Overview

Cartoonize AI turns photos into cartoon and other stylized images through a web service and API. It suits creators and teams looking for a broad effects library with a choice between recurring credits and credits that do not expire. Its strongest fit is occasional or repeat photo styling; it is not a text-to-image cartoon generator, and API access requires review of a proposed use case and volume.

Key features

The effects library spans 38 styles, from anime, manga, comics and 3D/CGI to traditional art, retro, pixel and portrait effects. That range gives users room to explore distinct visual treatments without switching tools, while the service is specifically built around transforming an uploaded photo. It aims to retain composition and recognizable features as it applies a style.

Uploads support JPEG, JPG, PNG and WEBP up to 24 MB, with a maximum resolution of 4096×4096 pixels. Standard transformations take 15–30 seconds; complex styles can take up to 60 seconds. Multiple images can be processed simultaneously, which is useful for batches, though no fixed batch-size limit is given.

Paid subscriptions and Flex credits include commercial usage rights; the Free plan does not. Subscription credits reset each billing cycle, while Flex credits never expire and are used after time-limited credits. The distinction matters for uneven workloads: subscriptions suit predictable monthly use, while Flex avoids losing unused credits to a cycle reset.

API access is available only after submitting an integration use case and expected volume for review, so teams should not assume they can connect it immediately. NSFW or adult content is prohibited across all plans. The privacy policy says the service collects account and payment details plus cookie-based usage and preference data, and does not share data except when required by law.

Pricing

Cartoonize AI has a free plan and paid options. The entry-level paid price is $15.90/mo (annual), while the listed monthly plans are priced separately. The Free plan lacks commercial usage rights; its generation cap is 200 images/mo. Hobby is the lowest listed subscription, but it offers fewer credits and a shorter history than the higher tiers.

Hobby (monthly): 19.90 USD per month, billed monthly, for 200 credits per month, $0.08/image, no-watermark exports, 30-day history and unlimited running jobs. It fits lighter recurring use; the higher per-image cost and 30-day history are trade-offs.
Basic (monthly): 29.90 USD per month, billed monthly, for 500 credits per month, $0.05/image, the full photo effects library, 100-day history and unlimited running jobs. This is the practical step up for users who need the full library and more monthly capacity.
Plus (monthly): 39.90 USD per month, billed monthly, for 650 credits per month, $0.05/image, the full library, priority queue, 100-day history and unlimited running jobs. It adds priority processing over Basic.
Pro (monthly): 49.90 USD per month, billed monthly, for 800 credits per month at $0.05/image, plus the full library, priority queue, 100-day history and unlimited running jobs. It suits higher-volume monthly use, though it shares the per-image rate and core features with Plus.
Flex credits (250): 39.90 USD one-time payment for 250 credits at $0.16/image; credits never expire. This favors occasional work over a subscription, but has the highest stated per-image cost.
Flex credits (550): 69.90 USD one-time payment for 550 credits at $0.13/image; credits never expire. It offers a lower per-image rate than the 250-credit pack while retaining the no-expiration flexibility.

Yearly Hobby, Basic, Plus and Pro plans provide the same credit amounts and listed features as their monthly counterparts, but have custom pricing. No seat counts are specified, so teams should assess the plans by credit allowance rather than assume multi-seat access. Completed purchases are generally non-refundable, apart from specified cases such as duplicate or unauthorized charges, undelivered credits or verified defects that make the service unusable. Support is reached by email.

Platforms

Cartoonize AI is available on the web and through an API. The API’s review requirement makes the web option the more direct route for individual creators; developers should factor approval into integration planning.

Who it's for

Choose Cartoonize AI if your work starts with photos, you value a large range of stylization categories, and either monthly credits or non-expiring Flex credits suit your workload. It is less suitable for text-prompt image creation, adult content, or teams that need immediate API access without an integration review.

Pros and cons

Pro: 38 effects across varied categories give photo workflows more stylistic choice than a narrowly themed cartoonizer.
Pro: Multiple images can be processed simultaneously, with unlimited running jobs on paid subscriptions.
Pro: Flex credits never expire, making one-time purchases a reasonable fit for sporadic projects.
Con: Free use does not include commercial rights, limiting its suitability for client or business deliverables.
Con: The Free plan’s 200-image monthly cap and the subscription credit resets constrain heavier or irregular use.
Con: API access depends on review, and NSFW or adult content is barred on every plan.

AI Photo Cartoonizer offers a no-sign-up web free tier with per-IP limits and support for uploads up to 2MB, making it an option for small-file trials.
Cartoonize offers a free Basic plan without registration and supports a wider range of operating systems.
GenToon is an alternative for users seeking character-focused generation, with a free tier that includes 150 credits/month and 20 characters.
Pict.AI has Android and iOS apps as well as web access, with two free web uses per tool per IP address.

Verdict

Cartoonize AI is a strong fit for creators and teams that need a varied photo-effects library, recognizable-image transformations and a choice of recurring or non-expiring credits. Its main advantages are breadth of styles and workload flexibility; look elsewhere if you need text-to-cartoon generation, free commercial rights or unreviewed API access.
