Overview

OpenCharts is an AI workspace spanning diagrams, presentations, notes, code, video, and agent workflows. It suits teams that want these surfaces alongside integrations and an API; its broad scope is compelling, but the plan differences make it important to match project and collaboration needs to the right tier.

Key features

Theo turns plain-language requests into flowcharts, whiteboards, notes, presentations, podcasts, videos, code, and images. That breadth makes OpenCharts more than a slide or diagram generator, though teams focused on a single format may not need the wider workspace.

Flowcharts combine terminal, process, decision, and data nodes on an infinite canvas, with automatic layout and export tools. The presentation editor adds editable slides, speaker notes, transitions, AI generation, rehearsal coaching, web publishing, and PPTX export, supporting work from drafting through delivery.

Theo Agents can start on schedules, webhooks, monitor triggers, or manual requests. They support external connectors, human approval gates, and generated deliverables, which gives teams options for keeping people involved in automated workflows. Connectors include Stripe, HubSpot, Slack, Google Sheets, Discord, Airtable, Calendly, Apollo, Typeform, Monday, Gmail, Notion, GitHub, and Linear, among others.

For developers, the REST API manages flowcharts, whiteboards, notes, presentations, sheets, boards, personas, and agents. Theo MCP offers 113 tools, five readable resources, a hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint, and a limit of 120 requests per minute per key. API access is included with Pro, so that tier is the clearest fit for teams building integrations against OpenCharts.

Every account gets 10 GB of Drive storage at no cost. The desktop app provides two-way Drive sync on macOS 13 or later and Windows 10 or later. OpenCharts states that it protects data with TLS 1.2+ in transit, AES-256 at rest, SSO/SAML, role-based access controls, row-level security, and two-factor authentication. It also says customer data is not used to train or fine-tune AI models, and that its data handling is GDPR-aligned while it works toward SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification.

Pricing

OpenCharts is freemium, with paid plans from $9.99/mo. Free Forever costs 0.00 USD per free and includes 500K AI credits, one of each project type, one Code Canvas project, 10 GB of Drive storage, and all export formats. It is a useful way to try the workspace, but the one-project-per-type cap constrains ongoing work.

Starter costs 9.99 USD per month, billed monthly. It raises the allowance to 1M AI credits, 10 flowcharts, three to five of each other surface, and 25 GB of storage; it also includes five Theo Agents plus Theo Claw workers, custom-domain publishing, and PNG and JSON export. The project caps and narrower export formats make it a modest step up rather than an unlimited workspace.

Pro costs 24.99 USD per month, billed monthly. It includes 5M AI credits, unlimited projects, 100 GB of storage, Theo Personas, Director Mode, custom domains, no branding, every export format, and API access. This is the natural choice for individual users or teams that need the broadest project and export capacity, especially API access.

Teams costs 14.99 USD per month per user, with a minimum of three users and monthly billing. It provides 2M AI credits per user, unlimited projects, 100 GB of shared storage, real-time collaboration, team chat, an organization workspace, an admin dashboard, Theo Personas, and Director Mode. The minimum commitment makes it a team purchase, not the cheaper route for a solo user; storage is shared rather than per seat.

Platforms

OpenCharts supports web, Windows, macOS, and a Chrome extension, as well as API access. The desktop app's two-way Drive sync requires macOS 13 or later or Windows 10 or later.

Who it's for

OpenCharts is best suited to builders and teams who want diagrams, presentations, and agent workflows in one workspace, particularly when they expect to use connectors or automate work through the API and MCP server. TheoVex describes it as built first for healthcare, insurance, and other highly regulated industries; its stated security controls and data-use position may matter to those buyers, while certification work remains in progress.

It is less suited to someone who only needs a small number of slides or flowcharts and does not need the other surfaces. Starter still has project caps, while the unlimited-project tiers cost more or require at least three seats.

Pros and cons

Pro: Theo spans many creation formats, so teams can use one workspace for diagrams, presentations, notes, code, and media.
Pro: Agents combine multiple trigger types, connectors, and human approval gates, making automation more adaptable than a manual-only workflow.
Pro: The API covers a broad set of workspace objects, and MCP adds 113 tools with a defined per-key request limit.
Con: Free Forever permits only one project of each type and one Code Canvas project, which limits sustained use across multiple efforts.
Con: Starter caps flowcharts at 10 and other surfaces at three to five each, and limits exports to PNG and JSON.
Con: Teams requires at least three users, while its 100 GB of storage is shared, which can be a poor fit for a small group needing individual storage or a solo buyer.

Alternatives

For a presentation-focused shortlist, compare AI Presentation Makers, Presentation software, and AI Presentation Software. For diagram-first work, see AI Diagram Generators.

Choose Chronicle when presentation work is the priority: its free plan supports up to 10 decks, professional-grade editing, web publishing, PDF and social exports, and three guest editors.

Beautiful.ai may suit a buyer seeking smart slide layouts in a paid presentation tool. Its Pro plan costs 12.00 USD per month billed annually for one member, unlimited AI content generation, and more than 300 layouts; it has a free trial but no free plan.

Brightdeck is another freemium presentation option: its free plan includes 400 one-time credits, up to 10 slides per deck, PPTX and PDF export, and Brightdeck branding.

Gamma is worth comparing for prompt-based decks with a free allowance of 10 cards per prompt; its paid tiers list higher card limits.

ChatSlide may fit a web-based workflow where a free allowance of 100 credits and PDF export are sufficient. Its Plus plan costs 8.25 USD per month billed monthly and includes 500 credits per month.

Pitch is an option for teams that value a free plan with five members, two external guests, and 10 GB of total storage. Its free plan is priced at 0.00 EUR per free.

Presentations.AI offers a free Starter plan with 100 credits and 20 slides, making it a focused alternative for users who want a defined slide allowance.

Genspark AI Slides gives free users 100 credits per day and 1 GB of AI Drive storage, an alternative for those whose priority is a daily credit allowance and associated storage.

Verdict

Choose OpenCharts if your team wants an AI workspace that connects content creation to agents, integrations, and developer surfaces, and you can identify a plan whose project limits or seat minimum fit your use. Its strongest case is breadth tied to actionable automation and API access; look elsewhere if you need only presentation software or cannot accommodate Starter's caps, Pro's price, or Teams' three-user minimum.
