Make lo-fi drum and bass with AI by generating a restrained instrumental foundation, then editing the drums, bass, texture and arrangement as separate decisions. Start with a prompt around 170 BPM, dusty breakbeats, a warm sub bass, sparse minor-key chords, tape wear and a short intro; export stems or MIDI when available and finish the balance in your preferred music software.
What Lo-Fi Drum And Bass Needs
Lo-fi drum and bass keeps the fast breakbeat motion of drum and bass while making the surface softer and less polished. Your brief should specify the musical job of each part:

- Drums: A syncopated break, ghost notes, restrained transients and a little swing.

Build The First Prompt
- Set the musical brief. Write the tempo range, breakbeat feel, bass role, harmony, texture and arrangement. Example: “Lo-fi drum and bass instrumental, 170 BPM, dusty chopped break with light swing and ghost notes, warm mono sub bass, sparse minor seventh chords, muted electric-piano motif, quiet vinyl hiss, filtered room ambience, 8-bar intro, 16-bar drop, small drum variation at the midpoint, clean 8-bar outro, no vocals.”
- Make three focused variations. Keep the tempo and structure fixed while changing one element: “more swung drums,” “simpler sub bass,” or “darker tape texture.” This makes it easier to hear which instruction helped.
- Reject crowded results. Keep a version only when the kick and sub remain intelligible, the break has space for ghost notes and the texture stays behind the rhythm.
