Overview

Base44 generates an app’s code, structure, design and logic from natural-language prompts, then sets up authentication, logins, data storage and role-based permissions. That integrated backend can spare a small team from assembling separate services before it can ship a working application.

Hosting, analytics and custom domains are part of the platform; published apps are live and shareable. Users retain ownership of their code, data and users, and can export the full source through two-way GitHub sync. This pairing of managed deployment with source access is useful for teams that want a fast start without treating the platform as a closed box.

Key features

Building, backend and deployment

Prompt-driven generation lowers the barrier to creating an app, while automatic setup of accounts, storage and permissions covers core backend needs. The result is a broad starting point rather than just a page-design tool. Message and integration credits remain finite, however, so frequent revisions or activity-heavy apps may push users toward a higher plan.

Agents and integrations

Superagents can automate workflows, manage data and connect with tools. One-click connectors include Salesforce, Notion, Slack, HubSpot, LinkedIn, TikTok, Discord, Gmail and Google Workspace services. Manual API integrations cover Monday.com, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Twilio, Resend and Zapier; custom integrations can reach any service with an API using the user’s own credentials. This range helps teams connect existing services, though integration credits deserve attention where workflows run often.

Security and control

Base44 states that it has SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification and supports GDPR requirements. It encrypts data in transit with TLS 1.2 or later and at rest with AES-256, including backups. App-level scans check for vulnerable dependencies, insecure code patterns, exposed secrets, missing login checks and weak data-access rules, and offer AI fixes. Selectable data-residency regions, an enterprise training-data opt-out and a GDPR deletion flow add controls for organizations with data-handling requirements. These safeguards are useful, but teams should still assess whether the platform’s controls match their own policies.

Pricing

The free tier costs 0.00 USD per free and includes 25 message credits and 100 integration credits per month, up to five apps, authentication, database functionality and analytics. It is a practical way to explore the builder, but its small monthly allowances constrain continued development and connected usage.

Starter costs 16.00 USD per month, billed annually. It raises the allowance to 100 message credits and 2,000 integration credits per month, removes the app count limit, and adds in-app code edits and domain connection. It fits a solo builder or small project that needs a custom domain, but has no GitHub integration.

Builder costs 40.00 USD per month, billed annually, with 250 message credits and 10,000 integration credits per month, unlimited apps, in-app code edits, domain connection and GitHub integration. It is the more suitable step for builders who want source-workflow access and more room for connected apps.

Pro costs 80.00 USD per month, billed annually. Its 500 message credits and 20,000 integration credits per month come with unlimited apps, AI model selection, domain connection and GitHub integration. Choose it when model choice and higher allowances justify the added cost; otherwise Builder covers the same listed core editing and GitHub capabilities for less.

Elite costs 160.00 USD per month, billed annually, and provides 1,200 message credits and 50,000 integration credits per month, unlimited apps, AI model selection, domain connection, GitHub integration and premium support. It is aimed at heavier usage or teams that value that support tier. Enterprise has custom pricing, custom credits, a dedicated architect, SSO, advanced security controls and an account team.

Platforms

Base44 supports web apps and has API, Android and iOS platform coverage, but it does not offer mobile apps. Its web-first deployment and custom-domain support suit browser-based products; teams whose requirement is a native mobile app should look elsewhere.

Who it's for

Base44 is strongest for founders, internal-tool builders and small teams that want to describe an application, get backend foundations included, connect existing services and publish without first managing hosting. Source export and GitHub sync also make it more suitable than a purely hosted black box for teams that want access to their code. It is a weaker fit for mobile-first products or projects whose expected usage outgrows the credit allowances of lower plans.

Pros and cons

Integrated app stack: generation, authentication, storage, permissions, hosting and analytics sit together, reducing the separate setup a builder must coordinate.
Flexible connectivity: named one-click and manual connectors, plus custom API integrations, can bridge a range of existing tools.
Source ownership and export: full-source export through two-way GitHub sync gives teams a path to work with their code beyond prompt-driven building.
Usage ceilings: monthly message and integration credits are capped on every listed paid tier, so sustained work can require a more expensive plan.
No mobile apps: the platform’s web-first orientation rules it out for teams that need a mobile app offering.

Alternatives

Choose Retool if its free tier or a $10.00 USD per month Team plan better suits your budget; its platform coverage also includes self-hosted deployment. Google AppSheet is a lower-cost option when per-user pricing works for the team: Starter is 5.00 USD per month per user and includes five AppSheet databases with 2,500 rows per database. Consider Adalo for a free building-and-testing tier that includes 500 records per app, one app editor and unlimited test apps.

Bubble is another freemium alternative. Emergent offers a free tier with 10 monthly credits, web and mobile experiences, and one-click LLM integration. Replit may suit builders seeking a broader coding environment; its free Starter tier includes daily usage, one live project and one background task at a time. UI Bakery offers a free tier with unlimited apps and data-source connections. Microsoft PowerPoint is also an alternative.

Verdict

Choose Base44 if you want a web-first app builder that combines prompt-based creation, backend setup, integrations, hosting and source export. The central trade-off is credit-limited usage across the plans, with mobile apps outside its offer; teams that need mobile delivery or predictable high-volume work should compare alternatives before committing.
