Overview

Chroma is an adult coloring app for people who want more than a fixed set of fill-in pages: it pairs a broad library with freeform tools, shared coloring, and ways to make artwork from photos. It is best suited to casual colorists who value variety and creative options across mobile and web; the main caveat is that several paid purchases have no stated duration or defined contents.

Key features

The library includes thousands of pages across mandalas, nature-inspired artwork, and inspirational quotes. That range gives colorists room to change subjects without leaving the app. Digital brushes, textures, palettes, and freeform coloring offer more control than a simple tap-to-fill format, and importing personal images lets users work beyond the built-in library.

Buddy Coloring lets friends and family work on the same artwork, making Chroma a better fit for shared creative time than a strictly solo coloring app. AI page generation and photo conversion into coloring pages or pixel art add ways to start with an idea or image of your own. These tools broaden the app's appeal, though users focused only on coloring ready-made pages may not need them.

Finished work can be shared to Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram. The iPad app supports Apple Pencil, while Chroma's website describes portfolio pages for colorists. The combination suits users who want to color on a tablet and share work, although the web offering described is for portfolios rather than a stated full coloring workspace.

Pricing

Chroma is free to download, with in-app purchases. The purchase menu mixes one-time payments with subscriptions, but the named Premium purchases do not state their duration or included content, so buyers cannot tell from the purchase names what they unlock.

Chroma Monthly 30: 6.99 USD per month.
Chroma 3.0 Monthly: 9.99 USD per month.
Chroma Yearly 30: 34.99 USD per year.
Chroma 3.0 Yearly: 49.99 USD per year.

The free plan is the sensible starting point for occasional use. The monthly and yearly options suit users willing to pay on a recurring basis, but the different names and price points do not explain the distinction between the two subscription lines. The cheaper one-time purchases may suit someone seeking a single purchase, but without duration or contents they are difficult to compare with the subscriptions. The App Store also describes the app as free with in-app purchases.

Platforms

Chroma is available on Android, iOS, and web. The App Store listing supports iPhone and iPad, including Apple Pencil support on iPad. Its website describes web pages for sharing colorist portfolios, not a web coloring editor. Sprite Labs is the developer and seller; its App Store privacy disclosure says contact information, identifiers, and usage data may be collected without being linked to identity. Apple says that disclosure is developer-provided and unverified. App support is reached through the in-app bug feedback button.

Who it's for

It is particularly well matched to households or friends who will use Buddy Coloring, and to iPad users who prefer Apple Pencil. It is less compelling for buyers who need clearly defined paid entitlements before subscribing, or for people looking for a web-based coloring editor.

Pros and cons

Pro: Thousands of pages across several themes provide substantial choice for colorists who like variety.
Pro: Freeform tools, image import, and photo-to-art features support personal projects beyond the included pages.
Pro: Buddy Coloring enables shared work, while social sharing and Apple Pencil support serve users who want to create together or present finished art.
Con: Several one-time purchases do not state duration or included content, making it hard to judge what the price buys.
Con: Subscription names and prices offer no stated distinction in entitlements, complicating a choice between monthly and yearly lines.
Con: The stated web use is portfolio sharing, so users seeking browser-based coloring should not assume the mobile editor is available online.

Alternatives

Coloring Apps is a useful starting point for comparing the category. Consider Colorfy if Android and iOS coverage is enough and you prefer a free app with ads and in-app purchases; its Colorfy Subscription is 7.99 USD per once, with no billing period specified. Coloring Book: Color by Number is worth considering if Windows support matters alongside Android and iOS. InColor is another freemium option with a free trial and Android, iOS, and macOS support. Lake may fit iOS-only users who want a monthly plan described as including all art, colours, and tools. Pixel Color is an option for Android and iOS users seeking pixel coloring; its Weekly Pixel Pro plan is described as unlocking all content and features. Pixel Paint is free and runs on Android, iOS, and web. PixelZen is an iOS option whose free plan includes core coloring, books, and daily challenges. Color Tap is a free alternative for iOS and macOS.

Verdict

Chroma is a strong choice for colorists who want a broad page library, freeform tools, collaborative coloring, and photo-based creation in one app. Its breadth is the reason to choose it over a simpler coloring book; the unclear contents of several purchases are the reason to pause before paying. Start with the free plan, and look elsewhere if you need transparent paid tiers or a clearly established browser coloring workspace.
