Overview

Amped Studio combines audio and MIDI editing with arrangement, mixing, project sharing, and AI-assisted composition. Its AI assistant generates a starting composition from a chosen style and tempo, which users can then edit. That makes it a useful way to get a draft underway, not a substitute for shaping the result yourself.

The VST Remote bridge connects locally installed VST and VST3 plugins to browser sessions, extending the available plugin workflow beyond the browser itself. The bridge is offered for Windows and Mac, while the Studio requires a compatible desktop browser.

Key features

Composition and editing

Audio-to-MIDI conversion, MIDI editing, pitch and gain controls, stretching, cutting, effects, and parameter automation cover a broad set of production tasks. The AI stem splitter separates a song into 2, 4, or 5 stems, including vocals, drums, bass, piano, and other instruments, directly in a project. These tools suit creators who want to build and revise arrangements in one workspace.

Plugin access and collaboration

The VST Remote bridge is a practical advantage for producers who rely on locally installed VST or VST3 plugins. Project sharing supports asynchronous collaboration; the FAQ says two or more Premium members can work together on a shared project. This is useful for handoffs and joint work, but it is not a reason to choose Amped Studio for real-time sessions.

Pricing

Amped Studio uses a freemium model, with a free plan, paid plans, and a 7-day trial. The Starter plan has no listed price: it allows 5 projects and 16 tracks, with 0 GB of external audio storage. It is the lowest-commitment option, but its project and track caps constrain ongoing work.

Premium costs 6.99 USD per month, with a billed 7-day trial. It includes 50 projects, unlimited tracks, 10 GB of storage, and 2 sample packs. It is the clearest fit for individual producers who need room to build projects without a track cap.

Premium + AI costs 12.99 USD per month, with a billed 7-day trial. It raises storage to 50 GB and includes unlimited projects and tracks plus 8 sample packs. Choose it if those higher project and storage limits, or the AI tier, justify the added monthly cost.

Classroom costs 6.99 USD per month, billed for 1 seat per month. Its listed tools support groups, classes, assignments, and remote lessons, and the plan states COPPA compliance. The one-seat billing basis matters for educators planning access for a class.

Platforms

The platform is available on the web and supports macOS and Windows. It works in Chromium-based browsers including Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Brave, but does not function fully in Firefox or Safari. The Studio itself is not currently available on mobile, so teams expecting phone or tablet production should choose another workflow.

For privacy, the company says it uses physical, electronic, and managerial safeguards, processes data through AWS and Amazon S3, and uses Stripe for payments without storing card or bank details in the service. Users can ask support for information about their data or request deletion of their account and personal information.

Who it's for

Amped Studio fits beginners who want browser-based production tools, vocalists working with editing and stem separation, and content creators making music in a desktop browser. Its Classroom plan also targets music education, with tools for class organization and remote lessons. Advanced users may value the plugin bridge and editing controls, but the browser and mobile constraints make it a poor fit for teams whose stack depends on Safari, Firefox, or mobile Studio access.

Pros and cons

Pro: The VST Remote bridge connects local VST and VST3 plugins to browser sessions, an advantage for producers who already use desktop plugins.
Pro: Audio, MIDI, automation, AI composition, and stem separation give creators several ways to develop and revise a project in one workspace.
Pro: Premium includes unlimited tracks, while Premium + AI adds unlimited projects and 50 GB of storage.
Con: The Studio does not function fully in Firefox or Safari and is not currently available on mobile, narrowing device choice.
Con: Starter caps users at 5 projects and 16 tracks and provides no external audio storage, limiting its usefulness for sustained production.
Con: Classroom is billed per seat, so the 6.99 USD per month price applies to one seat rather than an entire class.

Alternatives

For broader music and collaboration options, browse Music Collaboration Software or Audio Editing Software.

Pibox is a freemium option with a free plan for 2 users, unlimited guests, up to 2 projects, and 1 Gb of storage; consider it when shared file projects matter more than browser-based music production tools.
Jamulus is free and open-source, with platforms including Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows; choose it if that platform range or its open-source model better matches your needs.
Flat has a free plan with core notation features and a 15-score limit; it is the alternative to consider when music notation is the priority.
Soundtrap offers a free account with limited loops and instruments and supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows; consider it if mobile access matters.
FarPlay has a free plan for 1-to-1 sessions up to 45 minutes and joining multi-user sessions; pick it when those session formats suit your collaboration needs.
Highnote offers a free plan with 15 total tracks and 50GB cloud storage; it may suit teams prioritizing shared-space storage over Amped Studio's production workflow.
Notetracks Pro has a free plan with 3 projects, 1 GB storage, 2 collaborators, and commenting; consider it when project review and feedback are the main need.
Sesh is a freemium alternative with a free plan; consider it if its offering better matches your workflow.

Verdict

Choose Amped Studio if you want a desktop-browser production workspace that combines audio and MIDI editing, AI-assisted tools, and access to local VST plugins. Its main advantage is that breadth within a browser workflow; its main drawback is the narrow browser and device support. Teams that need mobile Studio access, full Firefox or Safari functionality, or real-time collaboration should look elsewhere.
