Overview

PhotoPad combines routine edits—cropping, rotating, resizing, retouching, color and exposure adjustments, blur and sharpening—with tools for assembling collages, mosaics, calendars, greeting cards and photo montages. That range suits household and hobby projects better than a workflow centered on one specialized output. RAW support adds room for camera-file editing, while supported formats include JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF and BMP.

Its non-destructive workflow lets users undo, reorder and revisit effects in a layers list. That is useful when tuning a series of adjustments, rather than committing to each change immediately. PhotoPad also handles wide panoramas and HDR or exposure blending, but the eight-image project limit makes it a poor fit for larger stitching jobs.

Key features

The listed AI-assisted tools cover super-resolution resizing, object removal, background removal and colorizing black-and-white photos. They broaden the editor's use beyond manual corrections, alongside the conventional blur, sharpening and exposure controls. The creative project tools make it more versatile for occasional cards and montage work, though users seeking a dedicated panorama workflow should weigh the image cap carefully.

Edited pictures can be uploaded directly to Twitter, Flickr, Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive. This gives users several routes for sharing or storing finished work without limiting the editor to local output.

Pricing

PhotoPad uses a freemium model. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and permits non-commercial use only; no signup is required. It is a sensible option for personal editing, but not for business work.

The paid options include Pro Edition Annual Plan, with no restrictions and a single-location license; Home Edition Annual Plan, for unlimited use licensed for non-business use only; and Pro Edition Quarterly Plan, with unlimited ongoing use of professional-version features and all upgrades. Pro License is also offered. These plans have custom pricing. Buyers should distinguish the Home plan's non-business restriction from the Pro options, and consider that customers who purchased more than six months ago may need to buy an upgrade to use the current version.

Platforms

PhotoPad is listed for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, Windows and as an extension. For desktop editions, the maker lists Windows 7 to 11 and macOS 10.5 or later. The broad platform range may suit mixed-device users, while desktop buyers should check that their operating system falls within those requirements.

Who it's for

PhotoPad fits home users and non-commercial creators who need everyday corrections, RAW editing and occasional creative projects in one place. It is less suited to commercial users choosing the free edition or panorama work that needs more than eight images per project. NCH offers email support; telephone and live chat support are listed for customers with Platinum support.

Pros and cons

Pros: RAW editing plus common image formats supports a broad range of photo work.
Pros: Non-destructive effects can be undone, reordered and revisited in a layers list.
Pros: Collages, calendars, greeting cards and montages extend its usefulness beyond image correction.
Cons: The free edition is non-commercial only, ruling it out for business use.
Cons: Panorama projects are capped at eight images, limiting larger stitching work.
Cons: Customers who bought more than six months ago may need a paid upgrade for the current version.

Alternatives

For panorama-specific needs, compare Panorama Stitching Software; for a broader editor shortlist, see Photo Editing Software, or consider AI Photo Editors if AI-focused editing is the priority.

Choose Hugin instead if open-source software that is free to use, modify and share is important; it supports Linux, macOS and Windows. Capture One is an alternative for readers looking for desktop RAW conversion, tethering and advanced desktop editing tools, with a free trial available. ON1 Portrait AI, ON1 Photo RAW, PanoramaStudio, Panoweaver and PTGui are further alternatives to compare. WidsMob Panorama has a one-month Windows license priced at 15.99 USD per month.

Verdict

PhotoPad is a good fit for home users who want routine corrections, RAW support and varied creative outputs in one editor, with non-destructive adjustments as a practical advantage. Look elsewhere if you need commercial use from a free plan or panorama projects larger than eight images.
