Overview

Xodo Sign covers document preparation, signature collection, and workflow tracking. Signers can use computers, tablets, or phones, while iOS and Android apps support mobile work. Its built-in editor can redact, annotate, reorder, and edit PDFs, giving teams a way to prepare documents within the signing workflow rather than treating signing as a standalone step.

Signed documents receive timestamped tracking of actions from start to finish. Xodo Sign lists AICPA SOC II, GDPR, eIDAS, and UETA; financial-services workflows include built-in encryption and full audit trails. These are relevant controls for teams that need documented activity, but do not alone establish fit for every regulated process.

Key features

Signing and templates: Signature order can be configured, and reusable templates support recurring requests. Free has no active templates; Personal permits one, Basic three, and API Light ten. That progression makes paid tiers materially more practical for repeat workflows.
Team access: Teams can invite members, assign roles, set permissions, and manage access. Basic and Professional include business-hours email support, which may help small teams that need assistance without an enterprise arrangement.
API workflows: The API supports embedded signing and requesting, automation, and webhooks. This suits builders integrating signature steps into an existing product or process; API plans also impose distinct document and user limits.
Integrations: Connections include Gmail, Chrome, Drive, Google Docs, Dropbox, Evernote, OneDrive, and Box, useful for teams already working across those services.

Pricing

Xodo Sign uses a freemium model, with a 7-day trial for Basic and Professional. Free signup requires no credit card. Paid plans include unlimited documents, but the Free and Personal plans have explicit sending caps.

Plan	Price	Limits and fit
Free	0.00 USD per free	One document per week, one signer, one seat, and no active templates; includes an API Sandbox with up to 2 production API documents. Best for occasional individual use or a small API evaluation, not regular sending.
Personal	3.00 USD per month, billed annually ($36/year)	12 documents per month, one active template, and one seat. It is the low-cost step up for a solo user with predictable, modest volume; the monthly cap rules it out for heavier use.
Basic	10.00 USD per month, billed yearly	Unlimited documents and up to three reusable templates. It suits individuals and small teams sending regularly, though the three-template ceiling may constrain varied recurring workflows.
Professional	16.00 USD per month, billed yearly	Unlimited documents, 10 bulk-sending credits, and 10 SMS credits based on selected seat count; includes PDF editing. It fits advanced signing needs, but the credit allotments matter for teams sending in bulk or authenticating by SMS.
Enterprise	Custom pricing	Tailored workflows, bulk document sending, additional seats, and a dedicated account manager make it the option for complex needs rather than a fixed-budget individual plan.

API buyers have separate options: API Sandbox is 0.00 USD per free and allows 2 production API documents. API Light is 50.00 USD per month, billed yearly, with 50 API documents per month, 10 templates, 20 SMS credits per user, and five users; it fits a modest production integration. API Business has custom pricing, with unlimited templates, volume users, custom branding, and tailored API solutions.

Platforms

Xodo Sign supports Android, iOS, and API access. Signing is also supported on computers, tablets, and phones, so teams can accommodate signers across device types.

Who it's for

Xodo Sign is a strong candidate for teams that want signatures, PDF editing, access controls, and audit trails in one service, or developers embedding signature requests through an API. Solo users with occasional needs can start free, while regular senders should weigh Personal's 12-document monthly limit against Basic's unlimited documents. It is less compelling for teams that need more than three Basic templates or high-volume API use without moving to a custom plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Timestamped audit trails and listed compliance standards give teams concrete workflow controls.
Pros: The editor handles redaction, annotation, reordering, and document edits before signing.
Pros: API support spans embedded signing, embedded requests, automation, and webhooks.
Cons: Free is limited to one document a week and has no active templates; Personal stops at 12 documents monthly.
Cons: Basic includes only three templates, while Professional's bulk and SMS credits are finite.
Cons: API Light costs 50.00 USD per month billed yearly and caps monthly API documents at 50; larger needs require custom pricing.

Alternatives

Consider Sign.Plus if its free tier's three signature requests total and one template better match a very small initial workload. BoldSign offers a free Essential tier with 25 envelopes per month, two templates, and one user, a different fit for users who want a defined monthly allowance at no cost. DigiSigner is an alternative with a PRO plan at 15.00 USD per month when paid annually, including unlimited documents, one sender, multiple signers, templates, branding, and signing links.

Documenso may suit teams prioritizing a self-hosted option and an open-source product. Dropbox Sign is another freemium choice, with a free tier of three signature requests per month. eSignly offers a lifetime-free plan with five signing requests per month. Signority API is worth comparing for teams considering an API-focused alternative. sproof sign is another option for electronic signing.

Browse the E-Signature Software directory for more signing tools, or the Digital Signature API Software directory for API-focused choices.

Verdict

Choose Xodo Sign if your team needs tracked signing with PDF editing, access controls, and an API that can embed requests into existing workflows. The clearest reason to look elsewhere is plan fit: modest tiers cap documents or templates, and higher-volume API needs move to custom pricing.
