The Apple iPad Pro 12.9 6th Generation has been the talk of the tech world, with many enthusiasts eager to get their hands on the latest offering from the tech giant. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive into a detailed review.
Key Highlights:
- New M2 processor for enhanced performance.
- Exclusive Apple Pencil hover feature.
- ProRes video capture capability.
- Support for WiFi 6E.
- Same mini LED display on the 12.9-inch model as its predecessor.
- Starting prices remain unchanged: $799 for the 11-inch and $1099 for the 12.9-inch model.
Performance and Features:
The new iPad Pro comes equipped with a faster M2 processor, which promises to deliver a more seamless user experience. This new chip is said to boost the CPU’s speed by up to 15% and offers a 35% faster graphics performance with its 10-core GPU compared to the M1 chip. This ensures that tasks such as web browsing, word processing, and even gaming with titles like Genshin Impact run smoothly.
Apple Pencil and Display:
One of the standout features of the new iPad Pro is the exclusive hover mode feature with the second-generation Apple Pencil. This allows users to preview actions by hovering the stylus just millimeters away from the screen. For instance, in the Notes app, users can preview color combinations before making a selection. This feature is particularly useful for artists and designers who rely heavily on the Apple Pencil for their work.
The 12.9-inch model continues to sport the mini LED display, which was introduced in the previous generation. This display offers deeper blacks, enhanced contrast, and vibrant colors, thanks to the thousands of LEDs packed into the panel.

Compatibility and Design:
In terms of design, the iPad Pro hasn’t seen any significant changes. It retains its compatibility with older accessories, which means users won’t have to invest in new cases or folio keyboards. However, while the iPad Pro remains compatible with Apple’s Magic Keyboard, there’s a feeling that the keyboard could use an update, especially when compared to the new Magic Keyboard folio available for the 10th-generation iPad.
Summary:
While the Apple iPad Pro 12.9 6th Generation boasts some impressive features, it doesn’t bring a lot of new elements to the table. For those who own an iPad Pro from 2020 or 2021, there might not be a compelling reason to upgrade. However, for newcomers or those with older models, the latest iPad Pro offers a premium tablet experience, albeit at a premium price.
