Overview

ClassMarker combines quiz creation with instant grading, live results, and analytics. Tests can be public or private, scheduled for specific dates, and configured with time limits, media, feedback, surveys, and custom certificates. A 400-response limit is important to factor into the fit, especially for larger cohorts.

Key features

Assessment design and scoring

Question formats include multiple choice, multiple response, true/false, matching, essay, free text, and grammar. Question banks can be organized and reused, with random selection when a test begins. Points-based grading, pass marks, partial scoring, and manual essay grading allow different assessment styles, though essays still require human review.

Results and delivery

Analytics cover scores, percentages, question and category statistics, answer breakdowns, cohort comparisons, group and member averages, and CSV exports. Tests can be distributed through groups, direct or email links, website links, embeds, API, and webhooks. That range helps teams fit assessments into different workflows; the API and real-time webhooks also support integration work. Partner integrations include Zapier, Greenhouse, and FreshWorks.

Proctoring, security, and support

ClassMarker Monitor runs in a browser without software installation and supports full-screen enforcement, tab-switch detection, browser monitoring, mouse boundaries, and identity verification. Camera monitoring costs 10 credits per attempt; other tests or surveys cost one credit per attempt, so camera-proctored volume can consume credits quickly. ClassMarker says it encrypts data in transit and at rest, uses role-based access controls, conducts regular audits and penetration testing, and complies with GDPR, CCPA, and New York Education requirements. Customer data is hosted in a US-Central data center. The company says support staff in Australia and Canada and the platform are available around the clock.

Pricing

ClassMarker has a free plan and a 30-day trial. Paid plans use custom pricing, so teams should confirm cost against their expected response and proctoring volume before committing.

Professional 1: Monthly billing, up to 400 credits per month, AI exam proctoring, custom certificates, and all features. Yearly billing offers two months free. This lower-credit tier suits teams with modest recurring assessment volume.
Professional 2: Monthly billing, up to 1,000 credits per month, AI exam proctoring, custom certificates, and all features. Yearly billing offers two months free. It provides more recurring capacity for heavier use, but still requires planning around credit-based proctoring.
Enterprise: Custom plan for larger needs, with contact-based pricing. It is the stated option for organizations whose requirements exceed the Professional tiers.
Credit packs: 50, 250, 1,000, 2,500, and 5,000 credits, each valid for 12 months and available for top-ups. Packs include AI exam proctoring and custom certificates; they offer a way to add capacity without choosing a larger monthly allowance.

The free plan's response cap is 400. The plans also differ in how capacity is supplied: Professional tiers allocate monthly credits, while packs expire after 12 months. The one-credit standard attempt and 10-credit camera-monitored attempt make that distinction consequential for proctored programs.

Platforms

ClassMarker supports web, Android, and iOS, with API access for integrations and publishing workflows.

Who it's for

Educators, trainers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations running online assessments are its intended audience. It is a stronger fit where teams value question reuse, analytics, multiple delivery routes, and browser-based monitoring. The response cap and credit accounting make it less straightforward for programs expecting high volumes of camera-monitored attempts.

Pros and cons

Pro: Reusable, categorized question banks and random selection make it practical to build multiple variations from a shared pool.
Pro: Detailed cohort and question analytics, CSV exports, and several publishing channels give teams options for reviewing and distributing assessments.
Pro: Browser-based proctoring avoids requiring a software installation, while offering identity verification and monitoring controls.
Con: Camera monitoring uses 10 credits per attempt, versus one for other tests or surveys, which can constrain proctored volume.
Con: The 400-response limit and custom pricing mean buyers need to check capacity and cost against their actual scale.
Con: Manual essay grading remains necessary for essay responses, so instant scoring does not remove that workload.

Alternatives

FlexiQuiz is another freemium option; its free tier allows 20 responses per month and per quiz, unlimited quizzes, and 10 questions per quiz.

SpeedExam offers a free tier with 25 exam attempts monthly, 2,000 questions, and 100 MB of storage.

TestGorilla is an alternative with a free plan that provides 10 credits monthly, five essential skills tests, and one full-access seat.

TestInvite may suit buyers who prefer annual testing-credit packages; its Starter plan costs 900.00 USD per year and includes 500 credits, 250 questions, five tests, and one teammate.

Verdict

ClassMarker is a sound choice for educators and organizations that need flexible online assessments, useful analytics, and browser-based proctoring in one system. Its reusable question banks and multiple publishing routes are the main reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if predictable public pricing or high-volume camera monitoring is central: custom-priced plans and a ten-credit camera attempt make those decisions harder to budget.
