Overview

Terminal49 brings shipment tracking, document handling, and workflow tools into one platform. Coverage spans ocean, rail, and road, drawing on carrier, terminal, vessel/AIS, and intermodal rail data; tracking updates are described as hourly. That gives operations teams a consolidated view, while the hourly cadence may not suit workflows that depend on continuously refreshed location data.

The API exposes standardized JSON shipment milestones, including vessel events, container moves, holds, fees, and Last Free Day information. Webhooks deliver status changes, which can help teams feed logistics events into existing systems without relying solely on manual checks. Documents can be classified automatically and linked to containers, reducing the need to reconcile files separately.

Key features

Tracking and milestones: Visibility across carriers, terminals, vessels/AIS, and intermodal rail covers multiple handoffs. Milestone data includes operational and cost-related events, with ETA predictions and exception alerts also supported.
Documents and workflows: Automatic classification and container linking connect shipment paperwork to tracking records. Automated workflows and custom reports are included with Complete, rather than the lower-cost entry point.
API and integrations: Webhooks, standardized JSON, developer documentation, and code samples support integration work. Named data connections include Snowflake, BigQuery, SQL Server, Google Sheets, Excel, NetSuite, SAP, Descartes, CargoWise, Power BI, and Azure.
Security: Terminal49 states that data transfers are encrypted and that it is SOC 2 compliant.

Pricing

Terminal49 uses a freemium model. Free is 0.00 USD per free, billed Free forever, and allows up to 10 active containers and 3 users. It includes shipment tracking and details, basic notifications, and 50 document credits. That makes it a practical starting point for a small team, but the container ceiling can quickly rule it out for routine, higher-volume operations.

Lite uses an annual contract with custom pricing by request. It adds unlimited users, full shipment and container dashboards, planning and performance reporting, and document processing with 50 credits included; additional credits can be purchased. It is the more relevant step up for teams that need broader dashboards and reporting but do not require the advanced package of workflows and service commitments.

Complete is custom pricing by demo on an annual contract. It adds predictive ETAs, port congestion insights, automated workflows, custom reports, advanced integration add-ons, a dedicated customer success manager, a shared Slack channel, and SLA-backed uptime and data guarantees. Those support and reliability commitments are most relevant to teams that depend on the platform operationally, though the demo-based sales process offers no stated price for budget comparison.

Essential is also custom pricing by demo, with either an annual contract or pay-as-you-go terms. It includes API access and webhooks, intermodal rail tracking, container assignments and team collaboration, and document-processing credits. The API page offers a 7-day free trial with full API access to build and test an integration; this is distinct from the product's 14-day trial pricing note. Teams evaluating an API fit should confirm which trial terms apply to their intended plan.

Platforms

Terminal49 is available on web and through its API. The API and webhooks suit teams connecting shipment events to internal tools; no mobile platform is identified among its supported platforms.

Who it's for

The stated audience includes cargo owners, importers, exporters, freight forwarders, customs brokers, 3PLs, and logistics technology companies. It is a strong fit where container milestones and documents need to feed existing systems, especially for teams that can make use of API events or named integrations. Smaller users can start free, but teams tracking more than 10 active containers or needing more than 3 users must consider a paid plan.

Pros and cons

Pro: Tracking, shipment documents, milestones, alerts, and API delivery sit in one platform, reducing the need to join these functions across separate tools.
Pro: Webhooks and standardized JSON provide a clear route for incorporating shipment changes into software workflows.
Pro: The free plan has no charge and includes tracking, basic notifications, and 50 document credits, making initial adoption possible without an immediate contract.
Con: Free is capped at 10 active containers and 3 users, limiting its usefulness once a team or shipment volume grows.
Con: Paid plans require an annual contract or demo/request-based custom pricing, except Essential's pay-as-you-go option; buyers cannot compare a stated paid price upfront.
Con: Tracking updates are described as hourly, a constraint for teams that need more frequent location updates.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, compare Transportation Visibility Software and Container Tracking Software.

GoComet is another paid option with a free plan and Android, API, and web platforms; consider it if Android access matters.
ShipsGo offers a free plan and trial, plus a pay-as-you-track option at 1000.00 USD per once for 500 credits, valid for 1 year, with one credit per new shipment tracking. That stated purchase gives buyers a defined credit package instead of Terminal49's custom-priced paid plans.
Flexport Control Tower is a paid API and web alternative.
Tive Platform is a paid option with a free trial and Android, iOS, API, and web platforms; consider it if mobile availability is important.
Descartes Customs and Regulatory Compliance is a paid API and web option without a free plan.
Gnosis Freight is a paid API and web alternative without a free plan.
Shipup is a paid API, extension, and web alternative without a free plan; its Essential plan starts at 299.00 EUR per month with a one-year commitment.
VIZION is a paid API and web alternative without a free plan.

Verdict

Choose Terminal49 if your team needs container milestones, documents, and API-based event delivery in the same logistics workflow, and its hourly tracking cadence fits your operation. The free tier offers a useful low-commitment starting point, while Complete adds deeper automation and service guarantees. Look elsewhere if you need a stated paid price before engaging sales, exceed the free caps without a custom-plan budget, or require more frequent tracking updates.
