Overview

The platform handles inbound shipments, transfers between sites, complex outbound and B2B freight, multimodal forwarding, and shipments moved by an in-house fleet or local hauliers. That breadth makes it relevant to teams managing more than parcel dispatch, particularly when freight crosses modes or business locations.

nShift says more than 240 road, sea, and air carriers are already connected. Core includes carrier connections and standard integrations, with SAP and IFS named as ERP connections; the broader integrations list also names Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle NetSuite, and Visma. API access supports additional workflows. This gives teams several ways to connect transport operations to existing systems, though the precise fit will depend on their own workflows.

Key features

Booking and shipment control

Core includes shipment booking, labels, freight documents, inbound transport management, and templates. A web interface supports shipment registration, follow-up, and settings management. Carrier onboarding, contract management, performance scorecards, rate shopping, rate validation, and shipping automation are also included in the feature set. Together, these capabilities address carrier coordination and shipment execution, rather than replacing every specialist transport or finance tool.

Tracking and collaboration

Branded tracking pages, shipment and SMS notifications, delivery estimates, shipment tracking, and a returns portal support communication beyond the transport team. Core includes 10 users or suppliers, with self-service user management and limited access for external users. That is a defined starting point for internal and supplier collaboration; teams with broader participation should confirm how their required access fits the quote.

Optional modules and operational limits

Optional modules add freight-cost management, external-party collaboration, shipment-emissions capabilities, and Qlik Sense reporting and analytics. Invoice capture, duplicate detection, and carrier payments are also among the stated capabilities. The modular approach lets buyers scope beyond Core, but makes it important to confirm which functions are included in their quote.

Two gaps matter for transport teams: nShift TMS does not include route optimization or a freight audit module. Its analytics refreshes once daily, which may not suit teams that need more frequent reporting. Buyers whose main requirement is optimizing routes or auditing freight invoices should compare specialist options before committing.

Pricing

nShift TMS uses custom pricing based on shipment volume. The plan is priced per shipment, with a modular Core base and optional Cost, Collaborate, Emissions, and Report modules. There is no free plan. The practical advantage is that buyers can shape the scope around their operation; the trade-off is that the final cost depends on volume and selected modules, so teams should establish both before comparing quotes.

Core provides the baseline booking, documents, carrier connections, inbound management, templates, and standard integrations, with 10 users or suppliers. Buyers considering optional cost, collaboration, emissions, or reporting functions should verify their inclusion and any related commercial terms in the tailored quote.

Platforms

nShift describes TMS as cloud-native SaaS, with web access and API availability. The product is listed for web and API platforms, which suits teams that need both an operational interface and system-to-system workflows. nShift says its TMS systems are hosted in Sweden, that external Complement links are scoped to one consignment, and that the TMS handbook states GDPR obligations are met. It also says it holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and conducts external penetration tests on its cloud systems.

Customer support is available through a Help Centre web form and by phone. Teams evaluating operational coverage should confirm response times and opening hours for their needs.

Who it's for

nShift TMS is a strong fit for manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and B2B shippers managing freight across multiple carriers, sites, or transport modes. Its connected-carrier network, inbound and outbound coverage, and mix of standard integrations and API access are most useful when transport coordination must fit an established business stack.

It is a weaker fit for teams whose central need is route optimization or freight audit, or whose reporting decisions depend on intraday analytics refreshes. Those requirements are not covered by the stated TMS capabilities.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad freight coverage: inbound, inter-site, complex B2B, multimodal, and own-fleet or local-haulier flows suit shippers with varied operations.
Established carrier connectivity: more than 240 connected providers across road, sea, and air can reduce the need to coordinate every connection separately.
Stack integration options: standard ERP integrations and API access give teams routes to connect TMS workflows with existing systems.
Modular expansion: optional cost, collaboration, emissions, and reporting modules let buyers extend the Core scope as needed.

Cons

No route optimization: teams that need the system to optimize routes will need another solution.
No freight audit module: invoice auditing is not covered as a TMS module, despite other invoice-related capabilities.
Daily analytics refresh: once-daily updates may be too slow for teams relying on more current reporting.
Quote-based, modular cost: shipment-volume pricing and optional modules require buyers to establish scope before they can judge total cost.

Alternatives

For invoice-focused workflows, Lojistic +PAY offers a free plan with audit and recovery features and carrier invoice payments; fees are waived when Lojistic pays carriers by credit card, subject to qualification and terms. Consider it when those functions are the priority rather than broad freight planning.

Navix Freight Audit and Payment has custom pricing scoped to invoice volume and freight mix after an assessment, with a complimentary invoice analysis. It is a relevant comparison when freight audit is the central requirement. nVision Global Freight Audit Software is another paid freight audit and payment option, with pricing available by contacting the provider.

TRANSWARE offers a free trial and paid plans including a fully managed option with unlimited users, claims, carriers, and support. It is worth comparing for teams seeking that managed service model. Trax Technologies Freight Audit and Payment is an enterprise solution with performance-based pricing; consider it when evaluating enterprise freight audit and payment services.

Intelligent Audit offers eligible new customers a free 90-day Catalyst trial for parcel audit and spend intelligence, making it a comparison for growing shippers focused on those functions. ShipEnd starts with a $25.00 per month Starter plan that includes one user login, 25 address lookups, 10 document analyses, and 10 dispute letters; it may suit teams seeking a lower-scope paid starting point. OpenEnvoy offers a free plan with 800 tokens and a web platform, providing another option to assess for invoice-related workflows.

Verdict

Choose nShift TMS if your organization needs a modular cloud system to coordinate freight across carriers, sites, and transport modes, with ERP and API integration options. Its broad shipment coverage and connected-carrier network are the main reasons to consider it. Look elsewhere if route optimization or freight audit is essential, or if daily analytics updates are not frequent enough. Before signing, confirm the quote, module scope, shipment-volume basis, and access requirements.
