The free tier is suitable for learning the upload and extension workflow, but do not assume a free-plan result is cleared for commercial release. Suno’s listed limitation says the Free Plan does not include commercial rights or stem separation. If you plan to publish, monetize or license the result, read the current Suno terms for the plan that generated it.
Upload Your Song To Suno
- Open Suno and sign in. Start the audio-upload workflow in the music workspace.
- Select your prepared song file and wait for Suno to finish processing it. Stay within the eight-minute limit shown for the Free Plan when that is the plan you are using.
- Listen to the uploaded source before generating anything. Check that the vocal entrance, ending and loudness are what you expect; extending the wrong edit will carry that problem forward.
- Choose the uploaded song as the source for an extension or remix action. The exact controls can change, so follow the labels shown in your current Suno interface.
Write An Extension Prompt That Preserves Your Song
Describe what must remain stable first, then specify the new material. Treat the prompt as an arrangement brief rather than a request for a completely new song. For example:

These are prompt patterns, not guarantees. Suno may change details that are not explicitly preserved, so generate several candidates and compare the transition at the join.
Extend From The Right Musical Moment
Use the section boundary that matches the result you want. Extending from the end is usually the most direct route to a longer arrangement. Starting around a chorus can produce a repeat or a fresh passage, while a bridge boundary gives you a chance to request contrast before returning to the source material. If the continuation starts too early or repeats an unwanted phrase, move the source point and revise the instruction instead of adding more adjectives.

- State the section length in practical musical terms, such as eight or 16 bars, and describe the intended function.
- Name the elements that must stay consistent: tempo, key, groove, vocal identity, language and main instruments.
- Name the change you do want, such as a drum drop, a guitar lift or a final cadence.
- Generate alternatives and keep the version whose first downbeat aligns naturally with your uploaded ending.
Use Remixing And Section Replacement For Repairs
An extension is not the only way to finish the track. Suno also lists remixing and section replacement. Use remixing when the uploaded recording needs a broader alternate arrangement. Use section replacement when one passage is the problem, such as a weak bridge, clipped ending or lyric line that does not fit the surrounding structure. Keep a copy of the original version before replacing anything, because a replacement can alter more than the single detail you intended.
Check Vocals, Covers And Samples Before Sharing
Only upload material you have permission to process. If another person’s voice is present, obtain that person’s consent for the upload and the intended release. If the song uses a cover, sample or recognizable recording, confirm that your rights cover both the source and the Suno-generated continuation. Suno’s plan terms control whether the resulting creation can be used commercially; the Free Plan is specifically listed without commercial rights. Keep records of permissions and the plan used for the final generation.

Export And Finish The Extended Version
- Play the full result from several seconds before the join. Listen for a change in tempo, key, vocal timbre, room sound or drum timing.
- Compare the candidate with your original upload and reject versions that lose the song’s identity, even if the new section sounds attractive by itself.
- Use Suno’s editing tools for another extension or section replacement when the transition needs correction.
- Export the finished audio or stems when your plan provides that capability. Suno lists stem export as a supported feature, while its Free Plan limitation says stem separation is not included.
- Label the file with the source version, Suno plan and date. Save the original and the extended master separately.
