Overview

Trinka combines grammar and language enhancement with paraphrasing, consistency checks, AI-assisted writing, citation tools, plagiarism checks and a journal finder. That breadth can keep several academic-writing tasks in one workflow; teams seeking a broad-purpose writing environment may find its focus too specialized.

Trinka Cloud checks English and Spanish with automatic language detection. Users can upload an MS Word document for automated proofreading and download the edited file. The browser extension supports writing in Google Docs, Authorea, Evernote and Medium. Trinka is powered by Enago and belongs to Crimson Interactive Group, whose About page says it was founded in 2005.

Key features

Writing assistance

Grammar checks, style suggestions, tone detection and consistency checks address different kinds of revision, while paraphrasing and AI writing requests add options for reworking text. This is useful for formal documents that need both correctness and consistency; the stated language coverage is only English and Spanish.

Document and research workflow

MS Word upload-and-download proofreading provides a document-centered alternative to checking text only inside a browser editor. Citation and plagiarism tools, plus a journal finder, extend the offering for academic work. The value depends on usage: file, AI request, credit and page allowances vary by plan.

Security and institutional fit

Trinka says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and is not sold, monetized or shared with third parties. Its Trust Center says Confidential Data Plan content is deleted immediately after processing and paid-plan data is not used to train AI models. It also states that Trinka is SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001:2022 certified and compliant with HIPAA, FERPA and GDPR. Institution plans include LMS and SSO integrations for Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard and D2L. These controls and integrations make it more relevant to regulated or institution-managed workflows than to casual personal writing.

Pricing

Trinka is freemium, with a free plan and paid plans from $20/mo. There is no free trial. The Basic plan does not expire, but it has monthly usage limits measured by month from registration, so it is best treated as a capped way to try the workflow rather than an unlimited writing service.

Plan	Price	Included usage
Basic	Price not listed	5,000 words, 5 AI writing requests, 4 credits and 1 free plagiarism score
Premium	20.00 USD per month, billed monthly	Up to 120 proofread files/year, 25 AI writing requests/month, 10 credits/month and 2 free plagiarism scores/month
Premium Plus	Custom pricing	Up to 240 proofread files/year, 1,000 AI writing requests/month, 20 credits/month and 240 pages/year
Confidential Data	300.00 USD per year, annual billing	Up to 600 proofread files/year, 1,000 pages/year, 3,000 AI writing requests/month and 600 citations/year

Premium is the published entry point for regular individual use, but 25 monthly AI requests and 120 annual proofread files impose clear ceilings. Premium Plus raises those allowances substantially, although its price is custom. Confidential Data is aimed at teams of five or more handling sensitive, regulated or proprietary content; its annual price and immediate post-processing deletion make it a distinct option for that need, not simply a higher-volume personal plan. Platforms

Trinka supports API, browser extension, macOS, self-hosted, web and Windows platforms. The extension works with Google Docs, Authorea, Evernote and Medium, while the desktop app broadens access beyond the browser. This range may help teams fit Trinka around existing tools, though the available language coverage remains limited to two.

Who it's for

Researchers, technical writers and institutions are the clearest audience: they can draw on document proofreading, citation and plagiarism tools, journal discovery, and LMS and SSO integrations. Individual writers with light needs can start on Basic, but should account for its word and request caps. Teams that require support for languages beyond English and Spanish, or do not need academic-document tools, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros

Academic workflow breadth: proofreading, citations, plagiarism checks and journal finding sit alongside writing checks.
Multiple ways to fit a stack: API, browser extension, desktop, web and self-hosted platforms cover varied deployment needs.
Institution and privacy provisions: LMS/SSO integrations and stated compliance credentials address concerns relevant to schools and regulated teams.

Cons

Two-language coverage: English and Spanish support rules out teams that need broader language checking.
Usage ceilings: even Premium limits AI requests and annual proofread files, while Basic also caps words and credits.
Unclear upgrade cost: Premium Plus has custom pricing, making its expanded quotas harder to weigh against Premium.
No trial: buyers cannot use a free trial to evaluate paid-tier allowances before committing.

Alternatives

For a broader set of options, compare Grammar checkers, Writing Style Checkers, AI writing assistants and Paraphrasing Tools. Readers evaluating detection products can also browse AI Detection Software and AI Content Detection Software.

DeepL Translator is a freemium API and extension option; choose it when translation is the priority, with its free version capped at 50,000 characters per user per month and one file translation per month.
Revise is a freemium API, self-hosted and web option for readers who want those deployment choices in a writing alternative.
Sapling offers a free tier and trial across API, extension, self-hosted, web and Windows; choose it when its listed AI-detector checks and snippets are the closer fit.
StyleMCP has a free tier with 5,000 monthly requests and API endpoints; it may suit users seeking rule-based rewrites and an API-focused workflow.
Lingofy is a paid option across API, extension, macOS, web and Windows, with annual subscriptions for language-specific dictionaries; consider it for that dictionary use case.
Markup AI is a paid, API-capable option with a Starter plan that includes 12 million words checked a year and unlimited users; it may fit teams prioritizing a high stated annual word allowance.
StyleGuard is a paid alternative with a free trial across API, extension, macOS, web and Windows.
Readable is a paid API and web option with a ContentPro plan for one user; consider it when that plan's content-focused fit is preferable.

Verdict

Trinka is best for researchers, technical writers and institutions that want language checks attached to document and academic tools. Its strongest reason to choose it is that combination, reinforced by broad platform support and institution integrations. Look elsewhere if you need more than English and Spanish, higher usage without custom pricing, or a general-purpose writing assistant rather than an academic-focused workflow.
