Overview

Comodo Internet Security is a Windows suite that brings antivirus, firewall, host intrusion prevention and isolation for unknown files into one product. It suits Windows users who want those layers without paying for core security; its fit depends on running a supported version of Windows.

Key features

Auto Sandbox runs unknown files in an isolated environment, limiting their ability to damage the computer. That is useful when users handle unfamiliar downloads, while manual remediation means the suite does not automate every cleanup decision.

The packet-filtering firewall can block unauthorized inbound and outbound connections, control which programs reach the internet and stealth ports. Those controls add useful network oversight for users willing to manage program access. Cloud scanning, behavior analysis and whitelisting complement antivirus protection.

Secure Shopping isolates a browser session and includes keylogger prevention, screen-capture blocking and SSL certificate inspection. It can also run applications such as email clients, spreadsheets, password managers and VPN clients in isolation, which may help protect sensitive sessions beyond shopping.

Malicious Website Filtering blocks dangerous sites and supports custom block lists for family members. The product also supports offline scans, threat quarantine and bootable rescue media. Technical questions can go to Comodo Support, with an online help guide and user forum as additional support routes.

Pricing

The Comodo Internet Security Premium plan is free and includes core security features for a Windows PC. It is the clearest fit for individual Windows users who want the main security controls without a subscription.

The Premium plan is described as including antivirus, firewall, security features and updates, but has no published price. CIS Pro is $29.99 USD per year for one device, billed $29.99 for 12 months; the three-device option is $39.99 USD per year, billed $39.99 for 12 months. Both include GeekBuddy expert support and a virus-free guarantee covering repair costs up to $500 if Comodo support cannot restore an infected PC. The three-device tier suits small households or teams sharing coverage across three devices; the single-device tier is for one Windows PC.

A separate Pro plan is $39.99 USD per year, billed annually, and lists the same support benefits. Complete is $89.99 USD per year, billed annually, adding 50GB online storage and 10GB per month of TrustConnect. Those additions make Complete relevant to users who need the bundled storage or monthly TrustConnect quota; otherwise, the lower-priced Pro options focus on support and security.

Platforms

Comodo Internet Security supports Windows. The guide lists Windows 10, 8 and 7, and versions 12.0.0.6882 and later do not support Windows XP or Vista. For Windows 10, the stated minimums include 384 MB available RAM, 210 MB of disk space, an SSE2-capable CPU and Internet Explorer 5.1 or later. Teams still running XP or Vista should not choose this suite.

Who it's for

This is a reasonable fit for Windows users who want firewall controls, automatic isolation and web filtering alongside antivirus, especially if the free edition covers their needs. It is less suitable for organizations seeking broader platform coverage or users on XP or Vista. Comodo was established in 1998 and is headquartered in Bloomfield, New Jersey.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free Windows edition includes core security features, making the firewall and sandbox available without a paid plan.
Pro: Secure Shopping combines session isolation with keylogger prevention, screen-capture blocking and certificate inspection.
Pro: The firewall offers inbound and outbound controls plus per-program internet access management.
Con: Support for current listed releases excludes XP and Vista, limiting its use on older systems.
Con: Remediation automation is manual, so users may need to handle cleanup decisions themselves.
Con: Windows-only support makes it a poor choice for mixed-platform fleets.

Alternatives

For one-time Windows malware scans rather than a full security suite, consider Dr.Web CureIt!, which has a free one-time scanning option. Dr.Web LiveDisk is a free recovery option for Windows systems using DVD or USB media.

For a free Windows anti-spyware toolkit with scanning, removal, rootkit scanning, system immunization and startup tools, Spybot – Search & Destroy is a more focused alternative. Malwarebytes Premium is an alternative with platforms spanning Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.

For Android-only protection, ESET Mobile Security for Android offers a free lifetime tier with basic features and a premium tier. For a self-hosted or web property, MalCare targets site security; its free plan includes weekly scans, vulnerability alerts, a basic firewall and login protection, but not malware removal.

For a different firewall option, see Advanced Policy Firewall. For remote assistance, Microsoft Quick Assist is a free alternative.

Verdict

Choose Comodo Internet Security if you want a free Windows suite with firewall management, sandboxing and web filtering in addition to antivirus. Its breadth on the free tier is the main reason to choose it; look elsewhere if you need non-Windows coverage, XP or Vista support, or more automated remediation.
