Overview

SiteContinuity combines backup and disaster recovery in one platform, managed through a global interface and shared SLA-driven policies. Recovery can target a file, a business application, or a full data center, which gives teams a more measured option than invoking a site-wide recovery for every incident.

Continuous data protection, asynchronous replication, and instant mass restore underpin its recovery approach. A DR plan builder, automated failover and failback, and non-disruptive testing help teams define and rehearse procedures without interrupting production. The trade-off is workload specificity: the stated VM targets are VMware Standard and above, versions 6.5 and 6.7, with Cohesity NAS Views supported in the customer-managed deployment.

Key features

Recovery planning and orchestration

The plan builder and automated failover and failback are central strengths for teams that need repeatable recovery procedures rather than a collection of manual steps. Recovery options range from individual files to entire data centers, and immutable backups, immutable recovery points, application consistency, and cross-cluster restore add useful protection and recovery flexibility.

Replication, testing, and automation

Continuous data protection and asynchronous replication support site-to-site recovery, while non-disruptive DR testing allows teams to exercise plans without disrupting live workloads. The RESTful API, PowerShell integration, and Python SDK make it a plausible fit for operations teams that want recovery actions incorporated into existing automation.

Security and operations

AES-256 encryption in transit and at rest applies to both deployment options. Customer-managed site-to-site deployment also lists ML-based anomaly detection, multi-cluster single sign-on, role-based access control, and multifactor authentication. Cohesity describes unlimited scalability, non-disruptive upgrades and expansion, and data resiliency as core platform capabilities. Its support is available around the clock, with a one-hour initial response target for P1 errors; security materials include ISO certificates, SOC reports, penetration testing reports, and standard questionnaires.

Pricing

SiteContinuity is paid software with custom pricing; there is no free plan. A 30-day trial is offered, giving prospective customers a limited evaluation window before a purchase decision.

Plan	What it includes	Best fit
SiteContinuity (customer-managed)	Custom pricing; VMware Standard or above (v6.5 and 6.7), VMware VMs and Cohesity NAS Views, with physical or virtual clusters.	Organizations that want to operate recovery clusters at their primary and DR sites.
SiteContinuity DRaaS (Cohesity-managed)	Custom pricing; VMware Standard or above (v6.5 and 6.7), VMware VM workloads, and failover to the customer's Amazon EC2 account.	Teams that prefer Cohesity-managed disaster recovery and an AWS failover target.

The choice is less about a cheaper tier than who manages the recovery environment: customer-managed deployment supports Cohesity NAS Views and physical or virtual clusters, while DRaaS is centered on VMware VMs and AWS EC2 failover. Neither option has a published price, so buyers should confirm fit and cost directly with Cohesity.

Platforms

SiteContinuity is listed for API, Linux, self-hosted, web, and Windows environments. Deployment can use physical or virtual clusters at primary and DR sites, or Cohesity-managed cloud deployment with failover to the customer's AWS account. The listed workload targets are VMware Standard and above, versions 6.5 and 6.7; DRaaS targets VMware VMs, while customer-managed deployment also supports Cohesity NAS Views.

Who it's for

SiteContinuity is a strong candidate for organizations with the supported VMware estate that need planned, testable recovery across sites, granular restoration, and automated failover and failback. It particularly suits teams that value a single backup and DR management framework, need API or script-based automation, or want Cohesity to manage DR operations while recovery lands in their AWS account.

It is a weaker fit for teams whose recovery targets fall outside the stated VMware versions and Cohesity NAS Views, or those that need a published price to compare options before engaging a vendor. Teams that want to operate their own clusters should also weigh the operational commitment against the DRaaS option.

Pros and cons

Pros: Recovery spans files through full data centers, with automated failover and failback, non-disruptive testing, and continuous data protection.
Pros: The customer-managed and DRaaS approaches provide a meaningful choice between operating clusters and using Cohesity-managed recovery to AWS.
Pros: REST API, PowerShell, and Python SDK support integration into established automation, while encryption and access controls address important operational safeguards.
Cons: The stated VM target support is narrow, specifying VMware versions 6.5 and 6.7 rather than a broad set of hypervisors.
Cons: Custom pricing and the absence of a free plan make early cost comparison harder; the 30-day trial is the only stated no-cost evaluation route.
Cons: Deployment fit differs by option: Cohesity NAS Views and physical or virtual clusters are customer-managed, while DRaaS lists VMware VMs and an AWS EC2 failover target.

Alternatives

Consider Storware Backup & Recovery if a free license or a 60-day trial capped at 20 virtual environments better suits an initial evaluation; technical support is excluded from its free license.

Rubrik Security Cloud is another paid alternative, with a Foundation Edition spanning enterprise, cloud, SaaS, and unstructured-data protection.

Bacula Enterprise may suit buyers comparing annual subscription pricing based on secured endpoint count and support response time.

Verdict

Choose SiteContinuity if your recovery estate matches its VMware and Cohesity NAS targets and you want orchestrated, testable recovery with a choice of self-managed clusters or Cohesity-managed AWS failover. Its strongest reason to buy is the combination of granular recovery, failover orchestration, and deployment flexibility; look elsewhere if your workloads do not fit the stated targets or you need transparent pricing before vendor engagement.
