Overview

The workflow runs from story generation and character sheets to image generation and editing on a canvas. Panel-level editing, separate background and character layers, and inpainting let creators revise selected parts of a page rather than regenerate everything. That is a meaningful advantage for iterative work, though lower paid tiers cap monthly image generation and the free trial locks AI features after seven image generations.

Key features

Story and character development

Stories can start from a genre, plot, novel, document, or URL, or develop through conversation with an AI character. Characters can retain long-term memories, learn speaking styles from manga dialogue, and speak through text to speech. These features suit creators building recurring characters and longer stories; they are less central for someone who only needs occasional standalone images.

Canvas and layouts

The canvas combines panel-level editing with background and character layer separation and inpainting to remove or replace areas. Twenty standard panel templates, unlimited custom templates, and polygonal panel slicing give page makers options beyond fixed grids. This is useful for creators who want to shape page composition, though the listed export format is PDF.

Connected tools and privacy

Google Drive can provide selected reference documents for planning chat, while Google Gemini generates planning-chat responses. The NotebookLM integration requires Pro or VIP and desktop Chrome, and does not work on smartphones. Google Drive access is limited to selected text, Markdown, and PDF files; the privacy policy says those files are not stored by the company and files outside the selected folder are not accessed. Street View scouting is temporarily suspended while the maker checks compliance with Google Maps terms. The company says it takes security measures to prevent personal-information leaks, loss, or damage, and usually responds to questions, requests, and bug reports within two business days.

Pricing

The free trial costs 0.00 JPY per free, requires no card, and includes seven AI image generations, 30 chat exchanges, and one automatic story generation. AI features lock after the seven image generations are used, so this is a short evaluation rather than an ongoing free tier.

The 500.00 JPY per month Persona AI LINE integration requires a main-plan subscription; it adds smartphone conversations with AI characters and the ability to send ideas to Studio. It is an add-on, not a standalone way to use the product.

The Light plan costs 1500.00 JPY per month for 100 AI image generations per month and commercial-use rights. Standard costs 3800.00 JPY per month for 300 generations, also with commercial-use rights. Both restrict unlimited generation through a personal API key, making them better suited to creators whose output fits within the monthly quota.

Pro costs 9800.00 JPY per month and includes 700 monthly image generations, commercial-use rights, support for 11 languages, a VR 3D studio, and a plugin system. After the quota, users can generate without limit using their own API key. That makes Pro the practical choice for higher-volume work or users who need its additional tools; those needing only a modest quota may find its price difficult to justify. The monthly plans are priced in JPY.

Platforms

AI Manga Studio runs on the web and as an extension. The NotebookLM integration is narrower: it requires desktop Chrome and is unavailable on smartphones.

Who it's for

Choose AI Manga Studio if your manga workflow needs story development, recurring character tools, and detailed panel editing alongside image generation. It is a weaker fit for high-volume creators unwilling to use their own API key, or for mobile-first teams that depend on NotebookLM integration.

Pros and cons

Pros: Story tools accept genres, plots, novels, documents, or URLs, and AI characters can retain memories and learn dialogue styles, supporting continuing stories.
Pros: Layer separation, inpainting, and flexible panel layouts support targeted revisions and page composition.
Pros: Paid plans include commercial-use rights, and Pro allows unlimited generation after its quota through a personal API key.
Cons: The free trial locks AI features after seven image generations, limiting continued evaluation.
Cons: Light and Standard do not allow unlimited generation through a personal API key, which can constrain production beyond their monthly caps.
Cons: NotebookLM integration is limited to Pro/VIP and desktop Chrome; Street View scouting is suspended.

Verdict

Its connected planning tools and flexible canvas are the main reasons to choose it; look elsewhere if you need generous included generation without API-key use, or smartphone access to NotebookLM.
