Overview

Guusto is an employee recognition and rewards platform built to reach both frontline and office staff. It is best suited to HR teams coordinating several recognition programs across work settings; its range of delivery options is a strength, though annual minimums can make paid tiers a poor fit for smaller budgets.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Guusto supports programs including birthdays, anniversaries, peer shoutouts, manager recognition, nominations, performance awards, safety incentives and learning incentives. For category comparisons, see Employee Recognition Software, Employee Rewards Software and Total Rewards Software.

Key features

Recognition across work settings

Rewards can be sent by email or SMS, printed, displayed as QR codes, or routed through a manager for in-person delivery. That flexibility matters for employers whose staff do not all use workplace apps or work at desks. Recipients redeem Guusto cards for gift cards, company swag, charity donations or custom rewards.

Program and budget administration

Separate workspaces, budgets and administrators, alongside approval workflows and cost-center pools, give HR teams ways to govern programs across departments. Real-time reporting and taxable-benefit reporting help with oversight and reward accounting. The tradeoff is that organizations seeking only occasional recognition may not need this level of program structure.

Integrations, security and support

Guusto offers HRIS, single sign-on and collaboration integrations, plus an API for sending recognition and integrating reporting. Named integrations include Microsoft Teams, Outlook, SharePoint and UKG Pro; report exports can be scheduled over SFTP. Its trust materials identify PCI DSS and SOC 2 compliance and cover audit logging, data security, multi-factor authentication, access monitoring, backups and encryption at rest. Guusto states an average support response time under 10 minutes and a 95% support satisfaction rating.

Pricing

Guusto uses a freemium model, with paid pricing from $4/user/mo and a 30-day trial. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, has no minimum reward spend, and includes reward sending, a mobile app and 100+ merchant options. It is a low-commitment way to start, but the listed inclusions are narrower than the program controls and reporting described for the platform.

Lite costs 150.00 USD per month and includes 1 Sender Seat, 250 Recipient Seats, bulk sending to unlimited recipients and cancellation of unclaimed gifts. It suits a small organization that needs a single sender and a fixed recipient base; the one-sender cap is restrictive for distributed administration.

Essential is 4.00 USD per month, billed at $4.00/mo per Sender Seat and $0.70/mo per Recipient Seat, with a $200/mo minimum contract billed annually. Premium is 5.00 USD per month, billed at $5.00/mo per Sender Seat and $1.00/mo per Recipient Seat, with a $500/mo minimum billed annually. Essential is the lower-cost seat-based option, while Premium costs more and is positioned above it; the annual minimums are the key constraint, particularly for teams with few users or modest program budgets. For Lite and higher tiers, unclaimed gifts are credited back in full. Enterprise has custom pricing for enterprise-grade recognition, customization, automation and integrations.

Platforms

Guusto supports Android, iOS and web, and provides an API. The combination gives teams mobile and browser access alongside a route for connecting recognition and reporting with existing systems.

Who it's for

Guusto is a strong candidate for HR leaders in healthcare, hospitality, retail, construction, manufacturing and financial services who need recognition to reach frontline as well as office employees. Its varied delivery channels and budget controls suit organizations operating formal programs across teams. It is less compelling for buyers who need only a small, inexpensive recognition tool and cannot justify the paid plans' annual minimums.

Pros and cons

Multiple ways to deliver rewards: Email, SMS, print, QR codes and manager delivery accommodate employees with different access to workplace technology.
Broad program administration: Separate budgets, admins, approvals and cost-center pools support oversight across recognition initiatives.
Useful integration paths: HRIS, SSO and collaboration integrations, an API and scheduled SFTP exports give teams options for connecting workflows and reporting.
Paid-plan minimums: Essential and Premium require annual contracts with $200/mo and $500/mo minimums, respectively, which can outweigh seat-based rates for smaller programs.
Lite's sender limit: One Sender Seat makes the $150.00 USD per month plan a limited fit where multiple people need to administer rewards.

Alternatives

Bonusly is worth considering for teams that want a free plan explicitly capped at up to 8 users, with peer recognition, guidance, Slack and Teams integrations, and iOS and Android apps. Aon Activate is another paid option for buyers comparing recognition platforms.

Motivosity is an alternative for buyers seeking its Celebrating People offering, which includes a social platform and mobile app, milestone celebration programs, corporate gifting and a global reward marketplace. Compport may suit teams evaluating a quote-based option whose pricing varies by headcount, plan complexity and modules. Awardco Engage is a paid alternative available as an individual or bundled subscription.

TotalRewards Software is oriented toward planning, designing and producing employee statements, with spreadsheet data upload in its free edition. Pave Market Data is a different kind of option for teams seeking free U.S. and one additional market benchmarks for startups with 1–200 employees, or global benchmarks through its Pro plan. Conduent Life@Work Total Rewards is another paid platform to compare.

Verdict

Choose Guusto if you need a structured recognition program that can reach frontline and office employees through varied reward channels, with budgets, approvals and reporting in one platform. Look elsewhere if your program is small or budget-sensitive: the annual minimums on Essential and Premium, and Lite's single sender, may be harder to justify than the per-seat rates suggest.
