Overview

Bounce Metronome Pro is a visual metronome built for musicians who need more than a steady pulse, especially when practicing complex rhythms or planned tempo changes. Its depth is compelling, but platform caveats and the restricted behavior after the trial make it important to confirm compatibility and the unlock terms before relying on it.

Key features

Pro handles odd and additive time signatures, arbitrary subdivisions, swing, drum rudiments, polyrhythms and rare rhythms. That breadth suits players working through demanding rhythmic material; it is unnecessary complexity for anyone who only needs a basic click. Tap tempo, fractional BPM and an unlimited tempo range give precise control, while gradual tempo changes, silent intervals, speed drills and automatic tempo or rhythm switching support structured practice.

Bouncing visuals, conducting patterns and beat and sub-beat counts provide alternatives to listening for the pulse, and silent metronome mode can help when sound is not practical. Audio controls include beat and subdivision accents, rhythm auto-accents, selectable instruments, chord accompaniment and stereo panning. MIDI output supports use with VSTi and sound fonts, making Pro more suitable for musicians incorporating a metronome into a software instrument setup than a standalone click alone. The maker also describes accessibility features for blind, visually impaired and deaf musicians.

The maker says the downloadable programs collect no data, contain no spyware or ads, and connect to the internet only when requested. Payment agents handle card details, which the maker says it does not see. Email support, tutorials, a wiki and a forum are offered, alongside a no-quibbles money-back guarantee.

Pricing

The download includes a fully featured 30-day Pro trial, which users can start when they choose. After it ends, Basic and Pro animations pause every few seconds, and audio times out after a few minutes unless an unlock key is purchased. That is a substantial practical limit for continued practice, so treat the trial as an evaluation period rather than an ongoing free version.

Free Beginner’s Bounce Metronome: Free. Common beginner time signatures, up to four subdivisions and a basic drum machine make this the sensible starting point for simpler practice, but it gives up Pro’s extensive rhythm and tempo controls.
Bounce Metronome Lite: 9.99 USD per once. A lower-cost Windows desktop option, also usable on Linux via Wine. It costs less than Pro, but the plan description does not establish which specific Pro tools it includes.
Bounce Metronome Pro: 29.99 USD per once. The fit for players who need the full range of rhythm, tempo, visual, audio and MIDI capabilities on a supported setup.

The maker advertises a refund guarantee, but the post-trial limits still make it worth confirming the unlock arrangement before purchase.

Platforms

The current download is for Windows and can run on Linux using Wine. The older 32-bit Mac beta does not run on macOS High Sierra or later, so this is a poor choice for Mac users on those systems. Although the product’s platform coverage includes Linux, macOS and Windows, the practical compatibility caveat is decisive: Windows is the straightforward option, Linux requires Wine, and the older Mac build is not viable on modern macOS.

Who it's for

Choose Bounce Metronome Pro if you practice unusual meters, polyrhythms or intricate subdivisions, need tempo progression tools, or want visual and MIDI options alongside an audible click. It is less compelling for players who need only a basic metronome, or who require a reliable native Mac version.

Pros and cons

Pro: A wide range of rhythms and tempo controls supports focused work beyond conventional time signatures and fixed tempos.
Pro: Visual cues, silent mode, detailed audio options and MIDI output accommodate different practice and instrument setups.
Pro: The full-featured 30-day trial lets users evaluate Pro before paying.
Con: After the trial, animations pause and audio times out without an unlock key, sharply limiting continued use.
Con: The current download is Windows-focused; Linux depends on Wine and the older Mac beta does not work on macOS High Sierra or later.

Alternatives

For a broader set of metronome options, browse Metronome Apps. Consider MagicBPM if Android, iOS, Mac or web access matters more than Bounce’s detailed desktop rhythm controls; its core app is free, with ads on iPhone and Android and an ad-free Mac app. Metronome Beats is another free option across Android, iOS, Mac and web, with ads and in-app purchases; its iOS Pro purchase is 8.99 USD per once and supports saving presets and setting tempo.

Choose PolyMetronome if Android, iOS or web access and its named Poly, Alphabet and Score modes, practice log and advanced settings better match your needs. Pro Metronome offers a free ad-free basic version on Android and iOS, plus paid plans including a 3.99 USD per once Pro version. The Metronome by Soundbrenner is worth considering for its free core app on Android, iOS and Mac.

True Metronome has a free Android, iOS, Mac and web plan with 20–400 BPM, all time signatures, one bell accent and background playback. Metronome Time is a free option on Android, iOS and web, with all current features included. For Apple-device users willing to pay, Metronomics costs 4.99 USD per once and lists compatibility with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision and Apple Watch.

Verdict

Bounce Metronome Pro is the right pick for musicians who need unusually deep rhythm and tempo control, with visual cues, varied audio and MIDI in one metronome. Its main reason to choose it is that breadth; its main reasons to look elsewhere are the limited post-trial behavior and the lack of a usable current Mac build.
