Overview

Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Helsinki, RELEX brings forecasting, inventory, pricing, merchandising, production and supply-chain planning into one platform. Its solution areas span demand and manufacturing planning, replenishment, fresh and retail operations, assortment, promotions, diagnostics and strategic planning. RELEX says its technology has been refined across more than 600 enterprise implementations and serves more than 600 customers globally.

This breadth can reduce the need to coordinate separate planning tools, particularly for organizations with complex retail or manufacturing operations. It also raises the stakes of implementation fit: the value depends on connecting the platform to the operational systems and processes a business already runs.

Key features

Planning and optimization

Demand planning uses machine learning and automation to improve forecast accuracy and planning efficiency. Inventory planning automates complex optimization and is designed to support 99+% availability with less stock. That is a clear goal for teams balancing service levels against inventory, not a guaranteed outcome for every operation.

Fresh operations cover AI-driven ordering, in-store production planning, markdowns, recipes and expiration management. Pricing and promotions combine optimization with configurable AI agents, scenario testing, approvals and alerts. Manufacturing planning adds AI-generated master plans, constraint-aware scheduling and distribution planning. Scenario planning, supplier management, logistics planning and fulfillment management are also supported.

Integration and extensibility

RELEX connects with ERP, POS, WMS, HR and MDM systems, including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Visma, IFS, AS400, Databricks and Snowflake. Exchange options include batch API through Azure Blob Storage or SFTP, plus the RELEX Data API for near-real-time exchange. RELEX Data Sharing also provides near-real-time access to planning data in Snowflake without moving or duplicating it.

RELEX Open lets customers use existing planning capabilities, connect external AI agents and enterprise systems through open protocols and MCP, and build new capabilities on the platform. This is useful for teams extending a planning environment rather than replacing every adjacent system. Access to the Developer Portal requires registration.

Security and support

RELEX describes access controls, network segmentation, encrypted authenticated transfers, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, backups, disaster-recovery testing and 24/7 security monitoring. Its Inventory and Supply Chain software has ISO 27001 certification, SOC 2 Type I and Type II audits, and GDPR compliance statements. Customers can contact support by email or by phone in the United States, Europe and Australia.

Pricing

RELEX is paid software with custom pricing. Request pricing for the scope of planning capabilities and deployment that fits your organization; no seat, usage, trial or renewal terms are established here, so teams should confirm those during evaluation.

Platforms

RELEX lists API and iOS support and offers both deployment options. RELEX Mobile Pro is an in-store execution app for retailers, suppliers, wholesalers and manufacturers, with iPhone and iPad support.

Who it's for

RELEX is best suited to enterprise retailers, wholesalers, distributors, consumer packaged goods companies and manufacturers that need several planning domains connected to operational data. It is a stronger fit when the organization can support a broad platform implementation and has a clear need for coordinated forecasting, replenishment, production or pricing decisions. A team seeking a narrow tool or a quick, low-commitment purchase should compare more focused options.

SAP compatibility needs particular scrutiny: the SAP Connector supports S/4HANA on-premises, S/4HANA private cloud (RISE) and ECC 6.0 EHP8. It does not support SAP S/4 public cloud (GROW) or ECC versions earlier than EHP8.

Pros and cons

Pro: Multiple planning domains—from demand and inventory to manufacturing and pricing—sit in one platform, which suits organizations trying to coordinate decisions across functions.
Pro: Batch and near-real-time data exchange, plus Snowflake Data Sharing, give teams several ways to connect planning with existing systems and data.
Pro: RELEX Open supports external AI agents and custom capabilities, giving technically equipped customers room to extend the platform.
Con: SAP connector exclusions rule out S/4 public cloud (GROW) and ECC releases before EHP8, so those environments need another integration approach.
Con: Custom pricing makes budget comparison dependent on a scoped discussion rather than a published rate.
Con: Developer Portal registration is required, adding a gate for teams assessing developer access.

Verdict

Choose RELEX if your enterprise needs broad, connected planning across retail, wholesale or manufacturing and can invest in fitting it to your systems. Its main advantage is the range of planning capabilities and integration paths in one platform; its main reason to look elsewhere is a mismatch with the SAP versions it supports or a need for transparent, off-the-shelf pricing.
