Overview

WebPurify has provided moderation services since 2007, serving customers from individual bloggers to Fortune 500 companies. Its combination of API access, CMS integrations, human review and hybrid deployment can fit both a small site and a larger platform. The trade-off is that capabilities and limits vary by service: text plans cap simultaneous requests, while a dedicated moderation team needs weeks of preparation.

Key features

Text filtering

The profanity filter supports 15 languages and lets teams define custom block and allow lists. That provides control over community-specific language rules; offensive intent detection, however, is reserved for custom plans. WordPress, Drupal and Joomla plugins suit sites using those CMSs, while web and mobile applications can integrate through the API.

Image, video and other moderation

Image reviews can be automated with AI, handled by human moderators or routed through a hybrid workflow. WebPurify says AI checks average about 250 milliseconds; standard human reviews typically take about two minutes, with a stated maximum of five. The image service offers 100 free photo moderations without a contract or credit card, making it a low-commitment way to assess that workflow.

WebPurify also moderates user-generated video and live streams, and supports audio and generative AI content. That range is useful for teams dealing with varied media, though dedicated human moderation teams require three to four weeks of training on customer guidelines for explicit images. WebPurify says reviewed content is not retained on its servers and customer data is not stored. It also describes background checks, keycard-secured workspaces, clean desk practices and anti-screengrab software for human moderators.

Pricing

Text plans include a 14-day free trial with full feature access and no credit card required. There is no free text plan. The monthly tiers all allow unlimited submissions, but their simultaneous-request caps and integration allowances distinguish them:

Plugins: 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly. Includes one simultaneous request, one domain or IP, no subdomains, one language, CMS plugins and email support. It is the entry point for a single CMS site, but the one-request cap and single-language allowance make it a narrow fit.
Standard: 15.00 USD per month, billed monthly. Raises the cap to two simultaneous requests and permits two subdomains, with one language, full API access, and email, phone and URL filtering. It fits teams integrating directly or needing those filters, but still limits language coverage and throughput.
Enterprise: 50.00 USD per month, billed monthly. Provides four simultaneous requests, six domains or IPs, 12 subdomains, multiple languages, regional endpoints, SSL encryption and advanced reporting. The higher allowance suits a broader deployment, though concurrency remains capped at four.
Custom Dedicated Servers or Host it Yourself: custom pricing, billed through sales. Includes unlimited simultaneous requests and submissions, unlimited domains or IPs, multiple languages, offensive intent detection and dedicated infrastructure or self-hosting. This is the option for teams needing unrestricted text concurrency or that custom detection capability.

Image pricing offers two distinct routes: WebPurify AIM is 0.00 USD per once, billed per image, for AI categories, real-time results, API access and email support; Live Moderation is 0.02 USD per once, billed per photo, for turnkey criteria, results within five minutes, API access and email support. The free image offer is capped at 100 moderations, so it is a trial rather than an ongoing free tier. Dedicated human-team setup also means this service is not an immediate fit when custom guideline training is required.

Platforms

WebPurify supports Android, iOS, web, API and self-hosted environments. CMS plugins cover WordPress, Drupal and Joomla, while API integration is described for web and mobile applications. Its hybrid deployment option and dedicated infrastructure or self-hosting plan give teams more deployment choice than a plugin-only workflow.

Who it's for

WebPurify is a strong candidate for publishers, community operators and app teams that need text filtering alongside image or video moderation, or want a choice between automated, human and hybrid image review. CMS users can start with plugins, while API customers can use higher text tiers or custom infrastructure. It is a weaker fit for teams needing more than four concurrent text requests without custom pricing, or a dedicated human team trained immediately.

Pros and cons

Pro: Text, image, video, audio, live-stream and generative AI moderation cover varied content formats under one service.
Pro: CMS plugins and API access serve both common publishing platforms and custom web or mobile applications.
Pro: The 14-day text trial and 100 free image moderations let teams evaluate separate service paths without a credit card.
Con: Monthly text licenses cap simultaneous requests at one, two or four, so higher throughput requires a custom plan.
Con: Offensive intent detection is restricted to custom plans, and dedicated human teams need three to four weeks of guideline training.
Con: The free image offer covers only 100 photo moderations and does not provide an ongoing free plan.

Alternatives

Amazon Rekognition Content Moderation is worth considering for API or web deployments that can use its free tier: it includes 60 free video analysis minutes per month for 12 months from account creation, but has no free trial.

Hive Moderation may suit teams seeking model choice, with 10+ Hive Models and $50+ in free credits after adding a payment method; selected models are pay-as-you-go.

Sightengine is an option for teams wanting a freemium API or web service: its free plan allows one request per second but excludes video processing and live streams.

Commento may fit teams focused on comment moderation, with a no-time-limit free trial requiring no credit card and covering 500 comments and one connected account.

Besedo is another option for teams evaluating a moderation service through a 14-day trial that includes 10,000 pieces of moderated content each month, unlimited users, an HTTP API, moderation, automation and analytics.

Logora is an alternative for Android, iOS, web and API deployments, with Starter and Pro plans defined by monthly page-view allowances.

TrollWall AI is an alternative for API and web deployments.

Bodyguard.ai is an alternative for API and web deployments.

Verdict

Choose WebPurify if your team needs multiple moderation formats, a choice of AI and human image review, and both CMS and API integration paths. Its main advantage is that breadth; its main drawback is that text throughput is capped on every published monthly tier, while custom human-team setup takes three to four weeks. Teams that need larger concurrency or specialized text detection should consider the custom plan, while those seeking an ongoing free option should look elsewhere.
