Overview

Activepieces combines workflow automation with AI-agent building, with cloud, self-hosted and air-gapped deployment options. It is a strong fit for teams that need branching processes and control over where automations run; its main constraint for smaller teams is that Free has one user and runs stop queuing when its credits are spent.

Key features

Flows can start from a chat description and support branching, retries, waitpoints, subflows, error handling, human approvals and inline TypeScript. This makes Activepieces better suited to processes with exceptions and approval gates than to simple, straight-through app connections. Multi-step workflows, conditional logic and webhook triggers extend that flexibility. Scheduled runs have a five-minute minimum interval, so it is not the right fit for jobs that need a shorter cadence.

The catalog includes 764 integrations, among them Gmail, Slack, OpenAI, Notion, Google Sheets, HubSpot and Salesforce. Every piece is included on every plan, including Free and self-hosted deployments; teams can choose connectors without paying more for access to them. Connected apps can also be exposed through a single Activepieces MCP server for Claude, Cursor, Windsurf and other MCP clients. Agents reference connections by name, while credentials are resolved inside the worker during each step.

Activepieces can run on its cloud, customer infrastructure or in an air-gapped environment. Its security page states SOC 2 Type 2, AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS in transit and a 2026 penetration test. The company says customer automations, runs, documents and prompts are not used to train models. Cloud runs in Frankfurt by default, with other regions available on request; self-hosted deployments let customers choose a region. For self-hosting, the recommended Docker Compose installation requires Compose v2 and at least 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, a meaningful operational commitment for teams without infrastructure capacity.

Pricing

Free costs 0.00 USD per free and is billed Free forever. It includes 1,000 credits a month, unlimited flows, one user and community support. That is enough to evaluate workflows or support a small personal setup, but it is not a shared team tier. When credits run out, additional runs wait until credits refresh the next day.

Plus is 20.00 USD per month, billed $20/mo. It raises the allowance to 10,000 credits a month and supports up to five users, with unlimited flows and overage at $0.007/credit. It is the practical step up for a small team that needs collaboration, though run volume beyond quota adds a per-credit cost. Team is 200.00 USD per month, billed $200/mo, for 50,000 credits a month, 25 users, unlimited flows and projects, and email support. It fits teams that need broader access and project separation, but costs ten times Plus before any usage beyond quota.

Ultimate has custom pricing and includes unlimited users and flows; dedicated support is listed for Ultimate. Embed has custom pricing and includes 760+ integrations. Enterprise control also has custom pricing, with SSO and SCIM, custom RBAC, audit logs and secret managers for organizations with access-control and governance requirements. Free and Plus receive community support; Team receives email support. There is no free trial, so the Free tier is the available no-cost way to assess the product.

Platforms

Activepieces supports API access, web use and self-hosting. Cloud is the lower-operations path, while customer infrastructure or an air-gapped environment better suits teams that need deployment control. Self-hosting trades that control for responsibility for the runtime and its infrastructure requirements.

Who it's for

Choose Activepieces if your team needs a broad connector catalog, workflows with approvals or error paths, and flexibility to run on your own infrastructure. It is less suitable for solo users who regularly exceed 1,000 monthly credits, teams needing more than five users at the $20 tier, or workloads that depend on scheduled runs more frequent than every five minutes.

Pros and cons

Pro: All 764 pieces are included across plans, including Free and self-hosted deployments, so connector choice does not require a higher tier.
Pro: Branching, retries, approvals and inline TypeScript support workflows that need more than basic sequential actions.
Pro: Cloud, self-hosted and air-gapped deployment options give teams meaningful control over runtime location.
Con: Free is limited to one user and 1,000 credits a month; runs wait for the next day's refresh once credits are exhausted.
Con: The five-minute minimum run interval rules out faster scheduled polling.
Con: Self-hosting requires Docker Compose v2 and at least 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM for the recommended installation.

Alternatives

Consider Camunda if its free-trial and self-managed development options better match your evaluation or deployment needs. Latenode is another freemium web and API option, with a Free plan that includes 10,000 CPU seconds a month and five active workflows. For teams evaluating testing-oriented capabilities, UiPath Test Cloud offers a Standard plan with no usage caps and a single hosting region. Flowable is worth considering when Apache 2.0-licensed Java engines matter. Tray.ai is a paid alternative with a free trial and plans organized around workspaces and insights. Processo has a free tier limited to one user and one process, which may fit a narrowly scoped start. Relevance AI offers a free plan with 100 credits per day and one user. Datify is a freemium web option with a free plan for unlimited manual use and no contact caps.

Verdict

Activepieces is the right choice for teams that need capable, approval-aware workflows, broad integrations and deployment flexibility in one platform. Its strongest reason to choose it is that connector access stays broad even on Free or self-hosted deployments. Look elsewhere if your workload exceeds the free credit ceiling without budget for paid usage, requires a faster scheduled cadence, or cannot absorb the operational demands of self-hosting.
