To make a song with your own voice using AI, write or prepare lyrics, record a clean sample of your singing, generate or record a vocal performance, then use a tool that can train or convert a singing voice. Finish by reviewing the converted vocal, arranging it over music, and exporting the parts you need. The steps below assume you want to hear your own vocal identity on an original song. You can use a phone or computer to record a starting vocal; specific recording requirements vary by tool, so check the vendor’s current instructions before making a long recording.
How to Make a Song With Your Own Voice

2. Write Lyrics and Set a Musical Direction
Draft a short verse and chorus before building a full song. Mark where the hook lands and note any words that need clear pronunciation. Decide on tempo, mood, and arrangement in plain language for your own reference. 3. Record a Clean Sample of Your Singing
Record your own voice in a quiet room, close enough to the microphone for a clear vocal without clipping. Sing naturally and steadily, and avoid background music, reverb, or effects in the sample when possible. A phone recording can be enough to begin, but listen back for room noise, distortion, and words that are hard to understand. Re-record unclear passages before uploading.

Follow the selected service’s recording instructions for sample length, file format, and upload method; those details are not established here for every product. 4. Generate or Record the Performance
For a generated starting vocal, enter your lyrics or provide MIDI in LyricToMelody AI and create a sung draft. For conversion, record the song yourself first, then bring the performance into Revocalize AI, Voice-Swap, or Applio according to the product’s workflow. Keep a copy of the original recording so you can compare the converted result and make another pass if the delivery feels stiff.
Give each line enough space to breathe. If a tool lets you adjust pitch, timing, or expression, change only the phrases that need it; overly uniform notes can make a vocal sound less natural. Revocalize AI lists harmonies, modulation, auto-pitch, and pitch controls. LyricToMelody AI can export MIDI, audio, and separate stems for further production.

5. Listen for Vocal Problems and Fix Them
Play the result on headphones, then on the speakers you normally use. Check the consonants at the start of each line, sustained vowels, breaths, pitch transitions, and the ends of phrases. A voice conversion can preserve the performance while changing vocal identity, so a weak original take can still produce a weak converted take. Re-record a line when the source performance is rushed or unclear rather than trying to repair everything with processing.
Listen for artifacts such as metallic tones, sudden changes in tone, or syllables that seem to detach from the beat. If you hear them, try a cleaner source take, a shorter section, or a different conversion setting if the product offers one. Available controls differ by tool, so consult its current documentation for specific repair steps.

6. Add the Vocal to the Song
Use the converted or generated vocal as the lead, then add the backing music and any harmonies you want. If you produce in a DAW, Voice-Swap provides VST/AU plug-ins for DAW workflows, while LyricToMelody AI offers MIDI, audio, and separate-stem exports. Revocalize AI lists a VST plug-in and support for Logic Pro, Ableton, and FL Studio. Confirm the current export and plug-in details with each vendor before choosing a setup.

Keep the vocal audible above the accompaniment, but do not raise it until every breath and artifact becomes distracting. Compare the balance at a low playback volume; the words should remain understandable. Save a version with the vocal and backing separate if your selected tool provides stems, so you can revise the mix later.

7. Export and Keep Your Project Files
Export a listening copy of the finished song and retain the original vocal, converted vocal, lyrics, MIDI if used, and project files. LyricToMelody AI supports exports of MIDI, audio, and separate stems. Other tools may offer different formats or project retention periods, so check the vendor’s site before relying on a cloud project as your only copy. In particular, LyricToMelody AI’s Starter projects are retained for seven days; save important work outside the service in time.
Listen to the exported file from beginning to end, not just the section you edited. Check the opening, transitions, final word, and whether the vocal is cut off at the end. If you plan to upload the track, check the receiving service’s current disclosure and upload requirements.

Altered Studio is a possible option for transforming a performance, but its listing describes voice morphing broadly and does not establish a music-specific singing workflow. Check the vendor’s site to confirm that its current features fit your song before uploading a vocal. Likewise, a speech cloning tool is not automatically a singing tool: the feature descriptions matter more than a general claim of voice cloning.
What to Check Before Uploading or Publishing
Use only your own voice sample, or get permission from the person whose voice you plan to clone or convert. Read the selected platform’s terms for its voice model, source recordings, output rights, and commercial use. The terms differ: LyricToMelody AI lists commercial rights on paid plans; Revocalize AI says commercial licensing is limited to paid plans; Voice-Swap says commercial use depends on the applicable voice license. Applio is free, but its listing says workflows depend on voice models, so check the individual model’s terms. Do not assume a tool’s subscription grants rights to someone else’s voice or to material you did not create.
If you publish on Spotify, its September 25, 2025 policy announcement said vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it. Spotify also announced an AI Persona badge on August 11, 2026 to label artist identities that may be AI-generated rather than a real person. These policies address platform transparency and impersonation; check the current rules for any service where you distribute your track.
