Overview

Zil Money combines check production with vendor and payroll payment workflows for small and midsize businesses. It suits teams that want printed checks and electronic payment methods in one service. Its broad workflow mix is useful, but transaction-based costs and dependence on partner institutions merit careful review.

The service supports MICR printing on blank check stock, payroll checks, check customization, and direct check imports from accounting software. Zil Money is a financial technology company, not a bank; banking and money movement are provided through partner institutions and licensed providers.

Key features

Checks and payments

Businesses can create and print checks using a printer and blank stock, including payroll checks with employee details, payments, and deductions. Logos, colors, and text can be used to customize checks. These capabilities make it a fit for teams with recurring check workflows, though check production alone does not establish that it replaces a broader payroll system.

The mobile app supports ACH transfers, RTP, wire transfers, printed checks, and eChecks. Users can review and release vendor payments and payroll runs by phone, which gives teams a way to manage those workflows away from a desktop.

Integrations and safeguards

Direct accounting imports and integrations with QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Gusto, Zapier, Xero, Salesforce, Slack, and other services can connect check and payment work to existing business software. The trust page describes encryption, secure data centers, multifactor authentication, continuous monitoring, and regular security assessments. Zil Money says it has completed SOC 2 Type I and Type II examinations and is PCI DSS compliant.

Pricing

Zil Money describes its pricing as volume-based, with customized plans and discounts for high volume. Its support article says there is no monthly subscription fee, but the listed plans include a monthly Premium price; teams should confirm which pricing arrangement applies to their intended workflow and volume.

Free: 0.00 USD per free, billed monthly, with limited monthly transactions. This gives smaller-volume users a no-cost starting point, but the transaction cap may not suit regular business payment activity. A 15-day trial is also offered.
Business: Custom pricing with unlimited transactions. This may suit businesses whose volume exceeds the Free plan, but they should obtain a quote before comparing costs.
Enterprise: Custom pricing, with enterprise API access, white-label options, a dedicated account manager, custom integrations, SLA guarantees, and volume-based pricing. It is aimed at organizations needing platform-level integration or service commitments.
Pay as You Go: 30.00 USD per once, described as a $30.00 initial recharge. It allows 3 bank accounts and 3 users; international payments and positive pay use volume/custom pricing. The fixed recharge and small account and seat allowances make this more constrained than the unlimited-account enterprise option.
Premium: 499.99 USD per month, with 500 free credits every month and a 0.19% transaction fee, minimum $0.10, charged only after free credits. This is the clearest listed monthly option for teams able to use the included credits, but the fee applies once they are exhausted.
Enterprise Custom: Custom volume/custom pricing, with unlimited bank accounts and users; transaction pricing and check mailing are volume/custom pricing. It fits larger operations that need higher account and seat capacity, but costs depend on negotiated terms.

Platforms

Zil Money is available on Android, iOS, web, and API. Its delivery model is web, alongside mobile app workflows. That combination supports phone-based payment review and release while retaining a web-based service for broader use.

Who it's for

Zil Money is a sensible shortlist option for small and midsize businesses that print checks, run payroll payment workflows, or want to combine check handling with electronic methods and accounting integrations. Teams should look closely at transaction volume, plan terms, and the partner institutions involved. It is not a bank.

Pros and cons

Pro: Check printing, payroll checks, customization, and accounting imports cover several stages of check workflows in one service.
Pro: Mobile review and release of vendor payments and payroll runs, plus multiple electronic payment methods, extend workflows beyond printed checks.
Pro: Integrations with accounting, payroll, automation, and collaboration services can help it fit an existing software stack.
Con: The Free plan has limited monthly transactions, while volume-based and custom pricing can make costs harder to estimate without a quote.
Con: Pay as You Go allows only 3 bank accounts and 3 users, a meaningful constraint for growing teams.
Con: Banking and money movement depend on partner institutions and licensed providers rather than Zil Money being a bank.

Alternatives

Check Printing Software is a broader category directory for comparing check-printing options.

Choose SimpleChecks if a 14.99 USD per month Starter plan with the first 50 checks included, then 50¢ per printed or emailed check, and a single user and bank account better matches a focused check-printing need.

Checkeeper is another option to compare for check workflows.

Choose CHECKPRINT if its free plan's one bank account, unlimited checks, printable PDFs with a watermark, and 30-day check storage better fit a low-cost printing workflow.

ChequePro is another option to compare for check workflows.

Choose SimpleChex if a web-based free plan capped at 10 checks per month for one business and one user is enough for a small operation.

ezCheckPrinting is another option to compare for check workflows.

PrintBoss is another option to compare for check workflows.

VersaCheck is another option to compare for check workflows.

Verdict

Choose Zil Money if your business needs check printing alongside payroll and vendor payment workflows, multiple payment methods, and links to existing business software. Its main advantage is that breadth; its main reasons to look elsewhere are transaction-cost uncertainty, restrictive low-tier limits, and reliance on partner institutions for banking and money movement.
