Overview

Shipwell TMS is a transportation management platform that connects shipper workflows across freight modes and stages of execution. It is aimed at logistics coordinators, planners, and operations managers whose teams need carrier connectivity and a shared view of freight activity. Its broad scope is the draw; the custom-quote sales process is a drawback for buyers who need pricing clarity before engaging.

Key features

Shipwell brings freight procurement, load tendering, exception management, invoice settlement, freight audit, and spend analysis into one environment. That range can help teams keep core transportation work together rather than manage it across disconnected tools. Predictive analytics and AI-powered decision support add value for teams making planning and exception decisions, though the platform’s breadth may be unnecessary for organizations with a narrow freight remit.

Multimodal workflows cover planning, pricing, booking, and tracking across road, rail, ocean, and parcel shipments, involving carriers, brokers, and fleets. This makes Shipwell a plausible fit for shippers coordinating varied transport modes. The supplier portal extends the workflow upstream with supplier onboarding, purchase order creation and release, order visibility, notifications, and shipment creation, which is useful when supplier participation is part of the operating model.

AI Workers and RFP Automation are available as standalone modules within the Shipwell environment. That modular option lets buyers focus on those capabilities without adopting the full set of TMS workflows, while keeping them in the same platform.

Shipwell describes the TMS as API-first, with REST, SOAP, and webhook connectivity. ERP connections can exchange data through APIs in real time or transfer flat files over SFTP for batch processing. The partner directory includes Infor, Microsoft D365, Highway, UPS, Coyote, and SAIA, among others. This mix gives integration teams several paths to evaluate, but buyers should validate the specific data flows their stack requires.

Shipwell states that it maintains SOC 2 compliance, encrypts data with AES 256 and SSL/TLS 1.2 or stronger, and processes customer data according to customer instructions without access or use absent explicit permission. Its TMS page gives an uptime target of 99.9999%; that is a target, not a substitute for assessing operational requirements.

Native shipper apps are offered for iPhone and Android, with web-platform credentials used to sign in. The separate Driver App runs on Android and iOS and lets carriers view and bid on freight, review upcoming shipments, and communicate with shippers and 3PLs in real time. These mobile options support work beyond a desktop workflow, especially for carrier-facing coordination.

Pricing

Shipwell TMS: custom pricing, with a quote tailored to organizational needs. Prospective customers must contact sales, so teams cannot compare a published subscription rate or seat allowance before starting that conversation. No trial or free plan is stated.

That sales-led approach is reasonable for a platform whose scope may vary across modes, integrations, and modules, but it makes early budget screening harder. Teams evaluating the full TMS should request a quote that makes the included workflows, standalone modules, support access, and any relevant usage terms clear.

Platforms

Shipwell TMS is available on web, Android, and iOS, with API access for system connectivity. Its documented API, webhook, and SFTP options give technical teams alternatives for real-time and batch integration.

Who it's for

Shipwell is best suited to shippers and their logistics teams that coordinate multiple freight modes, need carrier and supplier workflows, and want procurement, execution, settlement, and analysis in a common environment. It is a stronger candidate for organizations with integration resources and a defined need for this breadth than for small teams seeking a simple, transparently priced tool.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multimodal planning spans road, rail, ocean, and parcel, supporting shippers with mixed transport operations.
Pros: Freight procurement through audit, settlement, and spend analysis sit within one platform, reducing the need to split those workflows across separate products.
Pros: REST, SOAP, webhooks, API-based ERP exchange, and SFTP batch transfers provide multiple integration approaches.
Pros: Standalone AI Workers and RFP Automation offer a narrower way to use selected capabilities in the Shipwell environment.
Cons: Custom pricing requires a sales conversation and makes upfront cost comparison difficult.
Cons: Dedicated support-portal access is limited to up to two logins per customer, with registration arranged through a Customer Success Manager.

Verdict

Choose Shipwell TMS if your shipping operation needs a connected home for multimodal freight workflows, supplier coordination, and integrations with existing systems. Its main advantage is the breadth of transportation work it brings together; its main reason to look elsewhere is the sales-led custom pricing, particularly if you need to screen costs quickly or want a narrower tool.
