The much-awaited OnePlus’ upcoming flagship OnePlus 3 now has a confirmed official launch date. A Chinese smartphone manufacturer is set to release company’s next smartphone globally on June 14, 2016. This time, however, is all about an important change in plan. The company has decided not to entertain its traditional invite-only system to sell its smartphones.
An invite-only system, which OnePlus kept alive throughout all these years to sell not just one but three smartphones – OnePlus One, OnePlus 2, and OnePlus X since it debuted in April 2014 has always been in controversy.
However, with OnePlus 3, that seems to be changing as anyone who’ll visit OnePlus website will be able to purchase the device without playing any stupid games.
OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei made a post on OnePlus Forums titled “Let’s talk about invites” where he seemed positive about releasing the OnePlus 3 invite-free, right from the beginning of its sale. In addition, he also stated that the invites will no longer play a role in any OnePlus product launches.
“With the OnePlus 3, we’re officially saying goodbye to invites. It’s a big step for us as a company, our fans, and fellow tech enthusiasts. After sending out millions of invites over the past two years, it’s hard to not think back to the early days and how far we’ve come. We’re proud to have reached a point where we feel confident in making our new device available without invites from day one,” this is what Carl had to say.
The OnePlus 3 sale will take place at 12:30 PM Eastern Time. During the first two hours of its sale, the smartphone will be available to purchase exclusively via Loop VR headset. However, open sales for OnePlus 3 will start at 3:00 PM Eastern Time on OnePlus website.
The company has also launched the VR loop app to allow customers enjoy the VR shopping experience.
