Overview

Pelcro is a subscription and membership platform for publishers and membership organizations that sell access to digital or print content, memberships, and donations. It is a strong fit for teams that need several revenue and access models under one roof. Its breadth is balanced by customer caps and paid-plan features that warrant a close fit check.

Key features

Publishers can set metered or premium-content paywalls, registration walls, and entitlement rules, then configure paywalls without code. Location, device, and behaviour targeting, alongside A/B testing and analytics, give teams ways to tune access offers. That makes Pelcro more compelling for publishers actively refining conversion than for organizations seeking only a basic subscription checkout.

Digital and print subscriptions support monthly, annual, and custom recurring cycles. Membership tiers and one-time or recurring donations share the checkout flow, while group licenses add seat provisioning and reassignment for teams, schools, and organizations. The range suits publishers and associations with both individual and institutional customers, though the specific customer cap may limit a fast-growing operation.

Integrations include Stripe, PayPal, Tap Payments, WorldPay, Cybersource, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, WordPress, and Zapier. Open API and Core API resources, a JavaScript SDK, and webhooks give developers options for custom connections and event notifications. Pelcro says it undergoes annual independent SOC 2 audits and has completed a SOC 2 Type II audit covering Security and Availability. Stripe Elements keeps card details in Stripe-hosted fields rather than Pelcro or customer servers.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed monthly, and covers 100 customers. It offers a low-commitment starting point, but the small cap makes it better for evaluation or a modest audience than for an established publisher.

Advanced costs 450.00 USD per month, billed $450 Per Month, for up to 2,000 customers. It includes a $100 signup credit, $5.63 AI credits/mo, APIs and webhooks, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and an unbranded interface. This is the entry paid tier for teams needing developer access and a branded customer experience, but its customer limit sets a clear ceiling.

Professional costs 800.00 USD per month, billed $800 Per Month, for up to 5,000 customers. It includes a $100 signup credit, $10 AI credits/mo, group subscriptions, tax management, and accounting reports. Those additions make it the more natural fit for organizations selling group access or needing the listed tax and reporting capabilities; the higher price buys a larger cap and those plan-specific features.

Enterprise is custom pricing for 5,000+ customers. Customer caps and starred features vary by plan, so teams should confirm their required capacity and features with sales. Pelcro says it adds no transaction fees beyond payment processor fees and no setup fees unless customizations, migrations, or integrations are requested.

Platforms

Pelcro supports Android, iOS, web, and API access. Its API resources, JavaScript SDK, and webhooks are relevant for teams integrating subscription events and access logic into an existing stack.

Who it's for

Pelcro says it serves media companies, magazines, newspapers, B2B publications, nonprofits, and professional associations across North America and Europe. It fits teams combining content subscriptions with memberships, donations, or group licenses. A team that needs a single narrow payment flow or cannot work within the plan caps should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: Subscriptions, membership tiers, donations, paywalls, and group licenses share one platform, reducing the need to manage distinct access models separately.
Pro: Targeting, A/B testing, and analytics support paywall optimization rather than just access enforcement.
Pro: APIs, SDK, and webhooks provide integration routes, while Stripe Elements keeps card data out of Pelcro and customer servers.
Con: Free is capped at 100 customers, and the paid tiers cap at 2,000 and 5,000 customers before Enterprise.
Con: Customizations, migrations, or integrations can incur setup fees, and plan-specific feature availability needs confirmation.

Verdict

Choose Pelcro if your publishing or membership operation needs configurable paywalls alongside subscriptions, donations, and group access, and its customer caps fit your audience. Its strongest advantage is the combination of access models and developer tools; look elsewhere if the plan caps or potential custom-work charges do not fit your growth and budget.
