To remix a song, separate its vocal and instrumental parts, choose what to keep, then build a new arrangement around the parts that matter. Start by identifying the song’s tempo, key and structure; make one clear change—such as a different groove or a new section arrangement—and compare the result with the original before exporting.
Choose A Remix Workflow
Use a stem splitter when you want control over individual parts, or an audio remixer when you want it to generate an alternate arrangement from an upload. The listed tools support different parts of this process:

Remix A Song Step By Step
- Start with a source you can use. Work from an audio file you have permission to upload and remix. If the song includes someone else’s voice or performance, get the necessary consent. Before publishing or using a remix commercially, check the source song’s permissions and the platform’s terms; rights differ by tool and plan.
- Map the original before changing it. Note where the intro, verses, choruses, bridge and ending fall. Record the current tempo and key if known, or use a tool that lists tempo and key detection. These are reference points: you can keep them or deliberately change them.
- Separate only the parts you need. Split the upload into vocals, drums, bass and other instruments, or choose more detailed stems if available. Listen to each result on its own and check for bleed or artifacts, especially around vocal consonants, cymbals and sustained notes. Keep the original file so you can compare and recover anything the separation muddles.
- Pick the hook and the new direction. Decide whether the vocal hook, bass line, drum pattern or melody will anchor the remix. Make one direction specific: for example, “keep the lead vocal and chorus melody; replace the drum feel; leave space before the final chorus.” This is a creative brief, not a guarantee that a tool will follow every instruction. Check which prompt or arrangement controls the chosen product actually provides.
- Set the tempo and key intentionally. A faster or slower tempo can change the energy, but a large change may make a vocal sound unnatural if it is not time-stretched or reworked. A key change can alter the feel and vocal range. Use the tempo and key controls where offered, then listen for strained vocals, awkward transitions and parts that no longer fit together.
- Make an alternate arrangement. Generate or assemble a version with a changed section order, added instrumental space or a different backing. A concrete brief might be: “open with the chorus vocal over reduced backing, bring in the full groove for the next section, and leave a short instrumental break before the last chorus.” Treat this as an arrangement idea; confirm whether your chosen tool exposes the needed controls before relying on it.
- Balance the parts and compare. Bring the vocal forward enough to understand the words, keep the bass and kick from masking each other, and leave room for the hook. Compare the remix at a similar listening level to the original. Check the opening, transitions, chorus and ending, rather than judging only the loudest section.
- Export and check the file. Choose an available format suited to your next step; WAV is offered by several tools listed above, while Fadr Basic downloads MP3 and Moises lists several export formats. Reopen the exported file and listen through once for cut-offs, missing parts and unwanted silence. Confirm the platform’s download and licensing terms for your account before sharing.
What Makes A Remix Work
A remix needs a recognizable anchor and a clear change in how the song moves. Preserve a memorable vocal or melodic phrase if recognition matters; reshape the groove, texture or section order around it. When stems sound rough, use fewer of them and let the cleanest parts carry the arrangement. Small, deliberate changes usually make it easier to hear whether the new version has its own direction.
