Overview

Camo Studio turns cameras you already own into video sources for calls, streaming, and recording. It is best suited to people who want more control over a camera feed without replacing their camera or rebuilding their app workflow. Its strongest case is the mix of broad camera support, image controls, and virtual-camera compatibility; the 720p free-plan ceiling and device-specific feature availability may narrow its appeal.

Key features

Camera choice and image control

Camo can use phones, built-in cameras, webcams, DSLRs, action cameras, and Continuity Camera connected to a computer. That flexibility helps teams work with existing hardware, including a phone when a dedicated camera is not available. Image tools cover background softening or replacement, lighting correction, LUTs, framing, and AI-powered image analysis, giving users practical ways to shape a feed for calls or content production.

The scene editor combines text, logos, and other overlays, with the option to create scenes or use defaults. Scene composition, background effects, and audio routing are also listed capabilities. This makes Camo relevant to branded presentations and streaming setups, though some features are marked as coming soon on Android or Windows, so platform parity should not be assumed.

App compatibility and privacy

Camo works as a virtual camera in more than 40 apps, including Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Discord, and OBS. That breadth suits users who want one camera setup to serve both meetings and streaming or recording workflows.

Camo says video and audio processing takes place in memory on users’ devices and that video and audio do not leave those devices. Its privacy policy also says it may send device metadata; optional features such as Snap Lenses or Portrait Mode may process necessary face or object data on-device. These points matter for organizations evaluating data handling. Reincubate says its management and senior staff are screened against the UK Government baseline personnel security standard, but that statement is not a substitute for an organization’s own security review.

Pricing

Camo is freemium. The free Camo plan costs 0.00 USD per free and supports up to 720p (HD), with no watermark, ads, or spam. That is a useful way to try the camera workflow, but the resolution cap is a real trade-off for users who need higher-definition output.

Camo Pro has a starting price of $9.99/mo. Annual pricing is selectable, but the checkout did not display a price. Pro supports resolutions up to and including 4K (UHD), can be activated on up to 2 computers, includes priority support, and carries a 30-day money-back guarantee. It fits users who need 4K or value support; the two-computer activation limit may constrain larger teams. A lifetime license is also offered, but its price is not displayed.

Camo Enterprise uses custom pricing, with a quote-based purchase. It adds user management tools, a dedicated account manager, priority expert support, and access to the Enterprise-only Camo SDK, which can integrate Camo functionality into an app or platform for iOS and Android devices. This is the relevant tier for organizations building Camo into their own product or needing management and account support, rather than a simple meeting setup.

Platforms

Camo Studio runs on macOS 12.3 or later and Windows 10 or later. The Camo Camera app supports iOS 15 or later and Android 7.0 or later. The supported desktop platforms are macOS and Windows; check whether the features you need are available on your device, particularly where Android or Windows features are still coming soon.

Who it's for

Camo fits sales and marketing teams that want composed, branded video; educators and creators who need to adapt an existing camera for calls or recordings; and streamers who want scene and image controls alongside compatibility with OBS. It is also worth considering for enterprise teams evaluating a camera SDK for iOS and Android apps. It is less compelling for users satisfied with a 720p feed who do not need its scene controls, or for teams that need more than two Pro computer activations under a single plan.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad camera compatibility. Support for phones, webcams, DSLRs, action cameras, built-in cameras, and Continuity Camera gives users room to work with equipment they already own.
Pro: Works across a wide range of apps. Virtual-camera support in more than 40 applications connects meeting and streaming workflows.
Pro: Useful controls for composed video. Background effects, lighting correction, LUTs, framing, and scene overlays address needs beyond simply selecting a camera.
Con: Free output stops at 720p. Users who need up to 4K must choose Pro.
Con: Pro's activation allowance is limited to two computers. That may not suit teams sharing a larger fleet of workstations.
Con: Feature availability varies by platform. Some features are marked coming soon on Android or Windows, which can complicate mixed-device deployments.

Alternatives

NVIDIA ShadowPlay is a free Windows option, but requires Windows 10 or 11, driver 551.52 or later, and a supported GPU. For a free option across Linux, macOS, and Windows, OBS Studio has no watermarks or usage limitations and can be used commercially.

XSplit Broadcaster is another Windows freemium choice: its free plan allows 720p streaming without a watermark, but caps users at four scenes and does not support simultaneous multistreaming. CutWire Prism offers a free, no-account option on Linux, macOS, and Windows without feature tiers. DeskBroadcast is a macOS alternative with a fully functional forever-free plan that adds a video watermark, or a $79.00 USD one-time Pro license for 3 Macs.

FineCam supports Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows; its free plan includes all features but adds a watermark, while its 1 Month Plan costs 9.95 USD per month and renews automatically. PRISM Live Studio is a freemium alternative available on Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows, with a 9.99 USD monthly Plus plan for up to 6 channels.

Verdict

Camo Studio is a strong fit for people and teams that want to turn existing cameras into polished feeds across meetings, streaming, and recording apps. Its camera breadth, scene editor, and 4K Pro tier are the main reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if 720p is insufficient but Pro’s two-computer limit or undisplayed price terms do not fit, or if the features you need are not yet available on your platform.
