Overview

FleetCam is a commercial-fleet camera and driver-safety system that combines AI event detection, video, coaching and vehicle data. It suits operators that need configurable camera coverage tied to fleet workflows; its device-based video storage and custom pricing make retention and cost important deployment decisions.

FTS connects video events with GPS tracking, dispatch and reports in its IntelliHub dashboard. The system is aimed at varied commercial operations, including school buses, tow trucks, landscaping, waste management, street sweepers, emergency services and government fleets.

Key features

Video coverage and event detection

Managers can stream from up to five cameras on a vehicle at once, then review historical footage and download clips remotely. Configurations can use up to eight cameras for a 360-degree vehicle view, including waterproof IP67-rated outside cameras. That breadth is useful for vehicles with varied blind spots, though live viewing is capped at five cameras at a time.

AI detection covers drowsiness, distraction, cell phone use, seatbelt violations, smoking, harsh driving, lane departure and tailgating. Risk scoring, video evidence and compliance tools extend the system beyond recording: teams can use events to identify behavior for follow-up and coaching.

Storage, privacy and coaching

Video stays on the device, with event clips uploaded when triggered. Managers can request other footage only while it remains on the device, so retention depends on onboard storage configuration. Fleets should align that configuration with how long they need to retrieve non-event video.

The optional privacy module lets drivers switch off the driver-facing camera during breaks; some configurations can detect certain driver events without recording driver-facing video. Drivers can review and dispute event clips. DriveShield also lets them acknowledge events in a phone app or web portal, with training courses and supervisor intervention available. These controls support a coaching workflow while giving fleets options for balancing monitoring with driver privacy.

Vehicle data and integration

FleetCam Pro connects through OBD-II or JBUS for data including RPM, speed, fuel level, odometer and engine codes. In IntelliHub, video events sit alongside GPS tracking, dispatch and reports. FTS also provides a guide to linking devices to vehicles through its FleetCam for Geotab add-in.

The REST API can retrieve event footage, play live or historical streams and download video, but customers must request API access from FTS Support. That makes the API useful for teams planning workflow integrations, with access requiring an additional step. Initial camera calibration uses the Titan app for Android or iOS.

Pricing

FleetCam is paid, with custom pricing based on fleet size, deployed products and contract terms; most fleets are priced per vehicle per month. The FleetCam plan has custom pricing, and FTS offers a demo for a proposal. This structure can accommodate different deployments, but teams cannot compare a published per-vehicle rate before requesting one.

Because storage is onboard and retention depends on configuration, the proposal should account for the footage retention the fleet needs. Installation can be handled by a fleet's own team, while FTS can coordinate professional installation.

Platforms

FleetCam supports Android, iOS, web and API. The Titan mobile app is used for camera calibration, while DriveShield's phone app and web portal give drivers ways to review and acknowledge events. FTS lists 24/7 USA-based support at support@ftsgps.com and 1-866-221-1864. The company announced it successfully completed a SOC 2 audit in June 2024.

Who it's for

FleetCam is a strong fit for commercial operators that want camera evidence, driver coaching and vehicle diagnostics connected to fleet operations. Its range of camera configurations and vehicle-data collection can serve mixed vehicle types, while privacy controls are relevant for fleets that need drivers to be able to pause the inward-facing camera during breaks. It is less suitable for buyers who need predictable published pricing or retention independent of onboard storage.

Pros and cons

Pro: Up to eight cameras, with waterproof IP67-rated outside options, supports broad vehicle coverage; live streaming is limited to five cameras at once.
Pro: Detection spans multiple driver risks, and DriveShield provides event review, acknowledgement and coaching paths.
Pro: OBD-II or JBUS connections can add vehicle diagnostics such as speed, fuel level and engine codes to safety video.
Con: Non-event footage is retrievable only while it remains on the device, making retention dependent on onboard storage configuration.
Con: Pricing is custom rather than published, and API access must be requested from FTS Support.

Alternatives

For a wider comparison, browse Fleet Safety Software or Fleet Dash Camera Software.

GoFleexo Driver Safety is a paid alternative with Android, iOS, API, web and self-hosted platforms; its custom enterprise solution maps modules, integrations, deployment architecture and rollout sequence to the fleet.
Lytx Fleet Safety is paid, offers a free trial and prices by request; consider it if a trial matters in vendor evaluation.
Azuga has no free plan and offers BasicFleet for 25.00 USD per month, billed per vehicle per month, with tracking, driver scores and rewards, reports, geofencing and two-minute location updates. Choose it when those published tracking capabilities are the priority.
CameraMatics is a paid, quote-based fleet platform described as best suited to fleets of 10+ vehicles.
Geotab is a paid option whose GO Plan includes advanced safety and AI scoring, HOS/ELD and tachograph compliance, predictive maintenance and fuel monitoring; consider it when those capabilities are central.
Radius Driver Safety Software is paid, with pricing affected by fleet size, vehicle type, contract length, features and installation method.
5Keys Engage is a paid Android, iOS and web option; contact Smith System for details.
Powerfleet VisionAI is available for light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, with single- or dual-lens camera configurations, for fleets of all sizes.

Verdict

Choose FleetCam if your commercial fleet needs configurable video coverage, event-based safety coaching and vehicle diagnostics brought into fleet operations. Its main advantage is the combination of camera, driver and vehicle data; look elsewhere if you need a published price or video retention that does not depend on onboard storage.
