Overview

DataLion is a survey, research-analysis and dashboard platform for teams that need to turn collected or imported data into shareable results. It is best suited to research and insights groups that need more than survey collection alone. Its analytical breadth is a strength, but the one-user free plan is a narrow starting point for collaborative work.

Founded in 2014 and based in Munich, DataLion supports web use, API access and self-hosted deployment. Its sales-analytics capabilities are relevant to some teams, but its core workflow is oriented toward research; buyers focused on sales operations should weigh that distinction.

Key features

Survey creation and analysis

Questionnaires support skip logic and distribution, and publication automatically produces a dataset, codebook and live dashboard. This connected workflow can reduce handoffs between fielding a survey and sharing its results. Analysis tools include crosstabs, significance testing, weighting, regression, ANOVA, MaxDiff, price-sensitivity analysis, and sentiment and topic analysis. That range suits structured market and consumer research better than a workflow limited to basic summaries; crosstabs and AI analysis are excluded from Free.

Imports and dashboards

DataLion accepts SPSS, Excel, CSV, database and API data, with scheduled imports and the ability to combine sources in a project. That makes it a plausible fit when survey responses need to sit alongside existing datasets. Drag-and-drop dashboard building, interactive filters, drill-downs and more than 50 chart types give teams several ways to present findings, though live sharing with viewers starts at Starter.

Exports, integrations and access

Exports include editable PowerPoint, Google Slides, Excel, PDF, image and CSV formats. A Power BI OData feed, REST API and AI access through MCP extend its connections to other workflows; the Solo plan includes REST API and Claude/MCP. DataLion says its hosting is in Germany in ISO 27001-certified data centers; that certification applies to the data centers and hosting, not to DataLion itself. Its Art. 28 GDPR Data Processing Agreement is included, and access options include roles, granular profiles, optional two-factor authentication and SSO. On-premise Docker deployment and dedicated hosting are Enterprise options, making that tier the relevant one for teams with deployment requirements beyond standard web access.

Pricing

DataLion uses a freemium model, with paid plans billed monthly on an annual basis and prices excluding VAT. A 14-day trial is available.

Free: 0.00 EUR per free, free forever. It allows one user, one project and 100 cases, with surveys, the AI builder, 75 templates, Excel/CSV/SPSS imports and live dashboards. Exports and AI analysis are excluded, and the plan comparison also excludes crosstabs. The caps make it useful for an individual evaluating basic survey and dashboard workflows, not a team rollout.
Solo: 100.00 EUR per month, billed per month and annually, excl. VAT. One administrator licence, unlimited projects, full analysis, exports, AI analysis, Theme Studio, REST API and Claude/MCP make this the entry point for an individual needing the fuller toolkit.
Starter: 350.00 EUR per month, billed per month and annually, excl. VAT. It adds five viewer seats alongside one administrator and live dashboard sharing, fitting an analyst who needs to distribute results without adding editors.
Pro: 525.00 EUR per month, billed per month and annually, excl. VAT. One admin, one editor and 10 viewers come with white label, Conjoint (CBC), BI views and priority support. It suits teams that need branded delivery, collaborative editing or those additional research capabilities.
Enterprise: custom pricing, from €1,400 per month with a minimum fee, under an annual contract by licence mix, excl. VAT. Tailored licences, dedicated hosting in Germany or self-hosting, SSO, SLA, personal contact, onboarding, training and data consultancy target organizations with deployment or service requirements that call for a configured arrangement.

All plans include German-language email support and a help center; Pro and Enterprise add priority support, and Enterprise includes an SLA and personal contact. The jump from Free to Solo is substantial for an individual, while teams need at least Starter for viewer seats and dashboard sharing.

Platforms

DataLion runs on the web and offers API access. Teams can choose on-premise Docker deployment or a dedicated hosted instance through Enterprise, rather than treating hosting choice as a standard lower-tier feature.

Who it's for

DataLion is aimed at market research institutes, in-house research and consumer-insights teams, agencies, HR teams and publishers. It is most compelling when a group needs to create surveys, analyze data with research methods and distribute interactive reporting in one platform. Teams seeking only sales forecasting or pipeline tracking may find its survey-and-research orientation less central to their needs.

Pros and cons

Pro: Survey publishing generates a dataset, codebook and dashboard, linking collection to reporting without a separate setup step.
Pro: Its analysis toolkit spans statistical methods and specialized research techniques, not just dashboard visualization.
Pro: Imports, scheduled data collection and source combination support projects that draw on multiple data sources.
Pro: Self-hosting and dedicated German hosting provide deployment choices for Enterprise buyers.
Con: Free is capped at one user, one project and 100 cases, and omits exports, crosstabs and AI analysis, limiting its value for sustained or collaborative research.
Con: Viewer seats and live dashboard sharing start at Starter, so distributing work across a team raises the annual-commitment price to 350.00 EUR per month.
Con: Solo is limited to one administrator licence; teams that need editing, white label or priority support must move to Pro.

SalesInsights is another paid, web-based option.

Verdict

Choose DataLion if your team needs survey workflows, serious research analysis and interactive reporting together, especially when its deployment options matter. Its breadth is the main reason to choose it; the constrained free tier and the cost of adding team access are the main reasons to look elsewhere.
