Overview

Armor combines endpoint protection with managed security operations and compliance services for organizations. It is best suited to teams that need 24/7 monitoring or support for regulated cloud environments; its free endpoint tier offers a limited way to start. The breadth is useful, but buyers should distinguish the endpoint plans from the scope-based MDR and enterprise offerings.

Founded in 2009, Armor Defense Inc. is headquartered in Plano, Texas, and says it serves organizations in 40 countries. Its global Security Operations Center provides round-the-clock detection, threat hunting, investigation, and remediation support.

For a broader category comparison, see Cloud Security Platforms.

Key features

Armor Agent covers malware protection, file integrity monitoring, intrusion prevention, and vulnerability scanning with patch monitoring. Premium adds security alerts, log search, threat intelligence, threat hunting, support, and 24×7 SOC monitoring. That makes Premium a fuller managed endpoint choice, while the free tier is a narrower fit for very small endpoint estates.

Armor MDR adds 24/7 monitoring and triage, threat hunting, and response that can include containment and remediation guidance. The Nexus portal gives customers a real-time view of investigated threats and the actions taken by Armor’s team. AI-assisted incident investigation, MITRE ATT&CK mapping, threat intelligence, and response-time tracking give security teams context for following incidents, while analyst involvement makes MDR more appropriate for organizations that need operational support than for teams seeking only self-managed tools.

Armor says its platform integrates with Microsoft and Oracle cloud environments and can work with customers’ existing Microsoft security tools. Armor Dash connects to source systems through an API, quantifies cyber risk in dollars using FAIR, and tracks compliance across several frameworks.

Armor Enterprise Cloud bundles hardened operating systems, malware and file integrity controls, vulnerability and patch management, intrusion detection and prevention, disaster recovery, DDoS mitigation, WAF, SIEM log management, and continuous threat hunting. It also includes controls and audit support for regulated environments, addressing frameworks such as HIPAA, PCI DSS, GDPR, SOC 2, NIST CSF, and ISO 27001. That scope can suit compliance-led deployments, but teams should confirm which controls and services match their own requirements.

Pricing

Armor uses a freemium model, with paid plans from $99/mo. The free plan is capped at five endpoints, so it is an entry point rather than a fleet-wide option.

Armor Agent Free Tier: Price not listed; billed per endpoint, up to five endpoints. Includes malware protection, file integrity monitoring, intrusion prevention, a toolbox, and vulnerability scanning and patch monitoring. It suits evaluation or a small endpoint footprint, but lacks the Premium inclusions of security alerts, log search, threat intelligence, threat hunting, support, and 24×7 SOC monitoring.
Armor Agent Premium Tier: $99.00 USD per month, billed per endpoint, with no endpoint limit. It includes the free tier’s core protections plus security alerts, log search, threat intelligence, threat hunting, support, and 24×7 SOC monitoring. The per-endpoint basis means the total rises with the number of endpoints.
Armor Managed Detection and Response (MDR): Custom pricing; the starting price is $4,380/month for 500 endpoints, with terms depending on coverage and scope. It includes 24×7 SOC monitoring, compliance management, cloud-native SIEM, and automation. This is aimed at organizations buying managed monitoring at scale, rather than endpoint protection alone.
Armor Enterprise Cloud (AEC): Custom pricing based on scope. It includes 600+ controls, automated mapping to top compliance standards, cyber insurance coverage, and 24×7 SOC monitoring. It fits organizations with broader cloud security and compliance needs that require a scoped engagement.

Platforms

Armor lists API, Linux, web, and Windows support. Its offering also includes cloud posture management, workload protection, and container security, giving it scope beyond endpoint defenses.

Who it's for

Healthcare, finance, and manufacturing organizations are among the markets Armor identifies for compliance controls and tailored support. Teams already using Microsoft or Oracle cloud environments may also find the stated integrations relevant. Organizations without a need for managed response or compliance support may find the broader service scope unnecessary; the free endpoint tier is more proportionate for up to five endpoints.

Pros and cons

Pro: Premium combines endpoint controls with threat hunting and 24×7 SOC monitoring, reducing the need to source those elements separately.
Pro: AEC spans operational security controls and compliance mapping, which is useful for regulated cloud environments.
Pro: Microsoft and Oracle cloud integrations and compatibility with existing Microsoft security tools can fit established environments.
Con: Premium is billed per endpoint, so costs scale with endpoint count.
Con: MDR pricing depends on coverage and scope, and AEC is custom-priced, making both harder to compare on a simple plan-price basis.
Con: The free tier stops at five endpoints and does not include Premium’s listed SOC monitoring and threat-hunting inclusions.

Alternatives

C3M Cloud Control is worth considering for a free assessment of up to two cloud accounts or a demo-based proposal for a paid platform.

Kubescape is the better fit for teams seeking a free, Apache 2.0-licensed, self-hosted Kubernetes CLI and operator; ARMO creates and maintains it.

Prowler Cloud offers a 15-day free trial with no cloud account limit and every check and compliance framework, making it a useful trial-led alternative.

Qualys TotalCloud may suit teams that want a free license with limited API calls for control evaluation before considering its Cloud Platform subscription.

Palo Alto Networks Cortex Cloud API Security is another paid API-focused option.

Cloudanix is a paid alternative with a Cloud Pro Posture plan billed at 3.49 USD per month per monitored asset, a 100-asset minimum, and CSPM, CIEM, compliance, attack paths, and risk capabilities.

SentinelOne Singularity Cloud Security is another paid option with per-endpoint plans and different data-retention periods.

Sysdig Secure is a paid alternative licensed by host count, including compute instances for CSPM.

Verdict

Armor is a strong fit for organizations that want endpoint protection backed by 24/7 security operations, or cloud controls aligned with regulated environments. Its combination of monitoring, response, and compliance breadth is the main reason to choose it. Look elsewhere if you need straightforward, readily comparable pricing or a self-managed cloud security tool without managed-service scope.
