Overview

The application brings enterprise and external data into a demand-planning workflow, then supports forecasts at multiple levels and horizons. It is designed to reconcile top-down and bottom-up views without manual tuning, while keeping forecast rationale available for review. That makes it a stronger fit for cross-functional planning and auditability than for teams seeking a lightweight standalone forecasting tool.

C3 AI was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Redwood City, California. Demand Planning is a paid product with custom pricing.

Key features

Forecasting across demand patterns

Continuously learning AI models address multiple time horizons, new products, and sparse or intermittent demand. Reconciling forecasts from leadership targets down to granular plans without manual tuning can reduce friction between strategic and operational planning. Teams that need transparent control over every adjustment may still want to assess how the automated reconciliation fits their process.

Connected planning data

The application unifies ERP and other enterprise data with external inputs such as weather, market indices, and geopolitical events. Bi-directional integration with ERP and planning systems supports both automated and human-in-the-loop workflows, making it relevant where plans must connect to existing systems rather than remain isolated in a forecasting workspace.

Explainability and scenarios

Forecasts include model rationale and SHAP feature drivers in an evidence package, supporting explainability and auditability. Intelligent agents help planners explore what-if scenarios by detecting anomalies and incorporating news feeds, macroeconomic indices, and market events. These capabilities are useful when teams need to understand why a forecast changed and consider emerging conditions, not just produce a number.

Pricing

C3 AI Demand Planning has custom pricing; customers are directed to request a demo. No separate lower-cost plan or free tier is offered in the product plan, so buyers should evaluate the full application against their deployment, integration, and planning needs rather than expect a self-serve entry point.

Platforms

The product is available through API, web, and self-hosted deployment. C3 AI applications can run in C3 AI-managed or customer-managed cloud environments on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. The platform supports role-based access control, single sign-on through SAML 2.0 or OIDC, and OAuth 2.0 authorization. Customers can contact the Support Portal or use the 24/7 urgent support line through their contract or support@c3.ai.

Who it's for

Demand planners and business leaders are the stated users, with finance, operations, and compliance teams aligned around shared forecasts. It is a plausible fit for organizations that already depend on ERP and planning systems and need collaborative, driver-based demand planning with model deployment, version control, workflow automation, and hosted notebooks. Teams without enterprise data integration needs may find the deployment and commercial model more than they require.

Pros and cons

Pros: Forecasting spans new products and intermittent demand, addressing patterns that can be difficult to plan from historical volumes alone.
Pros: Bi-directional ERP and planning integration supports both automated updates and human review within existing workflows.
Pros: SHAP drivers and forecast rationale provide a concrete basis for examining model outputs and supporting auditability.
Cons: Custom pricing and a demo-led buying path give smaller teams no published self-serve option to assess cost.
Cons: The range of cloud deployment and integration choices means buyers need to verify fit with their own environment before committing.

Alternatives

For a broader planning platform with pricing tailored to company size, user count, and selected modules, consider Planful. If a 14-day trial and private workspace are useful for evaluation, Pigment offers those alongside some limited features and capabilities, with no credit card required. Teams prioritizing inventory-volume pricing and unlimited users at no extra cost should consider Inventory Planner.

Cube is another paid API and web platform, with Bronze offering full platform access, custom roles, and unlimited dimensions and users. RELEX Solutions is another paid alternative. Workday Adaptive Planning has a 30-day trial and broad platform support. WorkForce Software Labor Forecasting is another paid option. Workforce.com offers paid plans including scheduling, HR, and payroll in its All-in-One plan.

Verdict

C3 AI Demand Planning is a strong candidate for enterprises that need adaptive forecasts connected to ERP and planning workflows, with scenario analysis and explainable model outputs for cross-functional review. Choose it when those capabilities justify a custom-priced enterprise deployment; look elsewhere if you need published pricing or a quick, self-serve trial.
