Overview

Adagio is a music-teaching platform that brings studio administration together with student practice tools on web, Android, and iOS. It is a strong fit for independent teachers and studios that want to manage unlimited students without a subscription; the key trade-offs are a 13+ age requirement and student-controlled sharing of practice data.

Key features

Scheduling, homework, goals, lesson notes, a class feed, and attendance tracking give teachers a place to organize instruction and keep students connected between lessons. Students can log practice sessions, notes, and to-do lists in the Practice app, with comments, a social feed, and points and levels offering ways to encourage continued participation. Teachers can track practice time, but students must opt in before practice sessions, assigned homework, goals, and notes are shared with them. That is a meaningful privacy choice, though it limits visibility for teachers who expect practice records by default.

Billing combines manual invoices with invoices generated after a completed lesson. PayPal and email reminders for overdue invoices help with collection, while automated billing and invoices are a Premium feature. The homepage also describes API connections for bringing existing tools and data into Adagio, which may help teams fit it into an existing stack. Schools and larger studios can use the Organization Plan for multiple teachers and classrooms, administrative oversight, and shared class access.

Students can find the Practice app in Apple or Google app stores by searching for Musopen. Adagio says it does not share personally identifiable information with other organizations for marketing or promotional use; its privacy policy also notes that internet transmission cannot be guaranteed completely secure. The 13-year minimum age makes Adagio unsuitable for younger students.

Pricing

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free Plan	0.00 USD per month (billed $0 USD/mo)	Unlimited students, calendar, lesson scheduler, homework, goals, class feed, billing, and a free website.
Premium plan	5.00 USD per month (billed $5 USD/mo)	All Free Plan features, automated billing and invoices, custom domain support, newsletters, practice audio, and free Musopen Pro membership.
Organization Plan	custom pricing	Multiple teachers and classrooms, administrative oversight, and shared class access.

The free plan is unusually capable for a solo teacher or studio that can handle billing manually: it includes unlimited students and core scheduling, teaching, and billing tools. Premium at 5.00 USD per month is the upgrade for teachers who want automated invoicing, a custom domain, newsletters, or practice audio. Organizations needing multiple teachers and centralized oversight should consider the Organization Plan, which uses custom pricing.

Platforms

Adagio supports web, Android, and iOS. The Practice app is distributed through the Apple and Google app stores under the search name Musopen.

Who it's for

Adagio suits independent music teachers and studios that need student records, attendance, scheduling, homework, and billing alongside practice engagement. Its unlimited-student free tier is especially relevant for growing studios that do not need paid automation. Schools and larger studios can look to the Organization Plan for multi-teacher administration. It is not a fit for organizations serving students under 13, or for teachers who require practice data without student opt-in.

Pros and cons

Pros: Unlimited students on the free plan make it practical for teachers who need core studio tools without a per-student cap.
Pros: Manual and post-lesson invoicing, PayPal, and overdue reminders cover several common billing workflows; Premium adds automation.
Pros: API connections and multi-teacher organization support address integration and larger-studio needs.
Cons: Practice data sharing requires student opt-in, so teachers cannot assume they will see student logs.
Cons: The age minimum of 13 excludes younger music students.
Cons: Automated billing and invoices are reserved for Premium, so the free tier requires more manual administration.

Alternatives

Music Lesson Scheduling Software is the category page for comparing scheduling tools. Consider LessonLoop if you want a paid option with a free trial, API and mobile support, or a defined solo-teacher plan. Clefwise is another freemium choice, with a free tier capped at three students and a paid annual plan. For a self-hosted web option, CogNote offers a free plan and describes itself as built by a working piano studio for its daily use. DuetStudio is a web-based freemium alternative with a free plan. Harness may suit smaller studios that want a free web plan capped at five students and includes attendance and family-portal tools. Nova Music has a free iOS and web plan capped at ten students. Trio is a web-based freemium option whose free plan is limited to one teacher, ten students, and excludes online payments. AMES is worth comparing if you want Android, iOS, and web access with a transaction-fee pricing model.

Verdict

Adagio is a compelling starting point for independent teachers and studios that want unlimited students, instruction tools, and billing in one free platform, with an inexpensive Premium step for automated invoices and additional studio features. Choose it when that breadth and the API connection option outweigh the student opt-in limitation and age floor; look elsewhere if you teach children under 13 or need automatic access to student practice data.
