Google seems to be planning ahead for its tablet lineup, with rumors swirling about a potential Pixel Tablet “3” launching in 2027 with a second USB-C port. This intriguing development, unearthed from leaks surrounding the Tensor G6 chip, suggests Google might be shifting its focus towards a more productivity-oriented tablet experience. But what could this extra port be used for, and what does it mean for the future of the Pixel Tablet line?
This news comes from a recent leak revealing that the Tensor G6 chip, expected to power the 2027 Pixel Tablet, will feature a second USB-C port controller specifically designed for tablets. This controller will support USB 3.2 and DisplayPort output, even allowing for daisy-chaining to connect a second display. While Google hasn’t officially confirmed these details, it has sparked considerable speculation about the potential of the Pixel Tablet 3.
Why a Second Port? Expanding the Possibilities
The current Pixel Tablet already technically has two USB ports: the standard USB-C port for charging and data transfer, and a USB 2.0 connection hidden within the pogo pins used for the Charging Speaker Dock. However, the rumored second USB-C port on the Pixel Tablet 3 opens up a whole new realm of possibilities.
- External Display Support: The most likely use for the second port is to connect to an external monitor, transforming the tablet into a makeshift desktop computer. This aligns with hints of Google developing a desktop mode for Android, similar to Samsung’s DeX.
- Enhanced Productivity: With dual USB-C ports, users could simultaneously charge the tablet, connect to an external display, and use peripherals like a keyboard and mouse for a more laptop-like experience.
- Faster Data Transfer: USB 3.2 support on the second port would enable significantly faster data transfer speeds compared to the current USB 2.0 connection in the dock.

However, it’s important to remember that these are still just rumors. Google could ultimately decide to take a different direction with the Pixel Tablet 3. But if these leaks are accurate, it’s clear that Google is serious about making its mark in the tablet market.
