Overview

Purchasing, sales, production, warehouse, service, finance and management sit within one system. Production planning spans one-off, repetitive, project, contract and subcontracting work, giving manufacturers with mixed operating models a broader base than a tool focused on a single production pattern. The trade-off is the scope of the implementation: cost depends on users, process complexity, data migration, functions and adjustments, so buyers should establish both project boundaries and ongoing support needs early.

Abas ERP dates to 1980, and its maker is headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany. The company reports more than 4,000 implementations in over 30 countries and more than 120,000 users. Abas says the software is certified according to ISO 9001:2015 and regularly updates security protections, but does not publish details of its security strategy. That certification is useful context, but it does not replace a buyer's review of security controls and deployment requirements.

Key features

Production planning and control

Production scheduling, multi-level bills of materials, purchase planning, capacity planning and multi-site planning address linked manufacturing decisions across sites and purchasing. Demand inputs can come from both sources, while advanced planning and scheduling supports more involved production coordination. This breadth suits manufacturers whose plans must account for different production types; smaller operations with straightforward scheduling may not need the full ERP scope.

Customization and integration

Low-code customization lets customers tailor processes, and abas describes those changes as upgrade-compatible. Abas Connect provides graphical, low-code connections to software and devices, including CRM systems, machine controls and warehouse management systems. That combination can help teams adapt workflows and connect operational systems without treating every change as a bespoke development project, though buyers should confirm how their specific integrations and customizations will be handled in implementation.

The REST API offers real-time read and write access to ERP data through the core logic and company-specific customizations. DMS, Microsoft SQL and PDM connectors are also listed, including standard PDM connections to PRO.FILE and keytech PLM. For teams integrating the ERP into an existing stack, API access and named connector options are meaningful strengths; the fit still depends on the systems and workflows they need to connect.

Pricing

Abas ERP

Custom pricing. The software has a one-time cost, alongside implementation costs and an ongoing support fee. Implementation costs vary with user count, process complexity, data migration, desired functions and adjustments. This structure is aimed at organizations prepared to scope an ERP project rather than compare a simple per-seat subscription; request a breakdown that separates setup, recurring support and requested tailoring.

Platforms

Abas ERP supports Android, iOS, Linux, self-hosted deployment, web and Windows, with API access. Linux is the server operating system; Abas also offers a cloud edition on AWS infrastructure. Users can work from Windows computers and mobile devices, while the browser-based web client can be accessed from internet-connected computers or devices. The range gives teams deployment and access choices, but they should clarify which model and client configuration suit their security and operating requirements.

Who it's for

abas ERP is aimed at midmarket manufacturing companies that need production-related processes connected to purchasing, sales, inventory, service and finance. It is particularly relevant when production spans multiple models or sites and the business needs tailored processes, planning depth and integration with other systems. Its custom-priced implementation and support structure make it a poor match for buyers prioritizing a low-commitment starter tool or a fast decision based on transparent subscription tiers.

After implementation, customers can access interactive training and workshops, a user group and phone support from the Abas support team. That post-implementation support can matter for organizations adopting a broad operational system, though the ongoing support fee belongs in the total-cost discussion.

Pros and cons

Pros: Planning covers varied manufacturing models, with scheduling, multi-level BOMs, capacity, purchasing and multi-site planning that can support coordinated operations.
Pros: Low-code customization is described as upgrade-compatible, and Abas Connect plus a real-time REST API provide practical routes to adapt and integrate the system.
Pros: Linux-based, self-hosted and AWS cloud options, alongside web and mobile access, offer flexibility in deployment and client access.
Cons: Pricing combines one-time software, implementation and continuing support costs, with implementation scope affecting the final outlay; buyers need a detailed project quote before comparing value.
Cons: Abas does not publish details of its security strategy, leaving security-conscious buyers to seek and assess those specifics directly.

Alternatives

For teams comparing other manufacturing and ERP options, start with Production Planning Software, Manufacturing ERP Software, Material Requirements Planning Software, Manufacturing Accounting Software, Cost Accounting Software and ERP Software.

Epicor Kinetic is another paid option with cloud packages, platform-core choices, concurrent user licenses and industry bundles; compare it if those packaging choices suit your buying approach better.
Acumatica Field Service uses custom pricing based on applications, expected usage and resources, and deployment preferences; consider it when field-service scope is central to the selection.
SYSPRO offers solution packages with costing based on selected capabilities; it is worth comparing if package-based capability selection is a priority.
Monitor ERP System has a cloud plan at 93.00 EUR per month billed per user, with a complete ERP solution and everything included in the monthly cost; it may suit buyers who prefer a per-user monthly price.
MRPeasy offers a Starter plan at 49.00 USD per month per user, billed monthly, with annual billing offering 1 month free; compare it if a per-user starting price and a free trial better suit the evaluation.
QAD Adaptive ERP is another paid ERP option for teams weighing alternatives.
Enterpryze Production and MRP uses quote-based per-user pricing and can expand with users, modules or locations; consider it if that described scaling approach aligns with the business.
Adiasoft Production Software offers a free plan capped at two users, one branch and 100 internal-control documents per month, with no tax-valid invoicing; it is a more limited starting point for teams wanting to evaluate a no-cost option.

Verdict

Choose abas ERP if your midmarket manufacturing business needs production planning across varied workflows, connected to core operations, and values low-code tailoring with API and integration options. Its breadth and deployment choices are compelling, but custom implementation costs and the absence of public security-strategy detail make scope and security review essential before committing. Look elsewhere if you need transparent subscription pricing, a narrow tool or a lightweight rollout.
