Use an AI music workspace to generate an instrumental, then shape it around a restrained drum groove, warm chords, a simple bass line and a deliberately imperfect texture. The most controllable starting point in this list is Beat Shaper, because its piano roll exposes genre, mood, energy and syncopation controls and it can export MIDI, WAV, MP3, stems and DAW projects. The other tools can generate lo-fi results from prompts, but their directory descriptions do not confirm a dedicated lo-fi mode, so check the current interface and output terms before committing to a project.
What Makes A Useful Lo-Fi Prompt
Describe the musical result rather than naming only the genre. Specify the setting, groove, instruments, arrangement and texture you want to hear.

Step-By-Step: Generate The First Draft
- Pick the output target. Decide whether you need a private sketch, an editable beat for a DAW or a finished listening track. This determines whether you need MIDI, stems, WAV or only an MP3.
- Write one focused prompt. Include “instrumental lo-fi” plus the setting, groove, chord instrument, bass character, lead density, texture and structure. Avoid stacking unrelated genres or too many lead instruments.
- Generate several variations. Keep the core prompt stable and change one variable at a time: drum swing, chord instrument, bass movement or texture. Save the prompt beside each take.
- Choose the least crowded take. For background listening, a clear loop with space usually gives you more room to add texture and less need for corrective editing.

- Export the right files. Choose MIDI when you want to replace notes, stems when you want to mix parts separately, and WAV when you need a lossless master. If a service currently restricts downloads, keep the project as a draft until its export terms meet your needs.
- Check rights before publishing. Read the plan and license that applies to the exact generation. Free or entry tiers may be personal use, non-commercial, preview-only or otherwise restricted. Use only voices, reference audio and samples you have permission to use, and follow each service’s rules for voice cloning, covers and uploaded material.

Fix Common Problems
- The beat sounds like pop: remove “anthemic,” “huge” or “festival” language and request a low-contrast arrangement with fewer layers.
- The melody is distracting: ask for a sparse repeating motif, shorter phrases and more rests.
