Overview

Founded in 2002, CacheFly serves CDN and multi-CDN buyers as well as businesses in video on demand, media and entertainment, gaming, and ad tech. The company says its network spans more than 75 points of presence across seven continents. That reach and workload focus make it a candidate for globally distributed content, while the tier structure asks buyers to match their needs to fixed domain, origin, and bandwidth allowances.

Key features

Programmable delivery and cache control

EdgeControl covers caching, headers, routing, authentication, and request behavior at the edge. Adoption provides a sandbox; Production includes full EdgeControl. That distinction gives teams a lower-cost way to start working with controls, but the full feature set sits behind a much higher monthly price.

Dedicated shielding and integrations

Dedicated Shield is a separate cache tier designed to keep content hot without competing for shared cache space. For workloads where consistent cache availability matters, that is a useful architectural option. Adoption also includes full API access and a Terraform provider. CacheFly documents integrations with WordPress CDN Enabler and W3 Total Cache, which gives teams using those plugins a more direct integration path.

Security, governance, and support

Governance includes SSO, role-based access control, audit logs, and compliance packs. Production lists WAF and DDoS as available, rather than including them as unconditional features. CacheFly also provides a GDPR data processing addendum with pre-signed Standard Contractual Clauses and security-measures annexes. Email support from CDN engineers comes with every feature tier; paid support plans add defined Severity 0 response targets and, at higher levels, round-the-clock coverage.

Pricing

CacheFly has a free developer account at 0.00 USD per free, capped at 100 GB and one domain. It can suit evaluation or a small development use, but that bandwidth cap is far below the 10 TB monthly allowance on each paid feature tier.

Adoption — 299.00 USD per month: Three domains, five origins, 10 TB per month, IPv6, HTTP/3, SSL, URL cache purge, EdgeControl sandbox, full API access, Terraform provider, and email support from CDN engineers. This is the practical entry point for teams that need API-driven delivery and basic edge experimentation. It does not include full EdgeControl.
Production — 1499.00 USD per month: 50 domains, 10 origins, 10 TB per month, full EdgeControl, WebSockets up to 10K concurrent, full analytics and log shipping, and email support from CDN engineers. WAF and DDoS are available. This tier fits teams needing broader edge controls and observability, but costs substantially more than Adoption without increasing the included bandwidth.
Governance — 3499.00 USD per month: Unlimited domains and origins, 10 TB per month, SSO, RBAC, audit logs, sub-second TTL, and email support from CDN engineers. Compliance packs, PNI, and private nodes are available. It is the clearest fit for organizations that need governance and scale across domains and origins, though its bandwidth allowance remains 10 TB.

Support can be bought separately: Silver support is 995.00 USD per month for same-day Severity 0 response, weekend and holiday coverage, and ticket-based support. Gold support is 2495.00 USD per month for a two-hour Severity 0 response and 24/7 incident coverage. Platinum support has custom pricing and includes a 30-minute Severity 0 response, 24/7, plus Slack and video access, a named escalation chain, quarterly configuration review, and on-demand war rooms. Additional bandwidth commits are sized to a customer's traffic profile, so teams expecting to exceed 10 TB should establish those terms before choosing a tier.

Platforms

CacheFly supports API and web access. Its listed capabilities also include image optimization, origin shielding, video delivery, edge compute, and real-time logs, making it relevant beyond straightforward static-file delivery.

Who it's for

CacheFly is strongest for teams delivering high-traffic media, video, games, or advertising who need configurable edge behavior, dedicated cache shielding, and API or Terraform workflows. Adoption makes sense when a team can work within three domains, five origins, and 10 TB per month. Production is better aligned with broader domain coverage, full EdgeControl, WebSockets, analytics, and log shipping. Governance suits organizations that need identity controls and unlimited domains and origins. A team that needs only a small free allowance or an inexpensive image workflow should compare narrower alternatives before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: EdgeControl spans multiple request and routing controls, with a sandbox on Adoption and full control on Production.
Pros: Adoption includes full API access and a Terraform provider, useful for teams managing CDN configuration in code.
Pros: Dedicated Shield and a network spanning more than 75 points of presence support CacheFly's focus on high-traffic global delivery.
Cons: Every paid feature tier includes 10 TB per month, so higher tiers do not by themselves solve greater bandwidth needs.
Cons: Full EdgeControl and full analytics are on Production at 1499.00 USD per month, a large step up from Adoption.
Cons: The free developer account is limited to 100 GB and one domain, making it a narrow starting point for production workloads.

Alternatives

For a broad CDN comparison, see the CDN Software category. Choose Azion Content Delivery instead if a freemium option with a free trial and a free Hobby plan for personal projects and experimentation better matches the starting workload. Cloudinary is worth considering when its free forever plan, with three users, one account, and 25 monthly credits, fits the need. Fastly Image Optimizer is the more focused option when image requests are the main requirement; its free tier includes 100,000 requests per month.

ImageKit may suit a low-traffic site, app, side project, or test that fits its free plan's monthly limits. Amazon CloudFront offers a free plan with one million requests, 100 GB of data transfer, five WAF rules, and no overage charges, making it a candidate when those caps fit. Uploadcare is another freemium option; its free plan is capped at 1,000 operations, 5 GB of traffic, and 1 GB of storage and is for personal use only. Akamai CDN is an alternative for buyers seeking custom configuration with contact-sales pricing. imgix offers a paid Starter plan at 25.00 USD per month, billed $250/yr, for solo developers or makers.

Verdict

Choose CacheFly if your team needs programmable edge controls, dedicated cache shielding, and API or Terraform access for high-traffic global delivery. Its network and workload focus are compelling, but the 10 TB allowance across paid feature tiers and the jump to 1499.00 USD per month for full EdgeControl make it a poor fit for teams that prioritize low cost or need predictable, larger bandwidth commitments.
