Overview

Automation Anywhere Document Automation is an intelligent document processing product that extracts and validates information before carrying it into business workflows. It is best suited to teams already using Automation Anywhere or other connected business applications; its broad document coverage is a strength, while business pricing requires a sales conversation.

It handles varied documents, from invoices and contracts to spreadsheets, medical reports, and tax forms, including content with handwriting, barcodes, and tables. Natural language processing, computer vision, generative AI, and machine learning support classification, extraction, and validation. That range is useful when incoming material is not confined to uniform forms, though the product’s practical fit depends on how well its workflow connections match a team’s existing stack.

Key features

Document processing: Classification, extraction, and validation cover emails, contracts, invoices, spreadsheets, purchase orders, medical reports, tax forms, and other documents. Support for handwriting, barcodes, and tables broadens the range beyond straightforward typed fields.
Workflow connection: Automation Co-Pilot can place and validate extracted data within existing applications. Human approvals and workflow routing let teams connect document handling to review and subsequent work rather than treating extraction as a standalone step.
Integrations and APIs: Named integrations include Salesforce, SAP BAPI, ServiceNow, Workday, Google Drive, Microsoft 365, OpenAI, and Azure Cognitive Services. REST and SOAP support gives teams another route to connect systems, although API availability alone does not establish how much implementation a particular workflow will need.
Scale and security: Automation Anywhere says its Cloud Extraction Service handles large-scale extraction up to five times faster. Data at rest is encrypted with AES-256, communications use SSL/TLS, and the platform lists SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HITRUST, and ISO 22301 certifications. The speed claim is specific to that service, not a promise for every document workload.
Wider automation capabilities: The platform includes scheduled runs, task clustering, automation opportunities, and task-level maps, alongside workflow automation. These capabilities make it relevant to teams considering document processing as part of a broader automation program.

Pricing

Community Edition — 0.00 USD per free. Document Automation is included for eligible small businesses, with a limit of five machines and 100 pages per month. That is a meaningful way for qualifying smaller teams to start without a subscription charge, but the page quota and machine cap make it unsuitable as a default for sustained, higher-volume business processing.

Business plans — custom pricing. Prospective business buyers are directed to book a demo or contact Automation Anywhere. This is the route for teams whose volume or needs exceed Community Edition, but it means buyers must engage with sales to establish cost rather than compare a published business price. Technical support plans are offered for business requirements; Community Edition users have community support.

Platforms

The product is listed for API, macOS, web, and Windows. Desktop platform support includes Windows 10 and Windows 11, plus Citrix VDI on Windows Server 2016. That makes Windows desktop environments explicit targets, while the broader platform list gives teams additional integration surfaces to consider. Capture uses a desktop agent.

Who it's for

Document Automation is a stronger fit for finance, banking, healthcare, human resources, logistics, and manufacturing teams that need to move document data into business workflows and applications. Its support for approvals, routing, and validation is relevant where extracted information needs review before it is used. Teams with highly standardized, low-volume needs may find Community Edition adequate if they qualify; organizations processing beyond 100 pages a month or using more than five machines will need a business arrangement.

It is less compelling for buyers who need predictable public business pricing before evaluating a product, or whose stack is not served by its named integrations and API options. Automation Anywhere was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in San Jose, California, USA; its platform also includes capabilities for non-IT departments, an employee portal, service catalog, knowledge base, and asset management.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad document coverage, including handwriting, barcodes, and tables, suits workflows that receive more than clean, standardized forms.
Pro: Extraction can connect to validation, approvals, routing, and existing applications, keeping the document step attached to downstream work.
Pro: REST and SOAP support plus integrations spanning business applications and cloud services give teams multiple stated integration paths.
Con: Community Edition is capped at 100 pages per month and five machines, so it is a constrained option for small businesses with growing volume.
Con: Business pricing is custom, requiring contact with the company before buyers can assess the commercial fit.

Verdict

Choose Automation Anywhere Document Automation when varied business documents need to be classified, checked, and routed into workflows connected to the applications a team already runs. Its strongest case is the combination of broad document handling and workflow integration. Look elsewhere if public business pricing is essential to shortlisting, or if the Community Edition’s 100-page monthly limit and five-machine cap are too restrictive and a custom-priced business plan is not a fit.
