Overview

Confident AI connects prompt and model experimentation with CI/CD regression checks, red-team testing, and production traces. That breadth is useful when teams want evaluation and monitoring to share a platform rather than assemble separate tools. Its API exposes platform functions including prompt versioning, dataset building, trace ingestion, project provisioning, and governance policies.

For production monitoring, the platform captures execution spans, inputs, outputs, latency, and token usage, and can alert when quality degrades. Evaluations cover more than 50 metrics, and teams can also use custom metrics, LLM-as-a-judge, safety evaluations, and human review workflows. These capabilities span both automated checks and human assessment, though the free plan's small test-run allowance limits how much evaluation a team can do there.

Key features

Evaluation and safety

Prompt, model, and parameter experiments help teams compare changes, while automated CI/CD regression evaluations can bring checks into delivery workflows. Red teaming targets safety vulnerabilities and adversarial attacks. Together, these features make Confident AI a fit for teams that need to assess quality and safety before release, not just watch behavior after deployment.

Production observability and integrations

Trace spans capture inputs, outputs, latency, and tokens, with live alerts for quality degradation. Python and TypeScript SDKs, OpenTelemetry, and more than 20 framework and gateway integrations make it adaptable to varied stacks. Evaluation-completion notifications can go to Slack, Discord, Teams, or email. API authentication uses organization-level and project-level API keys.

Deployment and controls

Teams can use the web platform or deploy it in their own AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud with Docker; self-hosting typically takes 1–2 weeks to set up. The documentation states HIPAA compliance, while data protection includes encryption at rest, TLS in transit, and SOC II and HIPAA compliance. SSO and customizable roles and permissions are also supported. Self-hosting and access controls make it a credible option for teams with deployment or governance requirements, but the setup time is a real consideration.

Pricing

Confident AI is freemium, with no free trial. The free plan is billed Forever at $0 and includes 2 user seats, 1 project, 5 test runs per week, and 1 GB-month of trace spans. It is a constrained way to evaluate the platform, not a generous operating tier; free-tier test-run and tracing data are retained for 14 days.

Starter costs $200 / month and includes unlimited user seats, 5 projects, and 5 GB-months of trace spans. Additional trace storage costs $1 per GB-month. Input tokens are approximately $0.05/M and output tokens $0.40/M. Starter suits teams that need broader access and modest project capacity, but trace storage is capped and can add cost.

Team costs $2,000 / month and includes unlimited seats and projects, 75 GB-months of trace spans, and the same $1 per additional GB-month rate and approximate token rates. It fits organizations running more projects or generating more traces; the jump from Starter is substantial. Enterprise has custom pricing, with unlimited seats, projects, and GB-months of trace spans, plus unlimited online evaluation metric runs per month. Teams needing those limits removed should consider Enterprise and request a quote.

Platforms

Confident AI is available via API and web, with self-hosted deployment also supported. That combination accommodates teams integrating quality checks into their own tooling as well as those seeking a managed interface.

Who it's for

The platform is designed for engineers, QA teams, product managers, subject-matter experts, and annotators. It is strongest for organizations that want development evaluation, red teaming, and production monitoring in a shared workflow, especially when APIs, integrations, or self-hosting matter. A small team with only occasional testing may find the free plan too limited, while teams without a need for both evaluation and observability may not benefit from its breadth.

Pros and cons

Pro: Evaluation, CI/CD regression checks, red teaming, traces, and live alerts cover multiple stages of AI quality work in one platform.
Pro: Broad API access, SDKs, OpenTelemetry, and more than 20 integrations give teams several ways to connect it to an existing stack.
Pro: Self-hosting in AWS, Azure, or GCP and stated HIPAA compliance support teams with deployment and governance requirements.
Con: The free tier allows just 5 test runs per week, 1 project, and 1 GB-month of trace spans, with 14-day retention for test-run and tracing data.
Con: Starter begins at $200 / month and includes only 5 GB-months of traces; additional storage is $1 per GB-month.
Con: Self-hosted setup typically takes 1–2 weeks, which can slow adoption for teams seeking a quick deployment.

Alternatives

Consider Braintrust if a free starting tier with unlimited users, projects, and datasets matters more: its Starter plan includes 1 GB processed data, 10,000 scores, and 14-day retention. Choose Galileo if its Pro plan's 50,000 traces per month, standard RBAC, advanced analytics, and dedicated Slack support better fit the need; it is $100.00 per month billed yearly.

Giskard is an option for teams seeking an open-source library, local deployment, and a basic LLM vulnerability scan. Maxim AI may suit developers who want a free tier with up to 3 seats, 1 workspace, up to 10k logs per month, and 3-day data retention. Parea AI offers a free plan capped at 2 team members, 3k logs per month with one-month retention, and 10 deployed prompts; its Team plan is $150.00 per month.

For a locally runnable red-teaming and evaluation option, Promptfoo has a free Community plan with 10k red-team probes per month, evaluation features, and model-provider integrations. Inspect AI is a free open-source framework for large language model evaluations. OpenCompass is free open-source software distributed as a Python package, though some datasets and inference backends require optional dependencies.

Verdict

Confident AI is a strong choice for teams that want development evaluations, red-team testing, and production observability under one API-accessible roof, with self-hosting available for cloud deployment needs. Its breadth and integrations are the main reasons to choose it; the small free allowance, $200 / month Starter entry point, and trace overage charges are reasons to look elsewhere if needs are modest or budgets are tight.
