Overview

Aithor can draft essays, literature reviews, academic writing and research from a topic prompt, with adjustable length and tone. Its research database contains more than 10 million peer-reviewed, verifiable sources, giving the writing tools a defined academic focus. That breadth is useful for source-led work, but drafts and references still need review before they are relied on.

Key features

Drafting and research

The Writer supports source-based writing and outline generation, and Pro adds chat using sources from the database. Support for 66 languages broadens its reach, although the core proposition is strongest for academic and research tasks rather than teams seeking a general content workflow.

Citations and editing

The Writer supports MLA, APA, IEEE, AMA, ACS, Chicago, Harvard and Vancouver citations. Aithor also offers a Citation Generator, AI Detector, Humanizer, Paraphraser, Grammar Checker and Topic Generator. This range puts drafting and common editing utilities together, but it does not remove the need to check whether citations and revisions suit the task.

Humanizer API

Aithor provides Humanizer and Detector APIs with documentation and customized keys for integration. Usage-based credits are charged by word count, with an estimated 133 credits per 1,000 Humanizer words and 67 per 1,000 Detector words; each request has a five-credit minimum, and unused monthly credits expire without rollover. Dedicated technical assistance and priority support may suit teams integrating these tools into content workflows. Humanizer results are uncertain: Aithor says 100% undetectability is not guaranteed and reports around 85% human-written scores in most English and Spanish tests.

Pricing

Basic

The free Basic plan includes limited content generation and AI editing, plus free Humanizer, Detector and Paraphraser tools. Free accounts also receive limited paper generation and word allowances for some tools, and may have to wait in line. It is a reasonable way to try the tools, but the queues and caps make it a poor fit for dependable, frequent use.

Pro

Pro costs 7.50 USD per month, billed twice a year. It includes unlimited content generation with auto-citations, unlimited Humanizer, Detector, Paraphraser and AI editing, chat with AI using sources from the 10M+ database, writing-style and reference-style selection, and a table-of-contents tool. The unlimited priority access is the practical upgrade for regular users; the twice-yearly billing term matters if you need a short commitment. After cancellation, subscribers retain AI-feature access until the current billing period ends.

API

API pricing is customized and usage-based. Teams should account for per-request credit consumption, the five-credit minimum and the fact that monthly credits do not roll over.

Platforms

Aithor is available on the web and through an API. The API is the relevant route for teams embedding Humanizer or Detector functionality in their own products and workflows.

Who it's for

Aithor fits students, researchers and professionals who want prompt-based academic drafting alongside citations and editing utilities. Its API may also suit SEO, content marketing, copywriting, website, newsletter and blog teams handling AI-assisted writing at scale. It is less compelling when a reader needs guaranteed detector outcomes or predictable API credit carryover.

Pros and cons

Pros: Source-based drafting backed by a database of more than 10 million peer-reviewed, verifiable sources gives academic users a focused starting point.
Pros: Eight citation styles and separate writing utilities consolidate several common tasks in one service.
Pros: Pro combines unlimited priority access with source chat and auto-citations for frequent users.
Cons: Free users face limited generation and tool allowances, as well as possible queues.
Cons: API credits expire monthly, and even small requests incur a five-credit minimum.
Cons: Humanizer cannot promise undetectability, so it is not a dependable solution for anyone requiring that outcome.

Alternatives

AI Essay Writers is a broader category to compare when choosing among essay-writing tools.

Truessay is worth considering when the main need is checking a claim against five peer-reviewed papers with DOIs: its free Citation Finder does that without writing papers, while Aithor is built for drafting as well as citations.

Kahubi offers a free plan and a free trial, and may suit readers comparing a web or browser-extension option with Aithor.

Paperpal is another freemium web and extension option with a free trial; its Prime plan is 144.00 USD per year.

Conch AI Citation Generator is a focused alternative when the task is simply creating APA, MLA or Chicago citations for websites, books or academic journals; its free tool requires no signup.

Essay offers a free plan with three essays and a Core plan at 8.00 USD per month, billed annually at 96 USD, for readers comparing essay-focused options.

EssayBot has a free Starter plan with one paper backed by real sources, an AI detection score and citations, making it a narrower comparison for a single-paper need.

EssayGenius offers a free plan with unlimited essays, one full essay draft, and Word/PDF export, for readers whose priority is its free essay workflow.

SciSpace is another freemium choice, available on web, iOS and as an extension, for readers comparing a research-oriented platform with Aithor.

Verdict

Choose Aithor if source-based academic drafting, citation options and a collection of editing tools matter more than a generous free tier. Pro is the stronger fit for regular writing because it removes generation limits and queues, while teams should assess expiring API credits against expected usage. Look elsewhere if you need guaranteed Humanizer results, rollover credits or only a standalone citation lookup.
