Sony has finally unveiled long awaited next version of PlayStation which was in conversations for a long time. Although, the company didn’t display the console itself, but it is expected to be out sometime in the holiday season of 2013. “Today marks a moment of truth and a bold step forward for PlayStation,” Andrew House, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, says. He continues with the statement, “represents a significant shift of thinking of PlayStation as merely a box or console to thinking as a leading authority on play.” Hardware The gaming console comes with a x86 CPU with eight cores, improved GPU and 8GB of GDDR5 RAM that provides nearly two teraflops of computing performance. The console uses AMD bought-chip architecture, the Jaguar which is clocked at 1.6 GHz. Peripheral and Cloud Sony has revised the PlayStation controller, the new Dual Shock 4 that looks similar to its predecessor. Besides the familiar buttons and two analog sticks, it has a touch pad on the top and a new Share button which facilitates the dissemination of recorded scenes and screenshots. Moreover, a 3D camera is built into the controller, which can detect the movements of the player. Due to the deep integration of the Gaikai cloud technology, not only you can share clips but also live streams with other users. In addition, players can watch each other while gambling and even can take over the control from a distance in order to help a friend in severe levels. As previously speculated, an optical disk is no longer mandatory, you can buy and stream games directly from the PlayStation online store. The PS 3 classics too can be streamed on the new PlayStation. Integration of PlayStation Vita Remote play will act as an important part of the PlayStation 4 ecosystem. Similar to the Wii U and Nvidia’s Project Shield, it will allow PlayStation 4 games to be played directly on the PlayStation Vita. The integration with smartphones, tablets and other current devices will also play a vital role, but Sony has kept quiet for a moment over the topic. The first games that the company announced for it’s next-gen console is Knack from Japan Studio. The list also includes Killzone: Shadow Fall, inFamous Second Son, Driveclub. Chris Metzer of Blizzard announced that Diablo III will be released for PlayStation 3 and of course PlayStation 4. Price and Availability Sony is currently keeping silence on pricing and availability of the new PlayStation 4, but probably it will hit the market at the end of the year with a rumored price ranging between $399 to $499. Sony is expected to reveal the PlayStation 4 at the E3 in June to the public with more specific information on pricing and availability.
