Overview

RouteNote reviews uploads before sending approved releases to partner stores. It says its network spans more than 50 platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Facebook, SoundCloud and Deezer. Artists and labels can choose destinations, pricing tiers and countries, a useful degree of control for releases aimed at particular markets.

After approval, delivery to selected stores takes place within 24 hours, excluding weekends. That is not the same as going live: most stores publish within 14 days, and some take up to 28. RouteNote can also send existing releases to new partner stores at no extra cost; users who want to opt out must contact support.

Key features

Revenue and release management

Account holders can split release revenue, making collaboration easier to administer. On Free, the split is calculated after RouteNote's 15% share. Publishing administration is also included among its services, and payouts are monthly.

YouTube and mobile

RouteNote says releases can be submitted to its YouTube Content ID system so their audio can be monetized when it appears in videos. The mobile app provides access to earnings, statistics, discography and support contacts; the iOS app also supports release uploads. Android and iOS access complement the web service, though uploading is specified only for iOS.

Premium insights and support

Premium includes fast-track moderation, no lock-in, 90 days of Trends data and fan-location insights. RouteNote also says it provides 24/7 email and ticket support. One-time passcodes sent to the linked email address verify sensitive account changes.

Pricing

RouteNote combines a free revenue-share plan with per-release Premium charges. The choice depends on whether avoiding upfront costs or retaining all streaming and download revenue matters more.

Plan	Price	What it means
Free	0.00 USD per free	No upfront distribution fee; keep 85% of net revenue. The alternative plan description says Free is forever and includes unlimited artists, unlimited uploads and access to all services.
Premium Single	10.00 USD per once	One track; keep 100% of streaming and download revenue.
Premium EP	20.00 USD per once	Two to six tracks; keep 100% of streaming and download revenue.
Premium Album	30.00 USD per once	Seven to 18 tracks; keep 100% of streaming and download revenue.
Premium Extended Album	45.00 USD per once	19 or more tracks; keep 100% of streaming and download revenue.
Premium renewal	9.99 USD per year	Annual fee per release for storage, administration and maintenance; the first annual renewal starts the following year.
All Access	Custom pricing	Custom pricing option.

Free suits artists who prefer no upfront fee and accept RouteNote's share. Premium is the more direct fit for releases expected to earn enough that keeping the full streaming and download revenue justifies the initial charge and recurring 9.99 USD per year per release. Those annual fees can accumulate across a catalogue. Premium also adds faster moderation and audience insights, while the free option gives up the 15% share rather than charging per release.

Platforms

RouteNote is available on web, Android and iOS. Its mobile app is useful for checking earnings and statistics on the go; release uploads are supported on iOS.

Who it's for

RouteNote fits artists and labels who want to choose stores, pricing and territories rather than surrendering those decisions to a default distribution setup. The free route lowers the barrier to distributing a release, and Premium gives higher-earning releases a path to retain all streaming and download revenue. It is less compelling for users who want to avoid ongoing per-release fees or do not need these controls.

Pros and cons

Pros

Store, pricing-tier and territory selection gives artists control over each release's distribution footprint.
Free distribution has no upfront fee, with unlimited artists and uploads in the plan description.
Premium lets artists keep 100% of streaming and download revenue and adds fast-track moderation and 90 days of audience insights.
Monthly payouts, revenue splits, mobile earnings access and YouTube Content ID cover useful parts of release administration.

Cons

Free retains 15% of net revenue, which becomes a meaningful trade-off as releases earn more.
Premium carries a 9.99 USD annual renewal fee per release from the following year, so maintaining a catalogue has recurring costs.
Store publication can take up to 28 days even after RouteNote delivers an approved release.
Uploading through the mobile app is supported on iOS, not specified for Android.

Alternatives

Consider FreshTunes if a free plan for one artist is a better fit and its stated 20% commission on YouTube Content ID, songwriter royalties and UGC platforms is acceptable; it also specifies support up to 10 days and payouts up to 30 days.

ONErpm is another free option with no registration, annual or upload fees, earning a percentage of revenue from plays, views and downloads; consider it if unlimited audio and video uploads suit your distribution needs.

Choose UnitedMasters if a free tier with royalty splits and a $20 minimum cash-out suits you, or if its $19.99/year DEBUT+ plan better matches your release needs.

Indiefy is a freemium alternative with a free plan.

NotaDist is a freemium alternative with a free plan.

7Days Digital is a freemium alternative with a free plan.

EmuBands is a freemium alternative with a free plan.

ReverbNation is a freemium alternative with a free plan.

Verdict

RouteNote is a strong fit for independent artists and labels that value control over stores and territories and want a choice between free distribution and per-release Premium. Its main reason to choose it is that flexibility, backed by broad store reach and revenue tools. Look elsewhere if annual per-release renewals are a poor fit or if Free's 15% share would cost more than paying upfront.
