Overview

Geekbot schedules check-ins, gathers updates and shares reports on progress and blockers. Notifications can follow participants’ local time zones, and each person can personalize reporting times. That makes the workflow adaptable for distributed teams, while still relying on people to respond to prompts.

Polls and surveys extend the product beyond status updates. Teams can schedule polls, offer anonymous or multiple voting, and view results. Ask Geekbot answers natural-language questions using reports and poll or survey votes, so it is suited to finding answers in captured team activity rather than acting as a general-purpose assistant.

Key features

Check-ins and reporting

Recurring schedules, agenda templates, action-item and decision tracking, and outcome reporting support an ongoing team process. Reports help teams review updates and blockers; Starter users get only three months of reporting history, while paid plans include unlimited history. Teams that need to refer to older updates will need a paid plan.

Polls, surveys and AI

Poll scheduling, anonymous voting, multiple-vote options and visualized results make Geekbot useful for collecting team input alongside standups. AI-generated poll options can help prepare a poll, while Ask Geekbot draws answers from the team’s reports and votes. These features are most relevant when the team already captures its work in Geekbot.

Integrations, exports and security

Slack and Microsoft Teams are the core collaboration integrations. Optional integrations listed for Geekbot’s AI help include Google Calendar, Jira, Asana, GitLab and GitHub. The Basic plan includes API access and CSV exports, and reports can be exported as CSV—useful for teams that need to carry updates into other workflows.

Geekbot says it encrypts data in transit and at rest with TLS, supports data removal on request, and conducts routine third-party audits and testing. It is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified and says it complies with applicable GDPR, UK-GDPR, CCPA and PCI requirements.

Pricing

Geekbot has a free Starter plan for up to 10 users. Teams with more than 10 active participants need to upgrade, and Starter’s reporting history is limited to three months. That makes it a practical entry point for a small team, but not a durable free option for a growing group or one that needs older reports.

Basic — Standups costs 2.50 USD per month, billed $ 2.5 /participant/month on annual billing or $3 per participant/month on monthly billing. Charges apply to each active standup participant. This plan suits teams that need recurring standups beyond the Starter ceiling, but the per-participant basis makes the total rise with participation.

Basic — Polls & Surveys costs 0.75 USD per month, billed $ 0.75 /respondent on annual billing or $1 per respondent/month on monthly billing. It charges per unique respondent per month, with no charge in a month without polls. That structure suits occasional polling better than a fixed monthly fee would, while active polling costs scale with respondents.

Both Basic plans offer a free 30-day trial. Enterprise has custom pricing and includes volume discounts, enterprise ecosystem integration, enhanced data storage, managed cloud services and custom security assessments. It also adds priority support with faster responses and around-the-clock assistance, a dedicated account manager and onboarding, making it the tier for organizations needing those services rather than a published per-user price.

Platforms

Geekbot is available as an API and on the web, with its standup, polling and survey workflows operating through Slack and Microsoft Teams. Teams centered on either collaboration platform can keep check-ins there; those seeking a broader standalone client footprint should compare alternatives.

Who it's for

Geekbot describes its audience as engineering leads, product owners, CEOs and founders, operations officers, and sales and marketing managers. It fits teams in those roles that want asynchronous progress updates, blocker reporting or team polling without requiring a shared meeting time. It is less compelling for teams that do not use Slack or Microsoft Teams, or that need free access beyond 10 active participants.

Pros and cons

Pros: Time-zone-aware notifications and personalized reporting times accommodate distributed teams.
Pros: Standups, polling, survey results and questions over captured team activity sit within one workflow.
Pros: API access and CSV exports on Basic support taking reports into other processes.
Cons: Starter stops at 10 users and retains only three months of reporting history.
Cons: Standup charges are per active participant, and polling charges are per unique respondent in months with polls.
Cons: Its core workflows depend on Slack or Microsoft Teams, limiting its fit for teams organized around other collaboration tools.

Alternatives

For a broader meeting-management tool, compare Meeting Management Software. Teams focused specifically on recurring daily updates can browse Daily Standup Software, while teams prioritizing questionnaires can compare Survey Software.

Choose Fellow if you want a freemium option spanning Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web, API and extension platforms; its free plan includes five lifetime AI notes per user. Decidiq is a free option with API, self-hosted and web platforms. Decisions is a paid product with a free plan and low-code design studio capabilities on Foundation.

Diligent Audit is another alternative. AgreeDo offers a freemium choice with Android, iOS, macOS, web and Windows support; its Basic plan allows four meetings per month, three participants per meeting and one attachment per meeting. Decisions has a free plan with 100 AI credits per month and a Basic plan priced at 8.00 USD per month, billed annually, with 200 AI credits per month.

Teams that value open-source software can consider Parabol, which says its code is open source and scrutinized by a developer community. 4Minitz is a free, open-source, self-hosted option under the MIT License.

Verdict

Geekbot is a strong fit for distributed teams already working in Slack or Microsoft Teams that want asynchronous standups, reporting and polling together. The main reason to choose it is the combination of time-zone-aware check-ins and tools for gathering and querying team responses. Look elsewhere if the 10-user free ceiling, limited Starter history or participant-based paid charges do not suit the team’s size and usage.
