Overview

ERPNext is an open-source ERP that brings finance, sales, procurement, inventory, manufacturing and people operations into one system. It suits organizations that want broad business coverage and the option to manage their own deployment. Its strongest case is flexibility across modules, hosting and customization; teams should weigh that against the need to arrange implementation and functional support.

Key features

Broad operational coverage

Accounts, invoicing, sales, procurement, stock and manufacturing sit alongside projects, point of sale, HR and payroll. That breadth makes ERPNext a candidate for teams trying to coordinate several business functions in one platform rather than assemble separate tools. Finance, inventory, order management, manufacturing tools and multi-entity support are included.

Configuration and API access

A low-code and no-code builder supports changes to forms, reports, print formats, dashboards and workflows. That gives teams room to adapt processes without treating every change as a custom integration project, though organizations still need people to own configuration. ERPNext DocTypes are exposed through REST endpoints for reading, creating, updating and deleting records, subject to permissions, making the API useful for connecting ERP data to a wider stack.

Multi-entity operations and integrations

Support for subsidiaries, branches and multiple currencies, along with consolidated reports and configurable tax compliance, is relevant to businesses operating across entities or markets. Official integration categories include identity, storage, payments, commerce platforms and Google services, with examples such as LDAP, Dropbox, Shopify, Stripe and Amazon SP-API.

Controls and support

OTP or two-factor authentication, IP restrictions, field-level roles and permissions, and an advanced audit trail provide controls for managing access and accountability. Frappe says its quality and information security systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 27001:2013, and Frappe Cloud is GDPR compliant. Product Warranty covers engineer support for bug fixes, not functional guidance; organizations needing implementation or customization help can work with Frappe's network of 200+ trained and certified partners.

Pricing

ERPNext is freemium, with a free self-hosted option and Frappe Cloud hosting plans. The right choice depends on whether a team wants to operate its own server or pay for managed hosting.

Self-hosted ERPNext — 0.00 USD per free: The AGPL-3.0 software has no product charge when deployed on your own server. This suits teams able to take responsibility for their own hosting.
Frappe Cloud Sites — 5.00 USD per month, billed monthly: Single-site shared-server hosting includes managed upgrades and backups. It is the lower-cost hosted entry point, but is limited to one site and shared hosting.
Frappe Cloud Servers — 20.00 USD per month, billed monthly: Virtual machine hosting supports multiple sites and benches, making it a fit for deployments that need more than a single hosted site.
Sites — 5.00 USD per month, billed onwards /mo: Single-site shared hosting includes managed upgrades and backups, scripting and custom apps, and Product Warranty. It adds customization options and bug-fix support to hosted service, but remains a single-site shared-server plan.
Servers — 125.00 USD per month, billed onwards /mo: Dedicated server isolation, snapshots, autoscaling, stronger reliability guarantees, global data centre locations and Product Warranty target teams with more demanding hosting needs.

A 14-day trial is offered. Product Warranty is limited to bug fixes, so teams that need functional support should plan for other assistance, such as an implementation partner.

Platforms

ERPNext supports API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted and web environments. Hybrid deployment gives teams a choice between running it on their own infrastructure and using Frappe Cloud.

Who it's for

ERPNext is worth considering for small and medium businesses, enterprises, freelancers and DIY users seeking a configurable ERP across multiple functions. Its self-hosted AGPL-3.0 option will appeal to teams that want control over deployment; managed cloud plans suit those who prefer hosted infrastructure. It is a weaker fit for buyers who expect functional support as part of Product Warranty or do not have a clear plan for implementation and configuration.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad modules spanning finance, manufacturing, projects and HR can reduce the need to split core operations across separate systems.
Pros: REST API access and a low-code/no-code builder give technical teams ways to connect and adapt the system.
Pros: Self-hosting has no product charge, while cloud options start at 5.00 USD per month.
Cons: Product Warranty handles bug fixes rather than functional support, leaving process guidance to the organization or its partners.
Cons: The least expensive hosted option is limited to one site on shared servers, which may not suit more complex deployments.
