Overview

CloseZero is AI accounting software built around a shared ledger for startups managing multiple entities or currencies. It suits founders who want current financial reporting and controlled investor access alongside bookkeeping. The trade-off is meaningful: regional compliance coverage is uneven, and the full-ledger export is not yet available.

Key features

CloseZero categorizes transactions, matches them to documents, and reconciles them against bank statement lines for review. Receipt and supplier-invoice capture pulls out vendor, amount, date, and tax details and attaches the original file to the entry. This links routine bookkeeping to its evidence, but the workflow still depends on a person reviewing the AI's work.

A single ledger spans entities and currencies. P&L, balance sheet, cash, burn, and runway figures update as entries arrive, which is useful for teams seeking a close by month-end rather than a later reporting cycle. Stripe connects through a restricted key; Brex, Wise, Revolut, and HSBC are also shown, with CSV and PDF bank-statement imports as another route.

Investor rooms support read-only access limited by entity and period, or a point-in-time PDF pack, and access can be revoked. Accountants work in the same ledger; auditors can receive read-only seats. CloseZero supports those professionals rather than replacing them, an important distinction for teams that need formal accounting oversight.

Regional coverage is specific, not uniform: CloseZero describes US GAAP consolidation, Hong Kong audit support, and Swiss VAT and QR-bill invoicing. Germany and China capabilities are labeled beta. German DATEV export and statutory report layouts remain on the roadmap; Chinese local CAS books, domestic archiving, and Golden Tax fapiao workflows stay with the customer's accounting process. Teams needing those outputs now should not treat CloseZero as a complete local accounting system.

The pricing page offers document downloads and a read API, but not a one-click export of the whole ledger. That gap is consequential for teams that require a portable full-ledger backup or a complete migration path. The privacy policy says data is used to provide the service, not sold or used for advertising, and access is limited by user roles; the policy is still a draft awaiting finalization with counsel before launch.

Pricing

CloseZero is freemium, with no free trial. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, with no time limit or card requirement, for companies below $10,000 MRR or $100,000 raised. It includes AI bookkeeping, Stripe and bank statements, invoicing, multi-entity and multi-currency consolidation, live financial reports, investor rooms, and PDF packs. Accountants, auditors, and investors are free on every plan. The cap makes Free a useful way for qualifying early-stage teams to run the core workflow, but it is not a permanent option after they exceed either threshold.

Growth has custom pricing: its rate is not set yet, and the flat per-entity monthly price is disclosed before anything is owed. It includes Free, plus unlimited investor rooms, auditor access, intercompany handling at scale, and multi-GAAP mapping; verified metrics are among the features not yet built. Growth is aimed at teams outgrowing Free's investor-room or accounting needs, but should not be chosen on the assumption that every listed capability is live.

Scale uses custom pricing based on entities, volume, and desired support; contact CloseZero. It adds an audit firm workspace, REST API and OAuth apps, ERP-grade exports, SOC 2-backed enterprise sharing, and priority support, though some features are not yet live. It is the tier for organizations seeking deeper integrations and support, but those needing the listed exports or sharing capabilities should confirm readiness before committing. The contact address is support@closezero.com.

Platforms

CloseZero is offered on web and through an API. That combination suits teams that want a browser-based finance workflow with a programmatic access path, though the full-ledger export remains a separate limitation.

Who it's for

CloseZero is strongest for scaling startups with multiple entities or currencies that want bookkeeping, live consolidated reporting, and controlled investor sharing in one workflow. It is less suitable for teams that require a complete ledger export, mature German statutory reporting, or Chinese local accounting and tax workflows today. Its shared ledger can include accountants and read-only auditors, but it is not a substitute for those professionals.

Pros and cons

Pro: AI categorization, document matching, and reconciliation connect entries with evidence, reducing routine work while retaining a review step.
Pro: Consolidated reports update as entries arrive, giving founders a current view of cash, burn, runway, and financial position.
Pro: Investor access can be scoped or shared as a fixed PDF pack and revoked, providing more control than unrestricted ledger access.
Pro: The free plan has no time limit or card requirement below its MRR or funding thresholds, and invited professionals do not add seat fees.
Con: There is no one-click export of the entire ledger, which limits portability for migration and full-ledger backup needs.
Con: Germany and China support is incomplete or beta, with material local reporting, archiving, and tax workflows left outside CloseZero.
Con: Several Growth and Scale capabilities are not yet built or live, so tier descriptions do not guarantee immediate availability.
Con: The privacy policy remains a draft awaiting counsel's finalization, a concern for teams evaluating governance readiness.
