressed users with its telephoto camera technology in models like the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 1 V. Despite the missing telephoto camera, the Xperia 5 V maintains Sony’s signature 21:9 aspect ratio, and retains coveted features such as a 3.5mm headphone jack and a front-facing camera without a distracting punch-hole design.
While pricing and other specifications are still unknown, the Xperia 5 V will be available in at least three color options. Based on previous years’ patterns, it is speculated that Sony will unveil the Xperia 5 V in September, likely during the IFA 2023 event in Berlin. As the release date approaches, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting official confirmation and further details from Sony, to see how this latest Xperia model stacks up against the competition.
