Overview

Cloudify uses YAML or JSON to model composite services that span its own services and other orchestration domains. Cloudify Manager maintains blueprints and deployments, runs workflows, and displays application topology, metrics, and logs. That combination is useful when teams need to coordinate a service as a whole rather than manage each infrastructure component independently.

Support for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack, alongside distributed edge resources, gives Cloudify a broad remit. Policy as code, drift detection, resource import, and support for both state management modes add useful infrastructure-management capabilities. The tradeoff is scope: teams looking only for a focused Kubernetes platform may find this orchestration model broader than they need.

Key features

Service modeling and workflows: The composition DSL models services across Cloudify and other orchestration domains, and Manager executes workflows. This is a good fit for deployments with dependencies crossing infrastructure boundaries.
Integrations: Official plugins cover Docker, Helm, Kubernetes, and Terraform. Documented integrations also include AWS, Azure, Ansible, and Jenkins, while Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI integrations connect Cloudify to CI/CD pipelines. This breadth helps teams connect familiar tools, though the split between official plugins and documented integrations is worth considering when standardizing support.
Operational visibility: Manager presents topology, metrics, and logs alongside blueprint and deployment management. Teams can use these views to understand deployed applications within the same system that runs their workflows.
Security and control: Cloudify describes secret storage, encryption for internal communications, multi-tenancy, and role-based access control. Its 6.2 release notes state ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certification. However, users/groups/tenants, RBAC, AD/Okta/SAML, snapshots, and high availability appear in the comparison matrix for Premium and SaaS, not Community. Community therefore does not offer the same listed administrative and availability controls.
Deployment and CLI options: Community and Premium can run in a Docker container, VM, or Kubernetes using a Helm chart; SaaS is hosted. The CLI installation options include Linux and Mac binaries, a Windows EXE, a Python package, and Docker, which gives teams several ways to fit command-line access into their environment.

Pricing

Cloudify uses a freemium model, but the free options carry setup and infrastructure requirements. Cloudify Community costs 0.00 USD per free with no time limit. It requires Docker or VM setup, and running workloads requires access to a cloud provider. It is the sensible starting point for teams that can operate the deployment themselves and do not need the controls reserved for Premium and SaaS.

Cloudify Premium trial costs 0.00 USD per free for a 60-day trial. It requires Docker setup and access to a cloud provider for workloads. The trial also requires a valid activation license; functionality stops when that license expires. This makes it a time-limited way to evaluate Premium, not a free plan for ongoing use.

Cloudify as a Service trial requires a trial account request, is hosted, and still requires access to a cloud provider to run workloads. Its price is custom pricing. Teams that prefer a hosted service can request a trial, but should not assume the trial establishes an ongoing price.

Platforms

Cloudify lists API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows support. Its deployment options span Docker, VM, and Kubernetes with a Helm chart for Community and Premium, plus hosted SaaS. CLI options cover Linux, Mac, and Windows as well as Python and Docker. This range suits teams with mixed operating environments, while the self-hosted editions still require teams to provide the setup and cloud access needed to run workloads.

Who it's for

Cloudify is a strong candidate for organizations transitioning to public cloud or cloud-native architecture that need automation across infrastructure and edge resources. It is particularly relevant when service components span more than one orchestration domain, or when policy, drift detection, and importing existing resources matter. Teams that mainly need Kubernetes management, or that cannot take on self-hosting and activation requirements during evaluation, should weigh more focused or hosted alternatives.

Pros and cons

Pro: The DSL and workflow engine coordinate composite services across Cloudify and other orchestration domains, making the platform relevant to deployments that cross infrastructure boundaries.
Pro: Official plugins, documented cloud and automation integrations, and CI/CD integrations offer multiple paths to connect existing tools.
Pro: Community has no time limit, and policy as code, drift detection, and resource import support infrastructure automation beyond initial provisioning.
Con: Community requires a Docker or VM setup and cloud-provider access for workloads, so it is not a zero-operations free service.
Con: Community lacks the comparison matrix's listed identity, tenancy, snapshot, and high-availability features, which may make it a poor fit for teams that need those controls.
Con: The Premium trial is only 60 days and depends on a valid activation license; evaluation access ends when that license expires.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Multi-Cloud Management Software, Infrastructure as Code Tools, Cloud Automation Software, Cloud Management Software, and Cloud Orchestration Software.

Apache CloudStack is an open-source IaaS cloud option with a 0.00 USD per free plan; choose it when IaaS cloud software is the priority rather than Cloudify's cross-domain service orchestration.
Google Config Sync is included with Google Kubernetes Engine at 0.00 USD per free, with a GKE-supported cluster version and fleet registration required. It is the more direct option when the intended setting is a qualifying GKE cluster.
Kubermatic Kubernetes Platform offers an Apache License 2.0 Community Edition at 0.00 USD per free and a custom-priced Enterprise Edition. Consider it when a Kubernetes platform is the central requirement.
KubeSphere describes its Community Edition as an enterprise-grade open-source Kubernetes container platform; consider it when that platform focus is a closer fit.
Qstack offers a free 基础版 and a 专业版 at 9999.00 CNY per year; consider it when its IDC-oriented plans are a better match for the operation.
OpenNebula offers a Community Edition with the complete core platform and public open-source releases, plus an Enterprise Subscription; consider it when that platform's community distribution is preferable.
Xynvera is another option to consider.
Control Plane has monthly usage-based pricing with no contracts, minimums, or lock-ins; consider it when that billing structure is a priority.

Verdict

Choose Cloudify if your organization needs to model and automate services across cloud, infrastructure, and edge domains, and can support the deployment and access controls that fit its chosen plan. Its strongest case is the combination of service composition, workflow execution, and integrations across existing systems. Look elsewhere if you need Community to include Premium's listed identity and availability controls, or if you want a narrowly focused Kubernetes platform instead of broad orchestration.
