Overview

The open-source Evidently framework, licensed under Apache 2.0, provides a Python library with more than 100 evaluation metrics. The wider platform adds tracing, storage for application data and evaluation runs, test-dataset management, and dashboards. That combination covers development checks and ongoing observation, rather than focusing only on tracing or only on model evaluation.

Automated evaluations measure output quality, safety, and reliability, and can run in pipelines with visual reports. For deployed systems, a live dashboard tracks evaluation results and quality checks to help catch drift, regressions, and emerging risks. Predictive ML workflows also include metrics for model performance, data drift, and data quality, giving Evidently a role beyond LLM applications.

Teams can create realistic, edge-case, or adversarial inputs tailored to a use case. Red-team testing targets jailbreaks, prompt injections, data leaks, harmful content, and prompt leakage. Evidently supports LLM and agent tracing, LLM evaluations, and prompt management; Evidently Cloud can send monitoring alerts to Slack, Discord, and email.

Key features

Evaluation, testing, and monitoring

Running evaluations in pipelines makes it possible to treat output checks as part of development, while visual reports and the live dashboard give teams a way to review results over time. This is useful for teams responsible for both releases and production quality. Synthetic inputs and adversarial testing broaden checks beyond routine examples, though the listed capabilities do not establish a particular evaluation workflow or coverage level for any one application.

Platform and support

Tracing, dataset management, storage, and dashboards bring several parts of an AI quality workflow into one platform. The open-source framework can be run locally, while deployment options also include hosted use. Community support for the open-source offering comes through Discord and documentation; Pro adds email support, and Enterprise adds premium support. Evidently says it takes reasonable steps to secure personal data and transfers it only where adequate controls are in place.

Pricing

The free options separate local framework use from hosted project limits. Open-source is free and includes core AI evaluation and testing, 100+ metrics, local self-hosted dashboards, API/CLI access, and Discord/docs support. It is the natural starting point for teams comfortable operating locally and relying on community support.

Developer is also free, with 10,000 rows/month, 1GB snapshots, 3 projects, 2 seats, and community support. Those caps make it a bounded hosted option for a small team or an initial workload, but teams with several users or growing data should account for the project, seat, and storage limits.

Pro costs 80.00 USD per month (billed Monthly Billing) and includes 100,000 rows/month, 100GB snapshots, 10 projects, 5 seats, and email support. Additional usage costs $10 per 10,000 additional rows/month and $1 per additional GB stored, so the included allowances matter to the total cost. Pro is a clearer fit for teams needing more room and direct support, but its seat and usage limits still require monitoring.

Enterprise has custom pricing and offers custom limits, custom SSO, custom roles, audit logs, private cloud, and premium support. A trial for the self-hosted enterprise version is available by contacting Evidently. Startups has custom pricing under a special offer and includes core features, free credits toward Pro, and premium support. The free trial offer also applies to Evidently, but the stated trial terms are for the self-hosted enterprise version.

Platforms

Evidently supports API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows environments. The combination of local and hosted deployment options can suit teams integrating checks into existing development environments while choosing how to run the broader platform.

Who it's for

Evidently is a strong fit for teams building or operating LLMs, RAG applications, AI agents, or predictive ML models that want evaluation, testing, and monitoring in the same toolkit. The open-source framework suits teams that can run local dashboards and work with community support; Developer suits small hosted projects within its quotas. Pro is more appropriate when projects need higher allowances and email support. Teams needing custom controls, private cloud, or audit logs should consider Enterprise; teams that only need one narrow observability function may prefer a more specialized option.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 100 metrics and Apache 2.0 licensing provide an open foundation for evaluation and testing.
Pros: Synthetic inputs, red-team checks, monitoring, tracing, and dataset management span multiple stages of AI quality work.
Pros: Predictive ML metrics extend the product beyond LLM and agent workflows.
Cons: Developer's 10,000-row monthly limit, 1GB snapshot allowance, 3-project cap, and 2-seat cap constrain hosted use.
Cons: Pro's $80 monthly price is supplemented by row and storage overage charges, so growth can increase cost.
Cons: Open-source support is community-based rather than email or premium support.

Alternatives

For teams comparing category options, see Model Monitoring Software, LLM Observability Tools, AI LLM Evaluation Tools, and Machine Learning Model Monitoring Software.

Laminar is worth comparing for a freemium alternative with a free plan, API, self-hosted, and web platforms. Langfuse is another freemium option with a free plan and API, self-hosted, and web support. Maxim AI has a free Developer plan with up to 10k logs per month, 3 seats, and 3-day data retention, a concise fit for low-volume evaluation needs. Opik offers open-source core observability and evaluation features users can run locally, making it a relevant comparison for teams prioritizing self-hosting. Qualdo-MQX has a Starter plan at 79.00 USD per month with up to 100 GB data and 10 ML models, so it is worth considering for teams comparing model-count and data allowances. W&B Weave offers a free plan with 1 GB/month ingestion and 5 GB/month storage for AI application evaluations, tracing, and scorers. Arize AX provides a free cloud tier with 25k trace spans/month, 1 GB ingestion/month, and 15-day retention, a concrete option for teams weighing hosted tracing limits. Arthur has a free plan with stated caps for projects, jobs, spans, inferences, and evaluations, and is another option to compare for bounded usage.

Verdict

Choose Evidently if your team wants open-source evaluation with a path to monitoring, tracing, synthetic testing, and hosted project management across both AI applications and predictive ML. Its breadth and local framework are the main reasons to choose it; look elsewhere if the Developer caps are too tight and Pro's monthly fee plus overages do not fit your expected scale.
